What an awesome group! Not too much to say this month! Please remember to get your reservations in for All Chapters East in September! There is still time to get them in! The discount is only until July 15th!! All Chapters East will be held at the Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg, PA. If you don t camp, that is OK; there are cabins at the campground and a few hotels only a short distance from the campground. A good time is Guaranteed to be had! (continued next page)

Like visit another Chapter, dinner, etc. We are always open to some suggestions.. We want to continue to strive to get the points we need this year! It also helps with the Chapter of the Year Award!! Please remember those that are ill in your prayers and also for those members that we have recently lost. Please let Rich and I know if you hear of anyone that is ill or down and out so we can send the information out to the Chapter. RICH & WENDY WIRT, ASSISTANT DIRECTORS COMMENTS Chapter K s first Lime Run, (that I know of), was on June 12 th. Which almost ended up in a wash out. The weather for the full week before hand was absolutely wet. As well as windy. This made laying out the ride route with the lime markers almost impossible. Please notice that I did say almost.!! The weather did break somewhat Friday evening. Being the Marine that he is, Rick Larson headed out at Zero Dark Thirty Saturday morning to accomplish the task. In order to experience a Lime Run and for it to start on schedule, he laid out only half of the route with the lime markers and then met up with us about half way through to physically take the lead to the end. We wondered around the back road of Adams County and orchard country. We stopped at the Round Barn to purchase some jellies and jams. Then onto a covered bridge that is no longer operational. 4 (continued) The highlight to any chapter ride is the stop for ice cream near the end. This ride was no different as nine or ten bikes pulled into Mulligan McDuffer s ice cream and mini golf, just outside of Gettysburg. Ah!! But this ride was different. Thank You Chapter K for Picking Up The tab. Speaking of ice cream, a few days before the ride, John & Wilda were at the DQ in Dillsburg and saw another couple on a Goldwing. Wilda went up and introduced herself, and invited them to join us on a ride. And guess what, they came along. Let s give potential new members Todd & Deb Hampson a heart full Goldwing Road Riders welcome. Chapter Rich Wirt provided the training on 6/25 and was monitored by District Educator Doug Motter. ACD Gary & Judy Roberts Friends- Fun-Safety-Knowledge From your C.O.Y. Summer is suddenly upon us and no rain for a few days. Watch out for Chapter K on their motorcycles enjoying every minute. June 12: John said he really enjoyed the Lime Run and we can thank Rick and Vicki for another fine job. I heard so much about the ice cream stop so that tells me that the ice cream was outstanding. June 17-19: All Chapters West. What a wonderful weekend. Weather, riding, friends, surprises and so much more. John and Wilda, Chuck and Brenda, John and myself were the only ones from Chapter K. John and I camped while the other four stayed in a motel. I wish more of you would have gone along to join in the fun. The campground was very nice (very large) and everyone was friendly including the little duck who took a walk with some members from Chapter R. Friday night we had a parade throughout the campground and on the way picked up a group of golf carts who joined in the fun. Saturday there was a choice of 3-4 rides and with each one you got to see a lot of the countryside and the Amish in the area. The best part: NO RAIN! June 19: Last minute decision to go to Dairy Queen in Dillsburg. Had a very nice turnout for such short notice. Here's the story behind this: after cleaning up our camping gear, etc. after All Chapters, I said to John about taking my Honda out for a spin and stopping for ice cream. John decided to call Rich and ask that an be sent out to everyone to join us. Honda ran great (just like it did before), the ice cream was good and the conversation/stories rated off the charts. Great time was had by all. June 25: John participated in the Road Captain course (while I worked) presented by Rich. Thank you Rich for doing a fine job. John & Glenda

