FROM YOUR CHAPTER ASSISTANT DIRECTOR Spring just will not cooperate with us this year. But Gold Wingers will prevail. Who would have thought that on April 17 th, you would have rain, then snow, then sleet, and back to snow and rain??? Well that was the weather for our ice cream meet at Leo s. Needless to say, no one rode the wings that evening, but that didn t hold back PA K from getting together and enjoying each other s company and ice cream. Let s just hope that we jump straight into summer because May is packed full of fun events throughout the District to launch the riding season into full speed. Just to recap a couple of topics from the Gathering in April. We would like to thank the Former MEC s, Brian and Sandy Knox for their service to the Chapter over the last three years. Wilda Crosson has been selected to replace them. The ride for Cash (Event Tickets went undelivered at the March Gathering. Cheryl White was not present, so the pot rolled over to April. The winning ticket for April belonged to Rick Larson congrats Rick. The Planning Meeting for the second half of the year is coming up, so get your thoughts and desires put down on paper. Saturday, June 9 th is taken. This is the day for the Chapter Progressive Dinner Ride. The Co-Hosts for the event are: Chuck & Brenda Lewis, Todd & Deb Hampson, Gary & Judy Roberts, and Rick & Vicki Larson. So mark your calendars more details to follow. Safe travels, Gary & Judy ACD

John s home!! FROM YOUR CHAPTER C.O.Y. With John gone this month, it was a little different going to things that were scheduled, but I made it to most of them. John and I started out the month going to the CPR Class on April 7 th. I enjoy these classes. You think because you already took it you won t learn things, but you do. One of the things I learned was how to tie off a gauze wrap when you have no tape, along with many other things which I m sure I was told before. Thanks Doug!! On the 14 th, Rich, Gary and I went to the District meeting. April 17 th was Ice Cream at Leo s. That s the day it snowed, rained, and I think we even got some sleet. No motorcycles at Leo s. Then, I think it was the Gathering on the 22 nd. That s the one I almost missed. Sitting at home drinking my coffee, ate my breakfast, and my son asked me when Dad was coming back. I look at the calendar and TODAY S THE GATHERING, and I was up and off to get dressed and grab all the items I need to take with me and out the door. I was not late for the meeting. I was a little upset that I ate breakfast at home. I do enjoy eating breakfast out. Oh well, next time I ll be there for breakfast and John will make sure of that. John got back on the 3 rd. He had a nice time. The weather was not the greatest at the start of the trip. But it improved. He did not like wearing all that gear to stay warm. In John s words: I think we may be getting some heated gear in the near future. I will get Wilda heated gear. I am okay with what I have, I was warm. It is true I was wanting warm weather but after a while it did warm up. I put my one coat away and was wearing my mesh coat. I saw a lot of beautiful scenery and beautiful canyons. I learned a few things about myself on such a long ride; looking to explore the U.S. It was the first I was ever on the West Coast. Looking forward to go again with my better half. UPCOMING: John and I plan on going to the Hobo Stew on the 5 th, and possibly to the Spring Fling on the 12 th. Will be at the District Rally, May 17 th -20 th. Hope to see you at one of these AWESOME events. John & Wilda, Chapter K C.O.Y.

FROM YOUR MEC CALLING ALL MEMBERS!! FIRST AID KITS!! On Saturday, April 7 th, John and I along with 10 other Chapter K members, attended the CPR/First Aid Course given by Doug Motter of PA Chapter V. The course was great and we all learned a lot. One interesting item we discussed was first aid kits. As the Chapter MEC and as Doug was talking about first aid kits, I was thinking about how many of us keep a first aid kit not only in your motorcycle, but your home, car, or work place? Doug passed out a sheet of paper that listed items that should be in a first aid kit. He also recommended one we can purchase from CVS Pharmacy for under $15.00 (and in fairness, any other Drug Store chain may sell the very same thing. I am not promoting CVS, it s just that CVS happened to be where Doug and Cyndi ran across this one. It caught their eye because it included the CPR/AED items that not all first aid kits include). Anyway, below are some recommended items that you should have in your first aid kit. Also important is shelf-life of some of the items so you should check your first aid kit each Spring and Fall to make sure nothing is ruined from extreme heat or cold. RECOMMENDED ITEM DESCRIPTION RECOMMENDED First Aid Booklet Compact One Antiseptic Wipes Individual Packets Six Antibiotic Ointment Individual Packets or Small Tube Six Packets or One Tube Anti-Microbial Hand Cleaner (Waterless) Individual Packets Six Packets Sterile Bandages 1 Wide Six to Twelve Steri-Strips, Butterfly Sutures As many as practical Sterile Gauze Pads 4 x 4 Six Sterile Gauze Pads 2 x 2 Six Medical Tape 1 Wide Paper Two Rolls CPR Mask One Emergency Space Blanket One or Two Normal Saline 10 ML Vials As many as practical Instant Cold Packs One-time use One or Two Burn Cream or Burn Gel Containing Aloe Vera One Glow Sticks One-time use Four Heavy Duty Zip-Loc Bags (Freezer-type) Gallon, Quart, and Snack As many of each as practical Non-Latex Gloves Minimum Four Pairs Non-Deodorant Feminine Pads Four Anti-Diarrhea Tablets Single-Dose Packets Two to Four Doses Antacid Single-Dose or Small Roll Two to Four Doses or One Roll Antihistamine Single-Dose Packets Two to Four Doses Ibuprofen Single-Dose Packets Two to Four Doses Acetaminophen Single-Dose Packets Two to Four Doses Naproxen Sodium Single-Dose Packets Two to Four Doses Triangular Bandage One to Two Scissors Preferably Trauma Shears One Pair Gauze Kling Bandage 2 Wide & Larger Four, at least Elastic Bandage 3 Wide One Tweezers Easy Grip Handles One Eye Drops One Flashlight Plus appropriate batteries One and spare batteries Duct Tape One Roll Note Pad One Pen Sharpie preferred Two Alcohol Prep Pads Wipes-Individual Packets Six Packets Mobile Phone Probably Your Own One Wilda Crosson PA-K MEC MARCH GATHERING: 22 Members and 3 Visitors

