DIRECTORS COMMENTS How many of you remember when the commercial came out with Where s the beef? Even though it is a little different riding a motorcycle, some passengers that either do or do not know how to drive their own motorcycle may ask themselves Where s the clutch? This year Chapter K is going to have a couple of training classes. We hope you all will come and enjoy and learn with us! Even if you have already taken some of the training classes, you can always learn something new that you missed the first time! Old Mother Nature has not been very cooperative lately with all of our plans! The mystery ride was canceled due to the weather we will try to reschedule in the near future. At our April gathering we had visitors from Virginia Chapter D, Fritz Sassine & Iris Gullet. They are Chapter D s C.O.Y., and were on their way home from visiting their son in Philadelphia, when they decided to stop and have breakfast with us. It was so nice to meet them and have them join us! We hope to see them again! Also, Chuck and Brenda Lewis and Rick and Vicki Larson were congratulated for acquiring their Level 3 in the Rider Education program. This is important because GWRRA must show the Internal Revenue Service that 51% of what we do focuses on safety and rider education. While this is not a forced program and it is up to each individual as to how far they want to go, it remains a very important facet for GWRRA. Please take a few moments and read Denny s article this month. It clarifies some common misconceptions about this program. April 13 th was ice cream at 3 B s on Derry St. It was nice to see everyone there! What a great surprise we had when Dave and Vicki Hutchinson joined us for a surprise visit!!! If you didn t come out and enjoy the ice cream, you missed a great time! May th - PLEASE come out and support John and Wilda as they participate in the District Couple of the Year Selection Process. 5 ASSISTANT DIRECTORS COMMENTS We had plenty of showers in April. Let s see if they bring the May flowers. Our Bunny Run this year was by far the best one yet. We had more than enough Bunnies, the weather was just beautiful and we had the most bikes participate than we ever had. After we left The Hoffman Home in Gettysburg, most of us didn t go with PA-V for lunch at Hoss s. We went over to Chambersburg to attend PA-C s gathering. Once we arrived and went inside, to our surprise was our own Tom White and Jeff and Sandy Martin, who had returned to PA from wintering in FLA. WELCOME HOME Jeff and Sandy. The 2016 mileage program was a huge success for Chapter K. Fourteen chapter members participated in the program. We racked up a grand total of 109,970 miles. 1 st Place: Jeff Martin 22,330 miles 2 nd Place: Tom White 21,413 3 rd Place: John Crosson 14,068 For the first time at the last Gathering, I won the drawing for the Ride for Cash for the month. The $35 I won will be donated on May 13 th to the Valor Clinic fundraiser at the Walnut Crème Stop. Check out the flyer for the fundraiser on PA- K s web site and also in this newsletter. And please Google Valor Clinic Foundation. Gary & Judy ACD MEMORIAL DAY never forget
EDUCATORS COMMENTS Greetings Chapter K, just a little side note. As a former newsletter editor, I used to send s about time for an article to various members. I told myself that I would have my articles in early to Vicki. For some reason I am now on the I need an article list. I don t understand where that month goes. The chapter is growing in members who are attaining level IV. I was talking with the District Educator and would like to dispel some misconceptions. I have trouble dealing with summer temperatures as I am sure others of you do too. One of the requirements of level IV is ATG, ATT. For those who don t know, it translates to All The Gear, All The Time. Wow, all the gear, all the time. That bothered me, as we have Tour Master riding outfits that we bought when we had the twowheeler. Armor, cold weather liners, waterproof, all that stuff. I can t imagine wearing that while on the trike in the summer. According to what I was told, ATG, ATT means a helmet (that s a no-brainer), long sleeves, gloves and boots. I have a couple of cool shirts. Guess what, they have long sleeves so they count. They are much cooler than the riding suits and protect from sunburn to boot. I have yet to meet a person who can keep from putting their hands out if they fall. If it is a planned fall, that makes a difference. Boots are a good idea unless you can stop without falling over. Test your memory, while riding on a two wheeler, how many times did you put your