Rail: +6m Penetrometer: 4.89 STEWARDS: M F Van Gestel (Chairman), P C Dingwall, R W Livingstone, D L Carr and cadets C K McIntosh, M W Purse, F J Dale, T J Lee and R W Loughlin jl Supplementary Reports: GOSFORD Thursday 22 February 2018 Race 7: Functions TEG 3yo Maiden Plate 1000m Byzantium co-trainer Mr M Hawkes advised that he was satisfied with the post-race condition of the gelding and concurred with the views of the rider that he was obligated to do a lot of work from his wide barrier in a fast run race. He said the plan is to continue with the preparation of Byzantium, however indicated they may alter the tactics and have the gelding ridden more conservatively to see if it can finish off. CANTERBURY PARK Wednesday 21 February 2018 Race 1: Pluck@Vinery Handicap 1200m Bold Arial laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 3: #Theraces Handicap 1550m Tangmere the Club's Veterinary Officer reported that, whilst in the tie-up stalls prior to the race, the colt displaced a tooth, however was passed suitable to race. Race 7: Ranvet Handicap 12250m Dream I Can raced in restricted room rounding the home turn and made contact with the inside running rail. ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 17 February 2018 Race 4: ACJC Southern Cross Stakes (Group 3) 1200m Deploy trainer Mr G Ryan advised that scintigraphy results of the gelding conducted following its unplaced run in the abovementioned event revealed it to have bone bruising to its off-hind leg and bone chips in both front fetlocks. Mr Ryan advised that Deploy will have surgery to remove the bone chips and the gelding will subsequently spell and will not race during the autumn carnival. RACE 1: TAB Highway Handicap 1100m Golden Legacy slow to begin and then soon after the start made contact with Where's Pippa. A short distance later Golden Legacy was crowded for room when Camillo began

2 awkwardly and shifted in. abnormalities. 2 A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any Elle's Nel slow to begin. When questioned, App. M Weir stated that the filly, which was first up today, was inclined to overrace throughout the middle stages and for some distance near the 700m she restrained from the heels of She Knows. She said soon after straightening, when she commenced to place her mount under pressure, Elle's Nel ran in abruptly, resulting in her having to stop riding and change the whip through to her right hand. She added she was then held up on the heels of Where's Pippa for some distance near the 200m before securing clear running to that runner's inside at the 100m. App. Weir was cautioned against using the whip on her mounts forward of the shoulder. Where's Pippa slow to begin. Try A Lil Harder knuckled on jumping. Twelfth Raj near the 300m was inconvenienced when Elle's Nel ran in towards the gelding. Inside the 200m had to be steadied when Odds Or Evens shifted in in advance of that runner. For some distance near the 100m was held up on the heels of the weakening Camillo. Our Revenue raced wide and without cover throughout. Under pressure in the straight hung in and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. She Knows raced wide and without cover throughout. Camillo rider C Brown stated his mount was able to get across and race outside the lead comfortably in the early stages. He said soon after straightening Camillo came under pressure and weakened noticeably from that point. He said, as he felt something may have been amiss with the gelding, he did not fully test it in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had been galloped on to the off-hind and was slow to recover. Trainer Mr D Kelly was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Camillo racing again. Odds Or Evens when questioned regarding his riding in the straight, rider A Adkins stated that he attempted to obtain clear running to the inside of Camillo, however when that runner shifted in slightly near the 300m, he was disappointed for this run. He said, after being held up on the heels of Camillo for some distance, he then shifted to that runner's outside near the 200m, but at the same time Camillo then shifted out in advance of him, which resulted in him having to be continually held up on the heels of Camillo for some distance. He added that near the 150m he was able to obtain a narrow run to the inside of Camillo, whereby his mount finished off reasonably well. Dangerous Breeding when questioned regarding the mare leading today, rider A Hyeronimus advised his instructions were to ride his mount forward and he was able to lead on the rail. Trainer Mr D Kelley confirmed the instructions and advised they were similar to those issued to M Heagney at Wagga Wagga when the gelding raced on 9 February He said on that occasion Dangerous Breeding was ridden hard in order to comply with instructions, but was unable to cross in the early stages and raced wide throughout the event.