GLENDA & VICKI S FUNNY CORNER How children perceive their Grandparents (continued from last month): A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today. The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. That s interesting, she said. How do you make babies? It s simple, replied the girl. You just change y to i, and add es. Children s Logic: Give me a sentence about a public servant, said a teacher. The small boy wrote: The fireman came down the ladder pregnant. The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. Don t you know what pregnant means? she asked. Sure, said the young boy confidently. It means carrying a child. A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog s duties. They use him to keep crowds back, said one child. No, said another. He s just for good luck. A third child brought the argument to a close. They use the dogs, she said firmly, to find the fire hydrants. A six-year old was asked where his grandma lived. Oh, he said, she lives at the airport, and whenever we want her, we just go get her. Then, when we re done having her visit, we take her back to the airport. Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don t get to see him enough to get as smart as him! My grandparents are funny. When they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog After 10 years, the wife starts to think their kid looks kind of different, so she decides to do a DNA test. She finds out that the kid is actually from completely different parents. Wife: Honey, I have something very serious to tell you. Husband: What s up? Wife: According to DNA test results, this is not our kid. Husband: Well you might not remember, you were pretty tired but when we were leaving the hospital, we noticed that our baby had pooped and you said please go and change the baby, I ll wait here for you. So, I went inside, got a clean one and left the dirty one there. Moral: Never give a man a job that doesn t belong to him. FROM YOUR PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR

FROM YOUR DISTRICT EDUCATOR Hello everyone. Over the last few months, I have been writing about the Rider Education Database. After a basic introduction, I explained how to access it and read the information about your record. Then, we discussed the GWRRA Levels program, its importance, and the training required to advance through the levels. Once you reach Level IV the Master Level you may think that you have reached the epitome of safety and that you are done; no more courses or training. I d like you to know that you are not finished. The Masters Level has levels within itself. You have worked hard to achieve the Master Level, setting an example for your peers to be amazed by, and providing a model for them to follow. Once you have achieved the Master Level, consider continuing the path of motorcycling safety excellence by attaining the titles of Senior Master, Grand Master, and Life Grand Master. These achievements are awarded in five-year increments. For example: Senior Master awarded five years from date that the Master Level was achieved. Grand Master awarded ten years from the date that the Master Level was achieved. Life Grand Master awarded 15 years from the date that the Master Level was achieved. How does someone continue to climb the Master Level ladder? Maintain a current status in all of the training that is required for the earlier levels. That is to say Riding course for the rider (driver) every three (3) years Co-rider course for the co-rider every three (3) years CPR/First Aid certification every two (2) years Note: The five years of time between levels refers to time while current. So, any time when the rider or co-rider is not current in his or her training or is not a member of GWRRA (because membership is not renewed) extends the time required to reach the next level of the Master Level program. I have heard a few comments from people who don t believe that the requirement to stay current are not spelled out clearly enough. My response is this: Attaining the highest level of safety is of the utmost importance. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly difficult to expand one s horizons within our organization without current certifications in the Levels program. For instance, all trainers and instructors of the Rider Courses, Seminars, as well as the Modules must be current in their training to certify and re-certify. You may also be aware that some of the new officer positions require a current standing in rider education. The bottom line: If you want to be more involved if you want to become an officer you must be current in the Rider Education Levels program. Do what is right stay current! Remember: Be seen, and have Fun getting there. Doug Motter Pennsylvania District Educator

FROM YOUR DISTRICT DIRECTORS It sure has been a crazy spring. Is the sun going to shine or is it going to snow? Erie would like to get 1 more inch of snow to break the record and reach 200 of snow for the season. Did you enjoy your two days of spring in April? Oh yeah! Many of you were at the Officer Conference in Clearfield. It was great to see bikes in the parking lot. Thank you to everyone that attended and we hope you learned something from the presenters, your District Team, and that you enjoyed the day. We know it was a lot of information to absorb in a short time frame. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us or anyone from your District Team. It s May! Do you know that our PA District Rally will be in Uniontown, May at the Park Inn? The last day for registration is May 4 th. If you did not register, come to the rally and purchase a day pass and enjoy a day at the rally! We have about 20 vendors, many of them new to the PA Rally. Please remember to support them especially if you want them to return another year. Our University Coordinators and Rider Education has many classes for you to attend. Thursday s entertainment is Elvis Tribute Artist, Robert Keefer from Pigeon Forge, TN. Hopefully by the time you are reading the District newsletter, the schedule for the rally will be out on PEDS and available on the District website. With summer just around the corner, we hope you are making plans to visit the other Chapters in the District. Go to a Gathering or one of the many FUN events planned! Check out the events calendar on the front page of the newsletter or go visit the District website. Also, the District Ride Coordinator is working on a couple of ride-ins using both sides of the state. Those announced will be coming out soon!
