JHOULYS TAKES CINCINNATI: Starter Jhoulys Chacin (JO-lease sha-seen) has a teamleading 13 quality starts this season, and he has tossed quality starts in nine of his last 11 outings since June 3, posting a 7-3 record, a 2.49 ERA (19 ER, 68.2 IP) with a 55-to-25 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a.205 opponent average in that time...his 2.49 ERA since June 3 ranks fifth-best in the Majors. CHACIN VS. ADLEMAN: Since July 1, tonight's starters have posted antipodean performances...jhoulys Chacin has owned a 5-0 record with a 2.02 ERA, four quality starts and a.189 opponent average in that time...in contrast, Tim Adleman has gone 0-5 with a 7.34 ERA, one quality start and a.306 opponent average (STATS). TIP YOUR CAPPS: Today, on his 27th birthday, the Padres recalled RHP Carter Capps from Triple-A El Paso...in a corresponding move, San Diego optioned LHP Buddy Baumann to the Chihuahuas...Capps' next appearance will be his Padres debut, and his last Major League appearance dates back to August 2, 2015 vs. San Diego, while pitching for the Miami Marlins. For Triple-A El Paso, Capps tossed scoreless outings in 15 of his last 17 appearances since June 9, converting both of his two save opportunities and posting a 0.92 ERA (2 ER, 19.2 IP) with 21 strikeouts against five walks...he has limited opposing hitters to a.145 (10-for-69) batting average in that time. CINCY: Dating back to the 2016 season, INF Yangervis Solarte has accrued a.423 average opposite the Reds (11-for-26) with a.464 on-base percentage, per STATS. RUNS GALORE: Per STATS, the Reds have had 39 innings this season in which they have allowed four-or-more runs, and the Padres have had 37 such innings, ranking as the most and second-most in the Majors this season...the Reds have had 17 games in which they have allowed 10-or-more runs, and the Padres have done so in 15 games...this also ranks as the most and second-most in the league. PADRES ON DECK: Lake Elsinore Storm's C Austin Allen earned July Player of the Month honors as he led the California League in hits (46), homers (10), RBI (32), total bases (85) and slugging (.691), while finishing second in runs (27), extra-base hits (18) and OPS (1.089)... Allen recorded 13 multi-hit games, a trio of four-hit games and his 32 RBI were the secondmost in professional baseball in July. Arizona League INF Esteury Ruiz also earned the Player of the Month accolade, having led the Arizona League in hits (32), extra-base hits (17), total bases (58) and triples (five)... he was in the top five in slugging (.624), runs (four) and doubles (10)...Ruiz was traded to the Padres from the Kansas City Royals on July 24, 2017 as part of a six-player trade. SS Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 19th homer and 1B Brad Zunica hit his 18th for Fort Wayne...Tatis 19 homers are third in the Padres organization behind Wil Myers 21 and Hunter Renfroe s 20 at the Major League level. 2 TONIGHT S STARTER #46 - JHOULYS CHACIN - RHP CHACIN S TURN: 29-year-old Jhoulys Chacin (pronunciation: JO-lease sha-seen) will take the mound tonight for his 23rd start of the season, 11th one the road, against the Cincinnati Reds. His 22 starts this season match his start total in 2016 while with the Braves and Angels...it ranks as tied for the third-most starts he has ever made in a season, behind only his 31 starts in both 2011 and 2013 with the Rockies.
