Dear Families, Spring is on the horizon and it s the end of another busy half term at Sheringdale. The PTA quiz night was a roaring success, greatly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Thanks to everyone who supported this fun event and particular thanks to the parents who worked so hard to organise the quiz.

There are several ongoing projects to improve the environment at the school. Tony is developing the gardens along with Gordon who regularly comes in to work on the outdoor area.

We are also awaiting some final works tied to the building project it is planned for the fence in the back playground to have panels fitted, the canopy will be replaced and, once the weather warms

1 Dear Families, Spring is on the horizon and it s the end of another busy half term at Sheringdale. The PTA quiz night was a roaring success, greatly enjoyed by everyone who attended. It included some unforgettable moments particularly the enthusiastic dancing in the lip synch round! Thanks to everyone who supported this fun event and particular thanks to the parents who worked so hard to organise the quiz. Your generous donations are being banked for the planned playground project which will greatly improve the outdoor provision at the school. There are several ongoing projects to improve the environment at the school. Tony is developing the gardens along with Gordon who regularly comes in to work on the outdoor area. Many thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help with this. We are also awaiting some final works tied to the building project it is planned for the fence in the back playground to have panels fitted, the canopy will be replaced and, once the weather warms up, new lines will be painted on the playground. In addition, the school is funding the re-decoration of the two old stairwells to be completed during half term. As ever there is always a lot going on at school and two of the most memorable events from this half term have been the Young Voices performance by the choir at the O2 and the Indoor Cricket Competition at the Oval where Sheringdale made the final. Well done to the children who took part and thanks to Mr Hill, Miss Fennell and Mrs Bellak for organising. Have a lovely half term. All items left over the holidays will go to the local charity shop. Please ensure that all your children s clothes are named so they can be returned to them if they go missing. Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers are back and they re a great way to get loads of fabulous free equipment for school. Every year we collect as many as possible so we can exchange them for playground toys and games, PE Equipment and even cooking utensils. They are vital in helping us renew stock sand provide items we otherwise couldn t afford. As always we rely on your support (and any friendly neighbours and relatives!) to collect vouchers every time you shop at Sainsbury s. Please note that Sainsbury's Locals give out double the vouchers per pound spent than the big Sainsbury's and don t forget to ask as they don t always offer. Then simply drop them off in the collection box outside the office. The window for giving out vouchers is from now until 2nd May so please remember to choose Sainsbury s when possible! The Choir sang beautifully at the Young Voices concert on 19 th January. Huge thanks to Miss Fennell and Miss Coathup for organising the trip.

On a chilly January morning, eight intrepid Year 6 children, accompanied by Mr Hill set off for the Oval cricket ground to compete in the snappily named Maurice Fulcher Indoor Cricket Competition!

Our first match was against Dulwich Hamlet, all kitted out in whites and looking professional. The Sheringdale team was feeling nervous and uncharacteristically lacking in confidence.

Luckily we managed to dig in over the next few overs and score some runs but we kept giving away catches which made it impossible to post a decent score.

When Dulwich came in to bat we were determined to put things right and everyone bowled very accurately with barely a wide or no-ball all innings.

Lessons were quickly learned and the team galvanised during the next few matches which were all very tight. The children had found their form and won them by 3, 2 and 6 runs respectively.

Alas, it wasn t to be but we left feeling rightly proud of our efforts and just a little annoyed that we were caught a little cold in the first match.

Well done Sheringdale who played well in a great local football tournament against St Michaels, Swaffield and Riversdale.

Southfields Football Tournament We had a very enthusiastic bunch of year 4 and year 5 children ready to play a group of friendlies against Riversdale, St Michaels and Swaffield on 8th December.

) They threatened to overrun us at times but some fantastic rear-guard action from our overstretched defence and a couple of excellent saves from Ehsan in goal kept us in the game.

It had been a few weeks since they d held either bat or ball. The first pair went out and the lack of match practice told; four wickets down in the first two overs, we were minus 20 runs already! Luckily we managed to dig in over the next few overs and score some runs but we kept giving away catches which made it impossible to post a decent score. We ended up on +7 but would have been 42 if we hadn t lost so many wickets. When Dulwich came in to bat we were determined to put things right and everyone bowled very accurately with barely a wide or no-ball all innings. However, with such a low total to defend, we were not able to keep their score down and they just beat us by seven runs. The Netball team also played in their first tournament this week at Burntwood School. In our first match against Riversdale we started cautiously as our players got used to their positions and the size of the pitch (about 4 times the size of our playground!) They threatened to overrun us at times but some fantastic rear-guard action from our overstretched defence and a couple of excellent saves from Ehsan in goal kept us in the game. When we finally managed to break out, the ball was kicked up the pitch. Ayaan chased it, just beat their goalkeeper to the ball and tucked it away for a goal. Celebrations were short-lived however as Riversdale came back and scored and equaliser from a rather dubious penalty. Next up, our old rivals St Michaels. We created a few scrambled chances but nothing clear cut and the match ended in stalemate, 0 all. In the last match we were determined to set it right and poor Swaffield were on the receiving end. Two by Dylan and an amazing hatrick by Aiza meant we ran out 5-0 winners. We ended the day unbeaten and conceded only one goal well done Eshan. The teamwork was outstanding and the three boys from Year 4 played brilliantly and were very strong additions to the team. 4 Change over from ParentMail to SIMs Agora and InTouch At the end of February we are moving from ParentMail to SIMs Agora for epayments and to SIMs InTouch for communications. These products will complement the software package the school already uses for our pupil records. Please can you ensure that any outstanding monies due on the children s accounts are paid up-to-date before the end of the month, including visits, Lighthouse club, breakfast club and dinner monies. Year 1 Art Club Mrs Trsic is very proud of the self-portraits drawn by the children in her Art Club Hand Washing Talk Year 1 Year 1 had a Hand Washing workshop with the Wandsworth Nursing Team. They were able to see all the germs on their hands and shown how to wash them properly: 1. Wet your hands with water (warm or cold). 2. Apply one squirt of soap to cover your hands. 3. Rub hands palm to palm. 4. Rub the back of your left hand with your right palm with interlaced fingers. Repeat with the other hand. 5. Rub your palms together with fingers interlaced. 6. Rub the backs of your fingers against your palms with fingers interlocked. 7. Clasp your left thumb with your right hand and rub in rotation. Repeat with your left hand and right thumb. 8. Rub the tips of your fingers in the other palm in a circular motion, going backwards and forwards. Repeat with the other hand. 9. Rinse hands with water (warm or cold). 10. Dry thoroughly, ideally with a disposable towel. 11. Use the disposable towel to turn off the tap.

5 PTA Quiz Night The Quiz Night raised over 1,000 for the school which is fantastic. Many thanks to the organisers (Jo, Louise and Lisa), and to everyone who attended. Congratulations to the aptly named winners Wine O clock! Year 5 Biscuit Sale The Year 5 Enterprise raised which will help fund their visit to London Zoo later this term. Well done everyone!
