Entry Deadline All entries must be pstmarked by May 10th, Please make sure that all requested infrmatin is cmpleted and the rules fr exhibiting are understd. Incmplete frms will nt be accepted. Send cmpleted frm alng with yur entry fee t: AJRBA Natinal Shw Entry, 3995 East Hwy. 290, Dripping Springs, TX Late entries will be accepted at check-in with a $35 entry fee per head plus an additinal $35 per head late fee. (Late entries must fllw all wnership dates and rules.) Refunds will nt be made after the entry deadline. Make checks payable t the AJRBA. Ownership Requirements Heifers and bulls must be in the wnership f the junir exhibitr name by May 10, Eligibility Exhibitr must be a registered member, in gd standing (all fees paid in full) f the American Red Brangus Assciatin and be eight (8) years t (21) twenty-ne years f age as f May 10, Exhibitr must be an active member f 4-H r FFA. Lcatins The shw will be held at the Brazs Cunty Exp Center lcated at 5827 Lenard Rd, Bryan, TX The Awards Banquet and will be held n Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Brazs Cunty Exp Center. Ldging The htel headquarters fr this year's junir shw are still being finalized. Ntificatin f the htel infrmatin will be psted n the website as sn as it is available. The Bryan/Cllege Statin area has many htels and mtels available in prices in many different ranges that are available in additin t the shw headquarters. The Brazs Cunty Exp has 78 RV spaces available fr rent. Rental fee is $30.00 per day per RV. The Exp Center will issue camper passes and cllect all fees. Spaces are available n a first cme, first serve basis. RV sites have electricity and water hkups. Please cntact the Exp at (979) if yu have any questins r want t make a reservatin. Fundraising Requirements **New Infrmatin** IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT: Due t rising csts t put n the Natinal Shw and Awards Banquet, all Junir Exhibitrs are required t participate in tw fundraising activities. Activity One - Dnatin/Spnsrship: Every exhibitr is required t secure at least ne, $100 spnsrship/dnatin. If the exhibitr fails t turn in (at check-in) a spnsrship/dnatin, they will be charged $100 that must be paid upn check-in. 2

3 Examples f ways that exhibitrs may fulfill this fundraising requirement: Spnsr f $250 fr t-shirts Prgram Advertisements f $100 r mre Mnetary dnatins f $100 Live Auctin item valued abve $ Activity Tw - Silent Auctin: Every exhibitr is required t bring at least ne suitable item fr this auctin. If n item is submitted a charge f $25 must be paid upn check-in. This $25 will be used t purchase an item fr the silent auctin. Every exhibitr wh brings a suitable Silent Auctin item will be entered in a drawing fr $50. The drawing will be held at the Awards Banquet. It is the exhibitr s respnsibility t turn in apprpriate frms t receive credit fr fundraising participatin. Activity One Spnsrship / Dnatins Frms must be turned in upn check-in. Activity Tw Silent Auctin Frms must be hand delivered with the auctin item(s). Arrival Cattle will be allwed in the barn beginning at nn n Wednesday, June 5, All junir cattle must be in place by 1:00 p.m. n Thursday, June 6, Liability All entries will be under the cntrl and directin f the Junir Cmmittee. The American Red Brangus Assciatin will nt be respnsible fr the lss, injury r damage dne t, r ccasined by, r arising frm any animal r article exhibited by the junir. The exhibitr shall indemnify the abve assciatin against all legal r ther prceeding in regard theret, as well as damage r injury t any ther persn r prperty, caused by the exhibitr r any f the animals exhibited. Health and Registratin Papers Health papers and registratin papers will be required n ALL cattle. A health certificate issued within 30 days f June 5, 2019 is required. Bulls 18 mnths r ver must have a valid, satisfactry semen test within 120 days f shw date. Females 24 mnths r ver must be safe in calf determined by a licensed veterinarian and stated n health certificate available fr inspectin r have a calf at side and be lactating with the exceptin f thse in an embry dnr prgram which may be pen within 90 days f shw date, after 90 days they must be bred. A Veterinarian s certificate f embry wrk must be presented. Yu must have riginal registratin papers t the shw. Health papers will be checked by a representative f the Junir Cmmittee. Cattle will be inspected and registratin papers checked n Thursday, June 6 th, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Release f Animals Entries will be released at the cnclusin f the AJRBA Junir Natinal Shw n June 8, All cattle must be ut f the barn by Sunday June 9th by nn. Theme The Junir Bard f Directrs has chsen Blast frm the Past hnring Mike Levi, as this year s shw theme. Chse yur favrite decade frm the past (1930s, 1940s, 1950s, etc.) and use it t decrate yur stall and chse yur cstume fr the Cstume Cntest. 3