feet down only to find that the surface was uneven? Maybe a stone, or a depression? All are common sense things. Getting to be level IV and keeping current should be possible for anyone who wants to. Take care, ride aware, Denny Also from my lovely wife Chapter Shirts I found some very nice, California Blue dress shirts at Walmart. They are made by GEORGE, and they are open stock, meaning we can order them anytime. I would like to place and order, and some gave me the information at the April 23 rd gathering. If you were unable to attend and would like a dress shirt, please contact me at zumaqueen70@me.com or by phone at (717) I would like to have the information no later than June 1 st. The shirts come in sizes Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, 2X, and 3X. The cost will be approximately $14.68 each, give or take $1.00. This is an excellent price for a very nice dress shirt. We are not embroidering any of these shirts, they are meant to be worn under our vests. They have an open collar (not button down) for the Chapter Collar Bars that Rich Wirt recently ordered (not a requirement to order the shirt). I have the size chart information for anyone interested that wasn t at the gathering, in the event you are interested and unsure of the size you would need. I love you Den Thank you, Kitty Schardt
FROM YOUR DISTRICT C.O.Y. Q: What s the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector? A: The taxidermist takes just the skin Chapter K had a nice turn out for the Bunny Run. Oh, my! Where did all those bunnies come from (besides the fact that bunnies multiply quickly). Thanks to all who donated for a worthy cause and for all who turned out to distribute the bunnies. Our day started at Sheetz in Dillsburg where Chapter K members met to ride to York to meet up with Chapter V. Let me see if I remember everyone from Chapter K: Rick & Vicki Larson, Gary & Judy Roberts, John & Wilda Crosson, George Wilson & Carol, Rich Wirt, Todd & Debbie Hampson as well as John & Glenda Leib. Our first stop was Memorial Hospital. Then off to York Hospital where we were greeted by the EASTER BUNNY. What a welcome! I wish all of you could have been there to see her and the great presentation she gave. She was very entertaining. Our next stop was to Trinity Workshop in Hanover and then to Hoffman Homes. Check the Chapter K website for pictures. Eight of us rode to the Chapter C gathering in Chambersburg where we were joined by Jeff & Sandy Martin and Tom White. Chapter K members got a little greedy winning three out of four prizes. But it gets better! Judy Roberts pulled her own ticket to win the first prize and Gary Roberts pulled his own ticket to win one of the prizes. Who said that Chapter K doesn t have talent????? We did a nice, leisurely ride home. Jeff & Sandy invited everyone to stop by their place for coffee and cookies. Some of us took up the offer and had a very pleasant visit and kicked more tires. John and I continued with our visits to other chapters. April 22 nd, we visited with Chapter P in the Pittsburgh area. Since it meant either getting up early Sunday morning to make their breakfast at 8:30 a.m. or go the night before, we opted to leave Saturday afternoon and make a nice ride out of our visit. John was a little under the weather so we took the car. It was cool when we left Saturday afternoon so we were glad to have the car plus the traffic in the Pittsburgh area was congested due to the Liberty Tunnel being closed. We had a very nice visit with Chapter P. This chapter is planning a Bike Nite every Tuesday evening for the next several months and is very busy putting the plans into action. I wish I would remember the name of the lady who is organizing this. She is putting a lot of hard work, along with her helpers, into the event which will benefit Ride for Kids. John and I decided to take Rt. 30 home and stopped to visit some friends in the Greensburg area. John and I are planning to go to the Hobo Stew sponsored by Chapter M on Sunday, May 7 th. If you are interested in going, please give us a call. Here s a little chuckle for you entitled The Bathtub Test! During a visit to a mental asylum, a visitor asked the director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. Well, said the director, we fill up a bathtub, and then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub. Oh, I understand, said the visitor. A normal person would use the bucket because it s bigger than the spoon or the teacup. No. said the director. A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window? John and Glenda PA District C.O.Y.