3 3 RACE 2: #Slipperstyle Handicap 1500m Nettoyer the mare, which slipped over when being unloaded from the float on arrival on course and suffered multiple abrasions to both hocks and was found to be 1/5 lame in the offhind leg, was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.14pm. Trainer Ms W Roche was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Nettoyer racing again. Bring Luck slow to begin (3L). Had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m. Over the final 150m raced in restricted room between Tangled and Oklahoma Girl. Oklahoma Girl slow to begin. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Tangled began a little awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Alward, which began only fairly. Show A Star near the 70m was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of Blake Shinn (Cellarman). A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Nat King Cu over the final two strides raced tight to the inside of Pelethronius. Alward App. L Magorrian stated that, after being held up on the heels of Show A Star, he attempted to take a run between Tangled and Show A Star where there was not quite sufficient room. He said near the 200m he had to check his mount when disappointed for this run and then shifted back to the inside of Show A Star. He added, as he attempted to take a run between Show A Star and Pelethronius, he again had to check his mount when disappointed for this run when Nat King Cu shifted out, taking Pelethronius out towards Alward. Alward was then shifted back to the outside of Show A Star inside the 100m to find clear running. App. Magorrian was cautioned against the practice of placing his mounts too close to the heels of runners in front where there is a potential to strike heels and interfere with other runners. RACE 3: TAB Silver Slipper Stakes (Group 2) 1100m Knievel - slow to begin. Gongs began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with Neutrality. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Neutrality rider B Shinn advised that when caught wide in the early stages he elected to cross Sunlight and race outside the leader Estijaab rather than cover additional ground. He said, whilst his mount initially responded to his riding in the straight, he was somewhat disappointed with its finishing effort, particularly in circumstances where it was unable to hold off third placegetter Gongs. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 4: Spark Of Life Handicap 1100m Shudabeen acting on veterinary advice that the filly was unfit to start after trainer Mr T Martin reported that an abscess had burst under its jaw this morning, Shudabeen was a late withdrawal at 11.10am. Mr Martin was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again.

4 4 I Am Excited slow to begin. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Teaspoon knuckled on jumping. Rider H Bowman stated advised he had intended to lead on the filly, but it did not show the necessary speed to do so. He said Teaspoon was immediately under pressure on straightening and he could offer no other excuse for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Quinton advised Teaspoon would now be retired. Workdrinks from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Acqume approaching the 300m was taken out slightly when Teaspoon shifted out. Marsupial had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 300m. Trekking in the early part of the straight laid out under pressure, resulting in rider G Schofield having to stop riding briefly near the 200m. Pendeloque raced wide and without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised that a bar plate had been placed on the filly following its last start at Randwick on 13 January 2018 when it was galloped on behind. He said Pendeloque had worked well in the bar plate, but having regard to today's performance would now be spelled. Mr Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of a satisfactory ECG, prior to Pendeloque barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. RACE 5: Vinery Stud Millie Fox Stakes (Group 2) 1300m Insensata slow to begin. Heavens Above slow to begin. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight and in particular the vigour he used between the 400m and 150m, A Hyeronimus stated, after following Prompt Response in the early and middle stages, when the tempo increased from the 600m his mount came under pressure and he was obliged to urge his mount along to maintain its position behind Prompt Response. He said on straightening he elected to allow Heavens Above to balance up and gain momentum by urging it forward without placing it under full pressure. He added near the 200m he elected to pull the whip from his left hand to his right hand, as he was more proficient with the whip in his right hand, which resulted in him then applying full pressure to Heavens Above at the 150m, whereby it finished the race off strongly. Stewards advised A Hyeronimus that he should have shown more endeavour and urgency in the early part of the straight to demonstrate that he is doing his utmost to ensure his mounts finish in the best possible place in the field. Perfect Rhyme from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Egyptian Symbol rider J Collett stated that the mare travelled well in the run and he expected it to finish the race off strongly on the bit. He said, after improving to the outside of Foxplay, his mount found it difficult to make up ground and the only excuse he could offer was that the mare found it difficult to finish off having regard to the fast final 600m of the event. A

5 5 post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare abraded both hind bumpers. Trainer Mr B Baker was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Egyptian Symbol racing again. RACE 6: Parramatta Advertiser Cup (Listed) 1900m Stewards acceded to applications from B Avdulla (Carzoff), C Brown (Lord Kingsley) and T Clark (Imperial Aviator) to ride their mounts ½ kilogram overweight. Lord Kingsley the gelding was late to the mounting enclosure due to issues in properly identifying it. Near the 1000m shifted in away from Liapari and brushed the running rail. Supply And Demand a pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding passed it fit to start. Liapari shifted in at the start, resulting in Lord Kingsley, which had been slow to begin, being hampered when crowded. Auvray began a little awkwardly and then from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Carzoff from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Making the home turn was awkwardly placed to the inside of Imperial Aviator. Imperial Aviator near the 200m altered course back to the inside of Testashadow to continue into clear running. Testashadow raced wide and without cover throughout. More Energy when questioned regarding the gelding racing more forward, rider J Taylor stated she had anticipated taking up a midfield position, but after commencing well from a favourable barrier, she was able to settle closer than anticipated. Singing rider G Schofield advised that he intended to take up a forward position and if the lead was available to control the tempo. He said when Supply And Demand and Get On The Grange both showed intent to take up the lead and he was of the view the pace was reasonably quick in the early stages, he elected to follow those runners. He added from the 600m Singing came under pressure and failed to respond to his riding from that point, before weakening noticeably in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr K Lees stated that Singing had pleased the stable since winning the Gosford Cup on 18 January 2018 and had had no issues whilst in the stable. He said the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that the horse did not appreciate racing behind other horses and it may not have raced genuinely because of this. Mr Lees was advised a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of a satisfactory ECG, prior to Singing barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. RACE 7: Chandon S Chic Easy Hobartville Stakes (Group 2) 1400m Assimilate began awkwardly. Pierata made contact with Trapeze Artist at the start.

