3 2013 NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS COME ONE, COME ALL!: Indianapolis concluded 2013 with the highest overall regular-season attendance of all 160 Minor League Baseball Clubs, welcoming a total of 637,579 fans (8,980 per game) through the turnstiles... The Tribe s home attendance was the fourth-largest in Victory Field history and the best single-season total since the team s championship campaign in Victory Field also saw a record-setting eight sellouts on the season, which surpassed the previous high mark of six capacity crowds in In addition, the Indians hosted 25 crowds of 10,000 or more patrons and averaged 10,000+ fans per game since the beginning of May (55 games), 10,500+ since the start of June (43 games) and 11,000+ in each of the last 24 home contests dating back to July 4. PLAYOFFS!? PLAYOFFS!?: Along with leading all of the Minors in regular-season attendance, the Indians also boasted Victory Field s largest playoff crowd of 11,327 fans on Sept. 6 against Durham... The single-game record-setting crowd was larger than all other International League team s combined home attendance for the postseason, with the Tribe outdrawing Pawtucket through the Red Sox s three combined games (9,518), Rochester through two combined games (8,587) and Durham through two combined games (7,357). BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS: On Aug. 24, the Indianapolis Indians clinched the IL West Division for the second straight season... The historical night marked the first time in team history the Tribe won back-to-back IL division titles (since re-joining the IL in 1998) and its first consecutive division crowns since Manager Marc Bombard led the Indians to back-to-back American Association East Division championships during the seasons... Indianapolis has also now won back-to-back regular-season division crowns for just the fourth time in franchise history, joining the three-peat titles, titles as a Montreal affiliate and titles during Cincinnati affiliation. AN 80 s PARTY: The Tribe notched its 80th and final win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over Louisville on Aug. 30, before ultimately finishing the season at The victory gave Indianapolis its first consecutive 80-plus win seasons since the championship squads, and marked just the third back-to-back 80+ win seasons since HAIL TO THE CHIEF: The International League honored the Indians standout campaign by voting team Vice President and General Manager Cal Burleson as the 2013 IL Executive of the Year... The accolade marked Burleson s second Executive of the Year honors after he previously won the award with the Tribe in With Burleson at the helm, Indianapolis has enjoyed an increase in its annual attendance over each of the previous four seasons. I M THE DEAN: In his third season at the helm of the Indians, Manager Dean Treanor joined elite company by claiming his 200th career win with the Tribe following a 7-2 victory on May 28 vs. Pawtucket... Treanor is just the 14th manager in Indianapolis 100-plus-year history to amass 200 wins and his.566 career winning percentage is the third highest among Tribe skippers with 200 victories... Overall, Treanor owns a record and ranks 11th all-time among Indians managers in career wins. STRIKING NUMBERS: Just one year after setting the Victory Field Era (1996) single-season record for team strikeouts, the Indians again surpassed its previous total by striking out 1153 batters during the 2013 campaign, 30 more punchouts than the then record-setting mark from The Tribe s 1153 whiffs were the second most in the IL behind Durham, and Indianapolis staff featuring eight pitchers with 60 or more strikeouts ranked behind only Columbus (9) and Durham (12). STARTING STRONG: The Indians opened the season with one of the hottest tears in team history... Indianapolis went 20-7 in April to set a franchise record for most wins in that month, while also tying the Victory Field Era (1996) mark with a 9-1 record over its 10-game homestand from April The Tribe ultimately improved to 21-7 through its first 28 contests (21-8 through 29 games) to mark the team s best start in Club history since the 1959 squad began the season at THE FAB FOUR: On July 3 the IL announced that SS Josh Harrison, RHP Vic Black, LHP Kris Johnson and C Tony Sanchez had all been named to the 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada... The Tribe s four All-Star selections were the most of any team in the IL and the most for Indianapolis since The Indians position players earned their respective honors with Harrison leading all of the Minors with 20 extra-base hits in June, while Sanchez ranked second among league catchers with 22 doubles and a career-high nine homers... Representing the Tribe s pitching staff, Johnson entered the Midsummer classic with the IL s third-best ERA (2.89) while Black ranked tied for fourth among league hurlers with his 13 saves. TONY AWARDS: Tony Sanchez collected additional hardware during his stint in Indianapolis, and after taking home the IL s Top Star award with his game-winning three-run homer at the Midseason All-Star Game, the backstop was also tabbed as the Indians only selection to the IL s Postseason All-Star team... The selection was the first postseason honors of Sanchez s career, and marked just the third backstop in Indians history to be elected to the contest (Jason Larue, 1999 and Erik Kratz, 2009). THE HIT COLLECTOR: First baseman Matt Hague collected 153 base knocks in 142 regular-season games to concluded the 2013 season with the most hits in the International League... Hague, who also led the league with 165 hits in 2011, is now the first player to lead the IL in hits in two different seasons since Indianapolis became re-affiliated with the International League in He is also the first player to lead the IL in hits in multiple seasons since Mike Sharperson accomplished the feat in 1985 and 1986 with Syracuse SEASON IN REVIEW 3