FROM YOUR CHAPTER C.O.Y. Rain, rain, cold, cold, go away!! The weather is beating us up!! But when we re with the Gold Wing family, we always have a good time. On the 8 th we attended the MD Chapter I Pancake Breakfast with 7 other chapter members. Long day, but enjoyable. John attended the Ice Cream meet on the 13 th and I heard that Dave and Vicki Hutchison were there. Sorry I missed them. Then it was off to the Bunny Run on the 15 th and Chapter C later in the afternoon. All I m going to say is don t let Gary or Judy pull tickets for prizes they like to pull their own. On the 22 nd there was a ride scheduled and cancelled. The problem was no one checked their so some of us did not know it was cancelled. Chuck, Brenda, John Jr., Bethany (John Jr s fiancée), John and I showed up at Sheetz in Dillsburg but no one else. I checked my and sure enough the ride was cancelled. Since we were there and ready for a ride, we took off and ran into some rain here and there but it wasn t bad. John Jr. says his Dad likes to go in circles and that s about what we did that day. We ended up back at Scalles in Carlisle to meet up with other chapter members for lunch. It poured while we ate and it got cold. It was not a good ride home. Then off to the gathering on the 23 rd. On May 5 th to 7 th we had a campout scheduled. There were 9 of us that braved the weather and set up camp at Drummer Boy Camping Resort in Gettysburg. It was Rich, Wendy, Gary, Judy, Rick, Vicki, John Jr., John and Wilda. On Friday night, we had a great time around the fire, and some good cooks on Saturday morning for breakfast (see below picture). Saturday was pretty much a wash out. Saturday evening brought us some visitors from Chapter V, Barry and Rhonda Blyler. Barry was supposed to bring the sun with him but he failed us. We had a great time even with the rain. On Sunday I think we all were just ready to go home so we packed up and headed home. I like how we all help and wait on each other we all left at the same time. Coming up: May 12 th Stag Ride May 13 th Spring Fling, Chapter B May 18 th -21 st District Rally (John and I will be in the selection process for District Couple of the Year) May 29 th Parade in Newberrytown June 9 th 11 th All Chapters West July 22 nd John and I will be leading a ride. We are planning on going to the Flight 93 National Memorial. Hope you will join us. Aug 11 th 13 th - Elk Ride to Benezette. We are down to 11 people signed up. We can take up to 16. If you re interested, let me know. If you are planning on going, we are asking for $40.00 per person by July 19 th. This covers both nights. If you have any questions, please call me. Recently John and I had the Grandkids and two of our Sons down in Gettysburg. They had a great time climbing on the rocks and climbing the towers. At one of these stops, there was a Statue of a General and there was a sign on the huge rock that this Statue was sitting on. I m not sure of the exact words but you were NOT to climb on this rock. Well, I see people on the rock, and some of them maybe did not see the sign and just climbed on it because they could. I m not sure but it bothered me. So, as we were walking by I said to the two guys, you know you re not supposed to be up there. The one guy turned around and said, are you a cop? I said no, but it s a respect thing and there are a lot of kids around. The guy said you re right and got down. Why do I tell you this story? It s because respect is something I believe our
Country has lost. Let s remember people watch what we do young, old, and in between. So, the next time you re doing something in front of anyone, think and know that you are being an example to whoever is watching. Let s show respect for property and others. John & Wilda Chapter K C.O.Y. JOHN & WILDA you guys need this!!!