4 Shwmanship Cmpetitin includes fur divisins: Peewee (7 and under) Senirs (17-21) The shwmanship entry fee is $15.00 Winners f each divisin will be annunced at the cmpletin f the cntest. Shwmanship cmpetitin is pen t nly thse individuals that are entered in the AJRBA Natinal Shw. Animals shwn in shwmanship cmpetitin MUST be entered and shwn in the AJRBA Natinal Shw. An animal shwn in the shwmanship class must be entered and shwn in the regular class f the Natinal Shw. Shwmanship classes will be divided by age f individual as f JUNE 5, It is recmmended that all exhibitrs participating in the shwmanship classes shw heifers, if pssible. The shwing f bulls is nt recmmended but bulls MUST walk in at the beginning f the cntest. Dress Cde: Cntestants are required t wear apprpriate shw ring attire jeans, Natinal Shw shirt, which must be tucked in, and dark shes r bts. N baseball caps, n white n shes will be allwed. (Exhibitr dress will be checked at the gate prir t entering the shw arena.) Shw Chairman reserves the right t split shwmanship classes int heats based n the size f the shw arena. PeeWee Shwmanship Cntest Pee Wee Shwmanship is fr seven (7) years f age and under. Pee Wee exhibitrs d nt have t be AJRBA members and d nt have t have entries in the AJRBA Natinal Shw. There is NO CHARGE fr Pee Wee exhibitrs. Pee Wee Shwmanship will take place between the AJRBA Heifer and Bull Shw. Public Speaking The Public Speaking Cntest is an pprtunity fr members t have their speaking ability evaluated and t be part f a larger grup f AJRBA members striving t develp better presentatin skills. Presentatins at cntests assist members in develping life-lng skills. Thse skills include fstering psitive self- cncept, learning decisin making and respnsibility fr chices, develping an inquiring mind, relating t self and thers, and the ability t cmmunicate yur thughts and/r technical infrmatin t thers. The results f the cntest give members a measuring tl t help make imprvements in future presentatins. Eligibility: T be eligible, exhibitrs must be members f the American Junir Red Brangus Assciatin. The public speaking cntest will cnsist f the fllwing age divisins: Senirs (17-21) Cntest Rules Subject Matter: Each cntestant is t select their wn tpic, which is t pertain t the Red Brangus breed and/r the beef industry. Cntestants will be evaluated n cntent, presentatin, creativity and questins. Visual aids are limited t physical charts, etc. N slides, verheads r any ther electrical aids will be allwed. Time Limits: Length f Speech: Junir Divisin: 2-4 minutes 4

5 Intermediate & Senir Divisin: 3-5 minutes Cntest Scring/Judging N parent/guardian/relative f an AJRBA exhibitr shall be invlved in the executin, scring, and/r judging f any event during the Natinal Junir Shw. Judging: Speaker will be judged based n the fllwing: Delivery f Speech (60 pints) Subject Matter (15 pints) Appearance and Pise (15 pints) Respnse t Questins (10 pints) Time Scring: Pint deductins f 1 pint fr each 10 secnd interval ver r under the target length will be made n bth the prepared speeches and Senir Divisin imprmptu speeches. Herdsman Award The Gd Herdsman Cntest prmtes pride and enthusiasm fr an individual s entries. The tp individual exhibitr and the tp grup f exhibitrs (whether related t each ther r unrelated) will each be given an award at the awards banquet fr the display that receives the highest scre. Judging/Scring Aisle and Bedding 30% (cleanliness, general appearance) Animals 30% (cleaned, grmed, general appearance) Equipment 20% (well arranged, rganizatin, attractive) Exhibitr(s) tending t cattle 20% (neat, knwledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic) Herdsman will be judged between the hurs f 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Stall Award This