Yesterday afternoon's starter, RHP Trevor Cahill, has now earned the win in each of his four starts at home this year, pitching to a 0.72 ERA (2 ER, 25.0 IP) among pitchers who have started at least nine games at Petco Park, Cahill's career 1.74 ERA (11 ER, 57.0 IP) is the best mark in all of baseball. C Hector Sanchez hit his second home run in as many days, and INF Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a homer, a triple and a season-high three RBI. GIANT SLAYER: The day after hitting his first career walk-off home run, C Hector Sanchez belted his second round-tripper in as many days for only the second time in his career (also: August 15-16, 2013) it was the first time in his career that he has hit home runs in back-to-back starts...of his five homers this season, four of them have come off a Giant or former Giant, including his pinch-hit home run on June 30 off his former teammate, LAD Sergio Romo...Sanchez is now a career.500 hitter (8-for-16) with four home runs and 11 RBI against his former team. ELIAS SAYS: With his homer yesterday, C Hector Sanchez joined HOU George Springer and WSH Bryce Harper as the only players this season to follow a walkoff homer with a home run in the first inning of his team s next game...he became the second Padre in franchise history to have accomplished the feat, joining Scott Hairston in IT'S BEEN AWHILE: Starter RHP Luis Perdomo has recorded a win in each of his last three starts, the longest such streak of his career...the only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts last season was LHP Christian Friedrich (May 27 to June 6)...the last Padre to record wins in four consecutive starts was RHP Jesse Hahn, during the 2014 season from June 14 to June 30. 2 #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP PERD, PERD, PERD...PERD IS THE WORD: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound tonight in search of his fourth consecutive win after starting the season winless in his first 10 starts. Today will be his 16th start of the season, seventh on the road, and his sixth career appearance (fourth start) against the Rockies. Has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 13 of his 15 starts and at least 6.0 innings in nine of those outings. Tossed 6.0 innings of two-hit ball in his start on 6/23 vs. DET, allowing no runs while striking out six and walking five...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start. TONIGHT S STARTER IT S BEEN A WHILE: Perdomo has recorded a win in each of his last three starts, the longest such streak of his career...he recorded wins in two consecutive starts twice last season (last: 8/21 vs. ARI and 8/28 at MIA). The only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts last season was LHP Christian Friedrich from May 27 to June 6. The last Padres pitcher to record wins in four consecutive starts was RHP Jesse Hahn during the 2014 season from June 14 to June 30. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed nine quality starts this year, the secondmost on the team behind Jhoulys Chacin s 11. Tossed four consecutive quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. WELL GROUNDED: Leads all MLB pitchers with a 67.1 ground ball percentage (minimum 83.0 innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (58.6) and Jhoulys Chacin (53.3) rank fifth and 12th, respectively. SUPPORT SYSTEM: His 43 total runs of support (runs scored while he is in the game) are the ninth-fewest among all MLB pitchers and the third-fewest among National League pitchers with at least 83.0 innings pitched...the Padres are 7-8 in his 15 starts this season.