EDITOR S CONTRIBUTION: Maryland Chapter I Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, April 8, It was a chilly Saturday morning (32 degrees), might as well roll over and get a few more winks. Wait, Rich said we are going on 2 or 4 wheels better get moving as we have a 7 a.m. departure from TSC, Dillsburg. We are going to Temple Hills, Maryland for Chapter I s pancake breakfast to benefit autism. Let s get going, who is riding where degrees -- going in 4 wheelers. Rich said he is driving and has room for 6, 4 comfortable. Cindy has room for 2. So George and John C. get in the backseat with Cindy and Wayne. Cindy must keep snacks in the backseat of her car because they beelined it for her backseat. Rick L. and Wilda get in with Rich and Wendy. Wilda is in the front seat with Rich. Wendy is in the back seat with Rick L. We were playing musical F150 chairs. Cindy had to get the boys to settle down as it was a 2-hour trip to Maryland. We arrived in Temple Hills to find out that PA-K was the only Chapter from outside of Maryland. GOOD breakfast!! Plenty to eat, right John? Bacon, sausage, potatoes, scrambled eggs and of course some good pancakes. If you are reading this and are the first one to me (must be to confirm date/time), you will win a special prize. Lets see who is reading. Cindy won a door prize (Wayne, is that a shoe rack or a pot rack?) and something Chocolate. Wayne won 4 cups (screw/nail holders). Wendy won a roaster pan and Rich won 4 cups for the grandkids and camping. And no, John did not win the 50/50. The trip home was pretty quiet as the boys were sleeping so Cindy could drive. The ladies were also napping in the truck. Funny how we arrived back in Dillsburg just in time for some Dairy Queen Ice Cream. Who can resist? Fun day for all. Rick Larson
Bunny Run, April 15, Again this year we joined Chapter V for the annual bunny run for children. Rich, Gary & Judy, Rick & Vicki, John & Glenda, John & Wilda, George, and a bowling friend of his (my apologies, her name has escaped me), all met at Sheetz in Dillsburg at 8:30 a.m. We departed and headed for the McDonalds on Arsenal Road in York, in order that we could meet Chapter V. Todd & Debbie met us at the York McDonalds. We took off at 9:30 a.m. and headed for Memorial Hospital in York. Once inside, we met with two of the hospital staff to give them a very large bag of bunnies. Then it was off to the York Hospital where we were able to visit with 2 children and an infant, and drop off more bunnies to the Pediatric Ward staff. Kathy from Chapter V, and I, were asked to bring our bunnies to a room with an infant who has a 2-year old sibling. The baby was sleeping in the sweetest little rocking pod. It was automatic and it gently rocked the baby who was peacefully sleeping. The nurse said the family was due in shortly, so we left our bunnies on the rocking chair beside the child. Hope that baby gets to go home soon. We then left and Chapter V led us to a place in Hanover (here I go again, apologizing for not knowing the name talk about pathetic) that is a workshop which repairs broken bicycles and toys for children. We dropped off a bunch more bunnies there. Our last destination was the Hoffman Home for Children where most of the motorcycles rode around the inside perimeter for the kids to see, and then drop off bunnies for them. I will be honest, it is rewarding that we do this but somewhat sad sad that there needs to be a Hoffman Home for Children. Sad that kids need hospitals. Serious illness should be for old folks or nobody. A few of us from Chapter K departed Hoffman Home shortly after arriving in order that we could again support John & Glenda with their goal to visit every Chapter in the PA District. This afternoon, we visited Chapter C from Chambersburg. They meet at a restaurant (surprise, surprise I have NO IDEA what the name of the restaurant was). Anyway, the food was great. Along with John & Glenda, were Rick & Vicki, John & Wilda, and Gary & Judy. Upon arrival to the restaurant, Jeff & Sandy Martin and Tom White joined us. We had almost as many as Chapter C. At the conclusion of the meeting it was time for the drawings. Judy Roberts pulled her own ticket for the ladies door prize. Tom White won the man s door prize. Gary Roberts pulled his own ticket for the 50/50. I hope they bought some lottery tickets on their way home. It was surely their lucky day. John & Glenda led us on a nice ride back home via Route 233 up through Michaux State Forest. It was a nice day and thanks to everyone who donated bunnies and/or participated. Vicki & Rick Larson Editors P.S. Welcome home all you Chapter K winter Floridians.
