5 Chapter Director Randy & Janet Shawley THE HOT SEAT FROM THE DESK OF THE CHAPTER DIRECTOR HELLO CHAPTER T FAMILY Hello everybody, where has this year gone!!! Fall is setting in quickly and riding season is getting short. Keep riding before that four letter word s**w gets here. Last gathering was another good turnout for our chapter. We had 33 members attend the last gathering. Debbie Thompson was lucky enough to win the 50/50. There was no progressive winner because the person that was picked was not present and the jackpot continues to climb. I could not think of a good article for the newsletter so here is what I did. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down Randy & Janet

6 Chapter T Assistant Directors Chapter T Couple of the year Bob and Carolyn Short We. All chapters East was attended by 16 members of Chapter T, nice job guys. Gettysburg is such a beautiful place to visit. This was our fourth time there and each time we see something different. We all had so much fun riding around town, seeing the battlefields and other site seeing trips. I guess I better mention a trip to Hanover I was really wanting to go to Gettysburg but told my hubby to turn left instead of right. Oh well it was a really nice ride and I took a ribbing the rest of the weekend for going the wrong way. I guess I will never lead another ride. Chapter K did a really good job of welcoming everyone, they were well organized. The food was good, the door prizes were many and really nice. I think everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. I know one of our rides had to be a first for all GWRRA riders. We went on a hunt for toilet seat, and off to Maryland we went. What a hoot that was, with Mr. Wonderful leading us, I ll never tell who that was. Needless to say we came back without one, but the ride was nice anyway. We had good weather until Sunday when we were all closing up our campers it decided to sprinkle. We rented a golf cart for our dog Misty, she loves to ride. When we saw how large the campground was we were really glad we did. You could ride for an hour just to get from one end to another. With camping season coming to an end soon, we are hoping for some continued nice weather to take a few more rides before winter hits. Before we know it the holidays will be upon us, with Christmas shopping, baking Christmas cookies and cooking meals for the family holiday dinners. We hope you all enjoy the beautiful fall weather. 7 EDUCATOR ROGER & TAMMY SNUFFER MAD COORDINATOR Sorry...Summer is over...just sayin...thought I would get that out of the way first! Now that the bad news is out of the way...we can focus on one of the most breathtaking seasons and most eye catching riding time of the year. Many festivals kick off and the tastes of apple dumplings and pumpkin everything rule the season. Cool foggy mornings often lead to beautiful warm afternoons and early ride ending evenings. Changing seasons, mean changing riding habits and although most riders are generally prepared, as educator I would just like to remind my fellow riders to plan for wet weather, leaf covered roadways, colder temps and always wildlife on the move. There are less motorcycles traveling, therefore, stay visible. Distractions of colorful leaves and sightseeing of other motorists take eyes off motorcycles quickly. Colorful did you know facts: 1. Levels of testosterone in both men and women are at their highest in the fall. This gives reason to why hunters refer to fall as rutting season. 2. According to NASA, fall is known as aurora season, because geomagnetic storms are twice as frequent. 3. According to the Weather Channel, pumpkin is the most craved for food in autumn. 4. While heart attacks and car accidents increase after the start of Daylight Saving Time in the spring, the opposite is true at the end of it in the fall. Heart attacks and accidents decrease the Monday after Daylight Saving Time ends. Roger and Tammy PA Chapter T

9 Rick & Andi Riek Greetings everyone, Andi and I just returned from All Chapters East at Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg and we had a fabulous time. The campground was very nice but seeing everyone that turned out was even nicer. Rich and Wendy and Chapter K did an excellent job putting it together. Seeing the many different chapters come together made all the hard work worthwhile. Thank you Chapter K for showing us all a good time. We really need to thank all the chapters that step up and host these events. We understand all the work that it takes to put something like this together and we truly, truly thank everyone involved in organizing these events for the membership. The dates for All Chapters West and East were also announced in Gettysburg. All Chapters West will be hosted by Chapter W on June 9th thru the 11th, 2017 at Friendship Village Campground in Bedford, PA. All Chapters East will be hosted by Chapter C on July 28th thru 30th, 2017 at Roxbury Holiness Camp in Orristown, PA.. Don t forget to mark these dates on your ride schedule calendar. The dates seem like a long time off but the way time flies by it will be here before you know it. The Pennsylvania District also had some exciting news to announce while at All Chapters East in Gettysburg. The announcement came that we have some team members that have gone above and beyond what is asked of them at this past Wing Ding in Montana. Gerry and Bonnie VanArt, our District Trainers, have been awarded International Trainer of the Year award. Also Doug and Cindy Motter, our District Educators, have received a merit award for their dedication to the Rider Ed program in Pennsylvania. With their dedication to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Pennsylvania District received an award in outstanding service for providing training and education to the members of our district. We also had some scary news while we were there. Wendy Wirt ended up making a trip to the emergency room on Saturday afternoon. She had been diagnosed with appendicitis and surgery was in her near future. All said and done she missed most of the Saturday events as she went under the knife. Rich was worried to death about her but she was in good hands with their daughters by her side. With them attending to Wendy, Rich could stay at the campground and make sure everything went as scheduled. The last we heard everything went according to plan and her recovery is going well. While there everyone signed a get-well card for her. I'm sure she would appreciate getting a card from anyone that wasn t there. (hint- hint)

10 We would like to take this time to thank all the chapters that sold our district raffle tickets for We had everyone of our 21 chapters sell tickets. By now your chapter director should have received your chapter return. Again, thank you for promoting and supporting our district fundraiser. Please don t get discouraged about the riding season coming to an end just yet. Fall sometimes produces the best riding time. With the changing of the leaves and the great scenery fall can be our best time of the year to ride. Just remember the dangers of falling leaves and wet roads. They can be a deadly combination. Also, hunters will be taking to the woods and the deer activity will start to peak. Please watch out for all the critters running out in front of you.