award was created fr thse creative junirs wh place emphasis n yur stall area. The award ges t the best verall stall presentatin. It will be judged n creativity, riginality, and style. Newcmer f the Year Award This award is annually given ut t a first year, junir member wh is relatively new t the breed. This individual has made big strides thrughut the year. This exhibitr is ne that has finished strng. The award is based upn the junir member s verall shw ring presence. The recipient is ne wh will be fund at varied shw events taking parts f all facets. Individual Sales Talk Cmpetitin This cmpetitin will give the cntestants an pprtunity t utilize an actual livestck sale setting cmplete with heifer r bull and a ptential buyer. Eligibility: Cntestants must be a junir member f the American Red Brangus Assciatin. Cntest Prcedures: The cntestant will decide whether he r she wuld like t sell a heifer r a bull (they can use their wn animal r brrw ne.) The cntestant will speak at least tw minutes abut the animal with cmments directed t the ptential buyers. The presentatin time is limited t a ttal f six minutes. The cntestant may hld r tie the animal r have anther junir member hld the animal during the talk. Cmpetitin Judging: 5

6 Knwledge f the animal the individual is selling. Breed facts, general knwledge f the industry. Cmmand f the facts and figures. Ability t relate the infrmatin. Organizatin and style f presentatin. Length f time utilized. Pise skill in presentatin, general appearance, delivery manners, and curtesy. Overall effectiveness. Hw cnvinced were yu, the buyer, t purchase the animal? Ability t crrectly answer questins. Bred and Owned Bull and Heifer Shw A champin will be picked in bth the bull and heifer divisins. The rules are as fllws: Dam f animal entered must have been in the exhibitrs name at the time f cnceptin. Must be exhibited in an individual class NOT AT SIDE OF DAM. Must be submitted with regular entries, will nt be accepted the day f the shw. AJRBA Bard f Directrs Electins *** New Infrmatin*** Electins f the AJRBA Bard f Directrs ccur at the business meeting Friday, June 7th at 10:00 am. Any member interested in becming an fficer is REQUIRED t cmplete the enclsed Officer Bi Applicatin and return with entries. Vtes will be tallied, and the new fficers will be annunced at the meeting. The psitins are as fllws: President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Bard f Directrs -3 psitins Cstume Cntest The cstume cntest is pen t all AJRBA members in gd standing. The calf must be wned by the individual shwing r the immediate family f the individual. Scring will be based n creativity and riginality f the heifer s cstumes. Livestck Judging The cmpetitin will cnsist f three age divisins: Senir (17-21) Adult (19 and ver nn-ajrba member). Cntestants will evaluate classes f livestck and will designate their placing n prvided judging cards. A cmmittee designated by the ARBA will prvide fficial results that cntestants will be scred against. Cntestants will be placed as individuals and thse scres will cunt tward the exhibitr award. All cntestants are expected t act hnestly, nt talk r share infrmatin, and fllw instructins f fficials. Shw fficials can disqualify cntestants if they are caught cheating in any way 6

7 Quiz Bwl Cntest Subject Matter: The Quiz Bwl will stimulate yur knwledge in varius tpics such as Red Brangus Histry, Red Brangus Standards f Excellence, Animal Science, Ag Mechanics, Gegraphy, Science, Music, Cartns, Daily Husehld Tpics, Mvies, Dmestic Events and Internatinal Tpics. This is a team cmpetitin where all junirs are encuraged t interact with ther members and jin frces t tackle the challenging questins presented. Rules: The Quiz Bwl will be pen t all AJRBA junirs, adults and guest. Each team will be required t have three members and each team must be cmprised f at least tw AJRBA junirs and ne adult. N team can have mre than tw family members. Each team can select the members f their team. If a team is shrt f cntestants, the cmmittee will assist in finding the remaining cntestants fr the cmpetitin. The cntest will be a turnament style bracket that will randmly be put tgether by the cmmittee. Each team will assign a captain that will draw a number which will crrespnd t the psitin each team will be placed in the bracket. We encurage that each junir t establish