5 ICE CREAM Thank you John and Glenda Leib. At the spur of the moment, we received an stating that John and Glenda would be at the Dairy Queen in Dillsburg at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. We didn t check our until about 6 p.m., but it was enough time for us to get there. We had a great turn-out. I didn t get a count or names, but I think a good time was had by all. Thanks again for the notification and thinking of the rest of us because you were hungry for ice cream. Rick and Vicki Larson ALL CHAPTERS EAST We know everyone in the Chapter is aware of the upcoming All Chapters East at Drummer Boy Camping Resort in Gettysburg, PA from September 16-18, As the hosts of the All Chapters East, we will need help, and many of you have already either signed up or gave me your names and said to put you wherever help would be needed. Rick and I believe that most of the help will be things like the registration table, preparing the dining hall for meals, serving meals, clean up after each meal, 50/50 and silent auction ticket sales. We are also looking for donations for door prizes and our silent auction. These do not need to be expensive or extravagant items. They don t even necessarily need to be motorcycle related. If you would like to put together a basket for an auction item or door prize, or would like to donate something, we would surely appreciate it. Please contact Rick and Vicki Larson. Also, if you would like to volunteer to help, and are not sure you ve passed along your name, just let us know. 6 ROAD CAPTAINS COURSE From a Co-Riders Perspective Rich Wirt and Doug Motter held a Road Captains course on June 25 th at our house. First, thanks Rich and Doug for your time, and thanks to John Crosson, George Wilson, Gary Roberts, Rick Larson, and John Leib for participating. I was the only co-rider today and I really got an understanding of the intricacies of leading a ride. Rick has led lots of rides during his motorcycle years, and I guess I took a lot of what is involved for granted. The classroom part was really good Rich and Doug covered all the topics well. Then we had to take a test. I paid attention the whole time, honest, and I still got two wrong. It would have been three except our teachers noticed that one of us was struggling with a question. When asked which one, I answered I m too embarrassed to tell (the first question for heaven s sake!) I think some were trick questions or I m a slow learner, not sure which. It was now time to go out on the road and each rider had to take a turn leading and being the drag bike. It was a good route and put everyone through their paces with correct hand signals and communication with the drag rider. I think we all did well, especially on busy Route 15. Easy for me to say, I was just a passenger although I did use some hand signals at times so Rick could pay attention to the road and driving/riding. When we got back to the house, I was thanked for using the appropriate hand signals. So, CO-RIDERS out there, take the time to learn the hand signals. There are only a few and most are obvious and easy to learn. Thanks again Rich and Doug, I did learn a lot today. THERE ARE THINGS LIKE BLAIN HERITAGE DAYS, THE MARYSVILLE CARNIVAL. CHURCH DINNERS ( THE FOOD IS USUALLY GREAT AND THE PRICES ARE NOT BAD).

7 July 2016 FROM THE DISTRICT DIRECTORS Greetings everyone! Would you believe that July 4th is just around the corner. Time is flying by too fast. We hope everyone has been putting on the miles on their motorcycles. We sure wish Mother Nature would consider turning off the rain machine soon. This past month Andi and I attended some very fun filled events. The Region B Campout was held at Rivers Edge Campground in Connellsville, PA June The PA District had five chapters represented, second only to Maryland's six chapters. The campground was very nice, Mother Nature cooperated which made it even nicer, and we had a wonderful time visiting with members of other region chapters. Thank you Ray and Cheryl Hartman, International SIG Coordinators, for putting this all together. Watch for more information about the Region B Campout for From what Ray and Cheryl said it is going to be in Central Pennsylvania next year. All Chapters West, hosted by Chapter N was held at Vacation Land Campground in Sandy Lake, PA June A great big thank you goes out to all the members of Chapter N for sponsoring this event. There were 128 people in attendance for the Saturday afternoon meal. Mother Nature didn't cooperate on Thursday but gave us a beautiful hot and sunny Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We had a great time visiting with our many friends from various chapters. The rides were very interesting and the meals provided by the campground were delicious. Walking around the campground in the evenings it looked like all the campfires were well attended. If anybody left there bored and hungry, then I don't know what else could have been done. One thing that Andi and I noticed at these events was the enthusiasm that chapter members had. Some chapters had a lot of members attending and some chapters had a few but everyone had a great time talking with other chapters and catching up with other friends they haven't seen in a while. We are firm believer that if you want your chapter to succeed, there must be enthusiasm from the leaders. Enthusiasm is contagious to other chapter members and your chapter will grow. While at the All Chapters event this past weekend, Marty Miller distributed CD's of the pictures that were taken at the Rally in State College. I believe he has a copy for all our 21 chapters. If you haven't received one from Marty, please contact him and I'm sure he will be glad to get one for your enjoyment. Thank you Mr. Miller for taking the time and effort in putting the slide show together for the Rally. Earlier in June we ed a survey about the PA District Rally to all of the chapter directors. Thank you to all of you who took the time to fill out the survey. We received some very interesting responses and we will keep all of them in mind when we are planning the District Rally for Don t forget to mark your calendar for May 18, 19 and 20, 2017 in State College for our PA Rally. For those chapters planning your ride schedules for next year, we have set the date for our annual District Team Meeting. It will be held in Altoona Pa on April 29, The meeting this year will be open to Chapter Directors, Assistant Chapter Directors, Chapter Educators, Chapter Treasurers and Chapter Membership Coordinators. We will be sending more information to you when all the details are finalized. If you have a suggestion on a topic that should be discussed at the district meeting please drop me a line and we will add it to the agenda. The District fund raiser ticket for the month of August is fast approaching. We are reminding Chapter Directors that we will need all tickets, sold and unsold, and money returned to us by JULY 16, Checks are to be made out to GWRRA PA DISTRICT. We thank all of you for your support in selling these tickets. By getting involved in this venture you are helping out both the district and your chapter treasury. ( continued next page )

