Richard has forced the most ground balls in the majors this season (342), and he is tied with teammate Luis Perdomo for the NL-lead in opponent GIDP (27). INF Wil Myers hit his 25th home run of the season last night, becoming the fifth player in Padres history with multiple seasons with 25-or-more home runs and 10-or-more stolen bases. This past homestand, Padres relievers posted a 1.56 ERA, the best mark in baseball in those 11 games...the 'pen combined for 44 strikeouts, and opponents hit only.174. TURNING THE TIDE: The Padres look to improve at Chase Field, having won one game on the road vs. Arizona this season...since 2016, Arizona s 12-4 (.750) home record against the Padres is tied for the best by any NL team vs. a division opponent, per STATS. RISPY BUSINESS: Though the Friars have posted only a.222 average opposite D-Backs' pitching in 2017, they have hit.305 (25-for-82) with two doubles, two homers and 27 RBI with RISP against Arizona. THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In their last 24 games (since August 13), Padres relievers have the best ERA in baseball, posting a 2.36 ERA (21 ER, 80.0 IP)... they have also held opposing bats to a.196 average and 0.98 WHIP, which are both the best marks in the majors in that time. SNAKE CHARMER: In five outings and 6.0 innings pitched against the D-Backs this season, southpaw reliever Jose Torres has held D-Backs bats to a.095 average (2- for-21) without an extra-base hit...he has not allowed a single run to score, and his 0.00 ERA is the best mark among all Padres pitchers opposite ARI (with at least 3.1 IP). GETTING THE BALL: RHP Jordan Lyles takes the mound tonight in his first start as a Padre on the road...lyles made his Padre debut in Game 2 of Saturday s doubleheader against vs. LAD...he tossed 4.1 innings of six-hit ball, allowing two runs and fanning three. Lyles also has a career.375 winning percentage (27-45), which is the lowest career percentage (minimum innings pitched) among active pitchers, per STATS. MIXED BAG: The Padres pitching staff has fanned 127 D-Backs this season, which are the second-most of any team the Friars have faced this season (struck out 169 Dodgers)...however, the Padres have allowed 20 homers opposite ARI, the second-most this season behind the Dodgers' 26. PLAY THE HAND YOU'RE DEALT: With 93 strikeouts, Brad Hand could become only the second reliever in Padres history to record back-to-back 100 strikeout seasons...the only other was Trevor Hoffman in PADRES ON DECK: C Marcus Greene Jr. hit a two-run, two-out walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth in Fort Wayne Thursday night to give the Single-A TinCaps a 6-4 win over Bowling Green and a two-game sweep of the best-of-three Midwest League playoff series...fort Wayne will host either West Michigan or Dayton in the first game of the Midwest League s best-of-three Eastern Division Championship Series Saturday night. 2B Dusty Coleman and PH Diego Goris each hit a two-run home run to lead Triple-A El Paso to a 7-2 victory at Reno, giving the Chihuahuas a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Pacific Coast League playoff series. The Double-A San Antonio bullpen held Midland scoreless over the last 3.2 innings as the Missions won 4-3 to even their best-of-five Texas League opening series at 1-1. 2 #27 - JORDAN LYLES - RHP TONIGHT S STARTER JORDAN S TURN: 26-year-old Jordan Lyles gets the ball tonight and makes his first road start as a Padre against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Made his Padre debut in Game 2 of last Saturday s doubleheader against the Dodgers...did not factor into the second game of the Padres sweep, a 7-2 victory, tossing 4.1 innings of six-hit ball allowing two runs and four walks while striking out three. Signed as a minor league free agent with the Padres on August 8 after being designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies on July 29...selected on September 1 to the Major League roster. Has made five starts for Triple-A El Paso, posting a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA (10 ER, 20.0 IP)...has worked at least 5.0 innings in each of his last three starts with a 2.87 ERA (5 ER, 15.2 IP) while limiting opposing hitters to a.214 average. WHILE WITH COLORADO: Acquired by the Rockies along with outfielder Brandon Barnes from Houston in exchange for outfielder Dexter Fowler and a player to be named later on December 3, deal completed on June 3, 2014 for cash considerations.