GLENDA & VICKI S FUNNY CORNER I thought my neighbors were nice, generous people. Then they put a password on their Wi-Fi. A husband and wife were driving through Louisiana. As they approached Natchitoches, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the city s name. They bickered back and forth until they stopped for lunch. At the counter, the husband asked the cashier, Could you settle an argument for us? Would you pronounce where we are very slowly? She leaned forward and said, Burr-gerr Kiiing. Middle Age is have the choice of two temptations and choosing the one that will get you home earlier. I greeted my boss this morning, and he told me to have a nice day. Who am I to argue? I turned around and went home. A baby sardine saw its first submarine and went swimming in terror to its mother. Don t be frightened, she reassured him. It s only a can of people. I m not overweight I m just easier to see. How many Goldwingers does it take to hook up a 5 th wheel trailer to a truck? At least 8. You had to be at the May Chapter K campout to understand thanks everyone. Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the year, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, Now don t get mad at me.i know we ve been friends for a long time, but I just can t think of your name! I ve thought and thought, but I can t remember it. Please tell me what your name is. Her friend glared at her for at least three minutes. She just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, How soon do you need to know? As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife s voice urgently warning him, Herman, I just heard on the news that there s a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful! Heck, said Herman, it s not just one car. It s hundreds of them! TELL ME THIS WON T HAPPEN TO US!!!

DISTRICT DIRECTORS Well hello Goldwingers everywhere, Don't look now but I believe old man winter may have finally released his icy grip on us. Those of us that have lived around this area are used to this kind of weather but we all know how fast this sunny, warm, beautiful weather can disappear and frost is wiping out the blossoms on the lilac and rhododendrons. Let s hope he and Mother Nature is kind to us and she continues the warm, sunny weather. Try to remember that April showers bring May flowers, not April snow showers bring angry Goldwingers. May is motorcycle awareness month and we all know that angry motorcyclists should not take the bike out of the garage. Our training reminds us that before you get on your motorcycle you must be in a good frame of mind. With sunny days and warm temperatures ahead of us, we can mount our machines and enjoy the sport we all love so much. Also, motorists in cars and trucks are not used to motorcycles on the roads. Andi and I have been busy with the district team in getting ready for the district meeting and were still able to squeeze in a camping trip with some of our Goldwing friends. We are now planning on visiting Chapter N for their anniversary celebration. I m sure this will be an enjoyable time. We are working on finalizing plans for the PA Rally coming in May. Lots of positive things are happening and we are looking forward to getting the schedule of events out to you shortly. Mark your calendar, book your room, and get your registrations to us as things are filling up. We will be able to accommodate everyone who wishes to participate in the rally. The old adage "you snooze you lose" will soon be taking effect. And speaking of registrations, have you registered for All Chapters East and All Chapters West yet? Better get busy because the way time flies the deadline for registration will be here before you know it. What a wonderful time it is camping with your GWRRA family. Chapter C and Chapter W are putting in a lot of work hosting you at their events. There are flyers on the district website with all the information you need to register. Each chapter is planning on having a lot of fun at their events. Now is the time to start thinking about All Chapters East and All Chapters West. Camping spots are going fast, so again the ole adage, if you snooze you lose comes into effect. Looking at the Roll for the Dough standings, there are a few chapters that are moving along. Don t forget the District will pay their charter fees for We are hoping for every chapter to get involved in this program. By visiting other chapter gatherings and events you can learn how other chapters run gatherings and unique events. Every day we get a flyer or ride schedule from our chapters. It is looking like a busy riding season this upcoming year. We encourage our chapters to post their events on the district website to keep everyone posted on what you have planned for your chapter. Just drop Mike Ammerman an and he will post it on our site for everyone's enjoyment.
Andi and I have been busy working since we took over as District Directors of Pennsylvania. And it looks like we will be putting on a lot of miles again this year. This being our final year as District Directors we are doing everything possible to visit all our chapters. We will be conducting another fundraiser for our district and chapters. The district has already applied for and received a small games of chance license. The district team has worked hard to put this together.