8 ( DISTRICT DIRECTORS continued ) Don t forget! You still have time to get your reservations in for All Chapters East. It will be held on September at Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg PA. Discount registration deadline is July 15th but you can still register up to August 10, This is an easy way to pick up points for the District Roll For The Dough program. All you need to do is have 5 members from your chapter attend for the weekend or purchase a day pass for Saturday and you can earn points. If you don t do camping, no problem, there are plenty of cabins at the campground or check out a hotel in the area. All the information is on the District and Chapter K s website. Looking over the schedule of events, it looks like it will be a fun filled weekend. Let s see how many chapters we can have in attendance and fill up the place with GWRRA members. Hope to see you there. We are looking for a Chapter to host 2017 All Chapters West. Anyone interested in hosting next year s western event please let us know. It is a bit of work but everyone that has held the event says it is well worth the effort. We have a chapter interested in hosting All Chapters East for 2017, so stay tuned for more information to follow. MINI GOLF We had 14 members of Chapter K and 5 members of Chapter B show up for the mini golf challenge on July 9 th. We arrived at Frosty Putter in Lewisberry and proceeded to play 18 holes in the 90 degree plus heat. None of us were sure how the challenge was supposed to go, so we winged it and just picked teams and kept score. At the end of the game we determined the lowest scorer for Chapter K was Brian Knox with a score of 38 (3 under par) and one of the Chapter B members had a score of 45 (4 over par). Brian had 2 hole-in-ones although the 2 nd one was an assist by Vicki Larsen. We proceeded to ride to Reeser s Ice Cream for lunch and of course Ice Cream!

SINCE OUR TIRES ARE WHAT SUPPORT OUR WINGS AND CONNECT US TO THE ROAD WE SHOULD WANT THE BEST TIRE WE CAN GET. WHEN CHECKING ARTICLES ABOUT TIRES, I FOUND THAT TIRES HAVE TWO MAJOR ENEMIES. TIME, TIRES START TO DETERIORATE FROM THE TIME THEY ARE TAKEN OUT OF THE MOLD. THE OTHER IS THE SUN. UV LIGHT HELPS BREAK DOWN THE RUBBER COMPOUNDS TIRES ARE MADE FROM. I KNOW THAT ALL OF US HAVE BUDGETS FOR OUR HOBBIES AND DON T WANT TO SPEND EXCESS FUNDS ON TIRES. FOR MYSELF, SINCE GETTING THE TRIKE, I DON T WORRY ABOUT GETTING THE BEST TIRE. ON THE TWO WHEELER I USED TO RUN AVONS AS I LIKED THE WAY THEY STUCK TO THE ROAD. WHEN I WANTED TO PUT AN AVON ON THE FRONT OF THE TRIKE I WAS TOLD SINCE YOU CAN T FALL OVER ANYMORE, YOU DON T NEED TO SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY, SO I DIDN T. TAKE CARE, RIDE AWARE DENNY