4 2013 NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE RECORD...: Matt Hague s strong campaign also featured several record-setting performances for Indianapolis, including establishing new Victory Field Era (1996) single-season marks for games played and at-bats, as well as tying the record for doubles... The slugger appeared in 142 of Indianapolis 144 total games to surpassing his own previous record of 141 games in 2011, recorded 536 at-bats to break D.T. Cromer s mark of 535 in 1999, and knocked 37 doubles to tie his own previous record for two-baggers from Hague also fell just one walk shy of tying Keith Mitchell s 72 free passes record from the 1997 season. ACE OF [THE] KLUB: Indians left-hander Kris Johnson defined the role as the staff s ace by pacing the IL with a 2.39 ERA (36 ER in IP), while also ranking among league leaders in WHIP (4th, 1.17), BAA (5th,.234) and wins (T-7th, 10)... Johnson is the first Tribe hurler in franchise history to lead the IL in ERA and the team s first pitcher to lead its respective league in ERA since Chris Welsh in 1984 (3.01 ERA)... Johnson s 2.39 ERA on the season also ranks as the lowest of any Tribe arm since Ben Hendrickson (2.02) in OLIVER S TWIST: Southpaw Andy Oliver finished the 2013 season ranked first in the IL in both strikeouts (138) and walks (112)... Oliver s 138 punchouts were tied with Justin Wilson (2012) for the Victory Field Era (1996) single-season record, while his 112 free passes broke Carlos Chantres V.F. mark of 93 walks in The left-hander is the first Tribe pitcher to lead the league in strikeouts since Stewart Bolen fanned 177 in Oliver, who also paced the IL with a.220 batting average against, was tabbed as the Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 6-13 after he won each of his two starts while posting an 0.82 ERA with just one earned run in 11.0 innings of action. INDIANS PLAYER AWARDS: Matt Hague (Most Valuable Player), Vic Black (Henry Smock Relief Pitcher of the Year), Kris Johnson (Starting Pitcher of the Year), Andrew Lambo (Offensive Player of the Year) and Lucas May (Hustle Award) were all recognized for their season-long success at the Player Award Ceremony during the regular-season home finale on Aug. 31. M.V.-PEAT: Hague, who was also named the team s MVP in 2011, became just the fourth player in Indians history to win two MVP accolades since the award s inaugural year in The Tribe s captain joined infielder Larry Raines (1956, 1960), first baseman Dave Revering ( ) and most recently outfielder Dallas Williams (1983, 1987) as the only two-time Most Valuable Players throughout 70 years of the prestigious award... Hague started all but three of the Tribe s 144 contests this season, ranked tied for first in the IL in doubles (37) and sixth in OBP (.378), walks (71) and total bases (218). BACK IN BLACK: Prior to his trade to the NYM as the eventual PTBNL, Black ranked tied for fifth in the IL with 17 saves during his Triple-A debut season... He struck out 63 batters in 43.2 total innings of work with the Indians, and after allowing three runs in his debut, followed with a 1.99 ERA (10 ER in 45.1 IP) throughout the remainder of his stint in Indianapolis... Black was named to his second professional All-Star team earlier in the season and struck out one batter in a perfect 0.2 frames of action... He also made his MLB debut with the Pirates on July 25 at Washington, where he fanned Ian Desmond for the final out of the eighth inning. K.J. KOs The IL: Johnson finished the campaign at 10-4 and with the best ERA in the league (2.39) through 26 games (21 starts)... The staff ace made 11 straight quality starts from May 30 - Aug. 7, a stretch in which he led all of Triple-A baseball with a 1.32 ERA (12 ER in 81.2 IP)... The span led to both an IL All-Star selection and his first call to the big leagues, where Johnson spun 5.0 shutout innings of relief against Arizona on Aug. 18, before finally yielding two runs in the 16th frame. THE GREAT LAMBINO: Lambo belted an IL-best 17 homers with 13 doubles and a league-leading 37 RBI in his first 54 games with the Indians... Prior to his promotion and eventual MLB debut, he knocked 31 of 54 hits for extra bases, ranking second in the IL in that category and third in the IL with a.606 slugging percentage... In addition, Lambo also led the Minors with a combined 31 homers, ranked fourth with 92 RBI and tied for sixth with 58 extrabase hits between the Indians and Double-A Altoona during that same span... Lambo concluded the season with the most longballs (32) and RBI (99) of any Pirates farmhand. MAYsDAY: May served as the backup catcher throughout the first half of the season until being thrust into a starting role when Tony Sanchez was promoted to the Pirates... May s three homers on the year all paced key wins for the Tribe, including breaking a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth at Columbus on June 4, knocking the eventual game-winner on July 31 vs. Scranton and capping off a five-run ninth-inning comeback with a grand slam on Aug. 23 at Rochester Indians Award Winners Season Awards Player Stats MVP Matt Hague.285 BA,.378 OBP, 153 H, 67 R, 69 RBI, 8 HR Offensive Player Andrew Lambo.272, BA.589 SLG, 61 H, 32 R, 53 RBI, 18 HR Starting Pitcher Kris Johnson 10-4, 2.39 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, IP, 94 SO Relief Pitcher Vic Black 17/22 SV, 2.51 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 46.2 IP, 63 SO Hustle Award Lucas May 57 G (54 C, 1 DH, 2 PH),.226 BA, 42 H,.991 FPCT Monthly Awards Player Stats April Vic Black 11 G: 6/7 SV, 2.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 5.1 IP, 24 SO May Felix Pie 25 G:.356 BA, 31 H, 18 R, 19 RBI, 15/17 SB June Kris Johnson 7 G (4 GS): 2-1, 2/3 SV, 1.65 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, 32.2 IP July Stolmy Pimentel 6 GS: 2-2, 1.99 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 40.2 IP August Robert Andino 25 G:.302 BA, 29 H, 7 R, 8 2B, 9 RBI SEASON IN REVIEW