their team prir t the shw. The frmat and rules may be mdified t at the time f the cntest t fit the number f teams entered. The Quiz Bwl will have ne mderatr, ne time/scre keeper and ne judge. The judge will be the final decisin maker fr all results. Methd f Quiz Bwl Cmpetitin Rund One Cnsist f eighteen questins. Each individual team member is asked three questins, fr a ttal f nine questins per team. Questins presented in rtatin t the teams and the cntestants within the teams. Answers must be stated within 10 secnds f the questin s reading. Answers will be true/false, multiple chice, fill in the blank r shrt answer. Teams can cnsult ne anther prir t the answer being given. Crrect answers are wrth 10 pints, with n deductin fr incrrect answers. If n answer is given r if the answer is incrrect, the mderatr will read the crrect answer. Rund Tw Wrksheet Three Minute Rund Each team will be given tw cpies (face dwn) f the same twenty questin wrksheet. Each team will answer the questins at the same time. Each answer is wrth ten pints. The captain will write the team name n the back f each sheet. When the timer says begin the teams will have three minutes t write dwn their answers t all twenty questins. The timer will annunce when ne minute remains and then when thirty secnds are left. When the timer calls time, the teams must stp writing immediately and the captain will turn in ONE cpy f the wrksheet which the mderatr will scre and then annunce the ttal pints f each team. The mderatr will nt read the answers alud. In scring, spelling des nt cunt against a team, but the mderatr must be sure that the spelling is clse enugh t the crrect answer. Teams cannt ask fr help utside the team itself. After the cmpletin f the secnd rund the pint ttals will be annunced. The teams with the lwest scres will be eliminated. 7

8 Rund Three Rapid Fire Rund Teams with the highest pints will face each ther in ascending rder. Each pair f teams will have a cin tss. The team that wins the cin tss will get the first ten questins. Each questin is wrth 10 pints if answered crrectly. Each team will be given sixty secnds t answer all ten questins. The time clck will begin after the mderatr cmpletes the first questin. Cnsultatin is permitted within the team and all answers must be given by the team captain r designate. The captain r designate may respnd befre cmpletin f the questin. Once the clck has started, the mderatr will give a team an indefinite perid f time t answer each questin until the sixty secnds has expired. If the team cannt answer the questin, they can say PASS and the mderatr will read the next questin. Passing the questin will nt cunt against the team. Once the team passed n a questin, it can return t that questin at any time by indicating t the mderatr the number f the questin and then giving the answer. They may als return t the questin if time remains n the clck. The mderatr will indicate if the answer is crrect r incrrect at the end f each respnse. After time has expired the ppsing team will be given their ten questins with a sixty-secndtime limit. The scre frm this rund will be added t the existing runds ttals. Each team will be playing against the sixty secnd clck nt the ppsing team. After the cmpletin f the third rund the tp tw, three, r fur teams (actual number will be determined based n number f teams) will mve n t the furth and final rund. Rund Fur Terminatin Rund Each team member will be asked bnus questins starting with the captain and cntinued n rtatin. Each bnus questin will be wrth ten pints. Fr every questin answered crrectly anther bnus questin will be asked until all ten questins are answered, r an incrrect answer is given, r the questin is nt answered. If a team is given bnus questin and there is an incrrect answer, r n answer is prvided there will be a penalty f ten pints deducted frm the teams ttal scre. After each team has been read all ten questins r teams have missed questins there will be a pints tally prvided. The team with the highest number f pints will be declared the winner. In the result f a tie between tw teams, each team will be given a bnus questin that will be wrth fifteen pints if answered crrectly. Each team must prvide an answer in the event f a tie. If the questin is answered incrrectly a deductin f ten pints will ccur. Phtgraphy Cntest ***New Infrmatin*** The phtgraphy cntest allws AJRBA members t becme familiar with the art f phtgraphy and t experiment with different lighting, angles and subjects. The cntest was created t help AJRBA members increase their cmmunicatin skills thrugh the creative display f a message r feeling thrugh phtgraphy, and t prvide a fun and cmpetitive activity. Rules: Entries must be turned in at the Junir Shw at paper check in Thursday, June 6th, Yu must be an AJRBA member t enter the cntest. Each cntestant is limited t (2) entries. 8