6 6 Trapeze Artist made contact with Pierata at the start. Capital Gain after beginning only fairly, from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Siege Of Quebec rider B Avdulla advised that the intention was to be forward and endeavour to lead if possible. He said when Trapeze Artist and Kementari showed superior speed on jumping he rode his mount vigorously, however Siege Of Quebec failed to show sufficient speed to cross the early leaders and as a consequence was caught three wide and without cover for the majority of the event. He added that from the 600m, after initially responding to his riding making the home turn and in the early part of the straight, it commenced to give ground over the final 200m. B Avdulla further stated that in his view the colt would be better suited by stepping up in distance where it is able to dictate terms. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Lord Cecil a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on to the near-hind leg and was transported to Randwick Equine Centre for treatment. The post-race condition of Lord Cecil will be followed up with trainer Mr P Messara. RACE 8: Schweppes Handicap 1100m Selita Stewards acceded to an application from B Avdulla to ride the mare ½ kilogram overweight. Fickle Folly began awkwardly and made contact with Perizada. Royal Tudor from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the straight and over the final 100m proved difficult to ride out. Ziggy Willie from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. On the home turn was steadied away from the heels of Hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. After improving to the inside of Straturbo soon after the start, leaving the 1000m had to be steadied when Straturbo continued to shift in. Held up for clear running for some distance near the 200m before shifting to the outside of Perizada near the 150m to find clear running. Straturbo from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Perizada shortly after the start brushed with My Favorite. My Favorite shortly after the start brushed with Perizada. New Universe rider H Bowman stated with blinkers on today the gelding raced keenly in the early stages and had to be steadied from the heels of My Favorite on the first turn. He said he was briefly held up on the back of that runner in the early part of the straight, before being able to commence to test the gelding near the 300m. He added when placed under pressure New

7 7 Universe responded only fairly before not being able to be tested over the final 50m when My Favorite shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Memes when questioned, rider App. R King stated that here instructions were similar to previous starts in that she was to endeavour to take up a forward position. She said Memes is a mare that usually shows natural early speed without having to be ridden along, but today did not show its customary early pace. She added that, although caught wide in the early stages, she was unable to continue to go forward to cross My Favorite and Fickle Folly and as a consequence raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. App. King further stated that Memes never really travelled on the bridle with her at any stage and gave ground under pressure in the straight. Kudero a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in front. Trainer Mr C Conners was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again. RACE 9: Triple M Marquee Handicap 1350m Up 'N' Rolling - Stewards considered an objection lodged by B Shinn, rider of 2 nd placegetter Up 'N' Rolling against Lofty's Menu being declared the winner, alleging interference from the 450m to the winning post. After considering all the evidence, Stewards found that making the home turn Lofty's Menu shifted out slightly in what Stewards considered to be an acceptable racing manoeuvre and there was no evidence of contact occurring between both runners during the relevant period. Stewards also found that in the early part of the straight Up 'N' Rolling had an inclination to shift in, however did not establish contact was made between both runners until inside the 200m. Stewards found that over the final 200m Lofty's Menu was inclined to lay out and near the 75m made slight contact with Up 'N' Rolling, taking that runner out slightly. In dismissing the objection, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the shift of Lofty's Menu near the 200m and the slight contact at the 75m not occurred that Up 'N' Rolling would have finished in advance of Lofty's Menu. When questioned, rider B Shinn stated his instructions were to be in a midfield position. He said, after he commenced well and he was caught wide, he elected to go forward when the pace in his opinion was only moderate in the early stages. More To Gain slow to begin (2L). Denpurr began awkwardly. Dagny began awkwardly. Etymology after beginning awkwardly, from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Roaring To Win from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Wild 'N' Famous raced keenly in the early part of the straight and refused to settle. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the off-foreleg. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Wild 'N' Famous racing again.

8 8 Pioneering rider App. L Magorrian was fined $400 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. GENERAL: Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii).