9 American Red Brangus cattle must appear in each pht. Phts may be clr r black & white. Phts must be 5 by 7 prints. ***New Infrmatin*** Phtgraphs must be taken by the cntestant. Yu may nt enter a pht that has been entered in a previus junir shw pht cntest. Phtgraphs must have been taken within the last 12 mnths. Phts cannt be altered, r image enhanced in any way. Entrant s name and age as f June 5th, 2019, and categry must be typed r handwritten n the back f the phtgraph. N captins are allwed n the pht. Phtgraphs will be judged n the fllwing basis: Cmpsitin, Clarity and Sharpness f the pht and Creativity. Entries will be judged in three age divisins: Senirs (17-21) Skill-a-thn Cntest Explanatin f the cntest: The Skill-A-thn cntest is a written cntest in which everyne can participate. Questins will range frm general Red Brangus t general agriculture infrmatin. Cntestants will g frm statin t statin answering the questins n their answer frm. Questins may als pertain t the identificatin f agricultural implements/cattle tls. There will be different questin sets fr each f the three age divisins. These questin sets will vary in knwledge level and skills prficiency depending upn the age divisin and all three age divisins will be run simultaneusly. Winners will be selected in fur age divisins: Senir (17-21) Adult (19 and ver nn-ajrba member). Example items in skill-a-thn = Feed types, pictures f breeds f cattle, meat cuts, reprductive tract, calf puller, ear tag, etc. Outstanding Junir, Intermediate, & Senir Exhibitr Award This award recgnizes the individual wh has excelled in the varius events held thrughut the junir shw. It is calculated by: Highest placing animal Placing in all cntests (except herdsman and stall award) Participatin in all activities during the Natinal AJRBA shw Winners will be selected in three age divisins: Senir (17-21) The winner will be annunced at the Awards Banquet n Saturday, June 8, Class Breaks Classes will be determined using the Hustn Livestck Shw Class breakdwn. The AJRBA Junir Shw Cmmittee members reserve the right t break classes int smaller classes. This wuld be accmplished by 9

10 dividing the class as evenly as pssible withut splitting animals with the same birth date. Final class lineups will be psted n Thursday afternn. Cking Cntest: *** New Infrmatin *** Anyne wh enjys preparing beef recipes shuld enter this cntest. It is an excellent way t educate and entertain nn-participants, while prmting beef. Each team will cnsist f 1 (ne) participant. Cntest divisins are as fllws: Senir (17-21) Adult (19 and ver nn-ajrba member). ***New Infrmatin*** Participants must submit a typed cpy f the ck-ff recipe at time f check in.*** General cntest rules pertaining t all age divisins are as fllws: Participants must furnish all necessary ingredients (including meat) as well as cking tls (i.e. grill, utensils, plates, tables, extensin crds, etc.) Participants may use any gas grill, charcal grill, ven, taster ven, crck pt, etc., as lng as furnished by the participants nthing will be prvided fr the preparatin f any entry. All entries must use beef as the main ingredient in the recipes. The Ck-ff Cntest will be judged by the spectatrs f the shw. Participant shuld prepare enugh servings fr the crwd. All cntest participants shuld fllw prper fd safety prcedures during preparatin fr the dish. Herdsman Quiz: This cntest will test yur verall knwledge f the Red Brangus breed (bth histry and current events), animal husbandry and livestck characteristics. Participants will be divided int fur age divisins and age is as f June 5, Senir (17-21) Adult (19 and ver nn-ajrba member). The Herdsman Quiz is a written exam made up f true/false, matching, and multiple-chice questins. Participants wh answer the mst questins crrectly will win their divisin. Awards will be given t winners f each divisin. 10
