The Greyhounds travel to West Point, New York, for a 12 noon faceoff at the U.S. Military Academy. Loyola continues to be one of the strongest teams at the faceoff X this season, winning restarts at a 62.4 percent clip. As a unit, the Greyhounds rank eighth in NCAA Division I in that category. Graham Savio is 10th individually in faceoff winning percentage (60.9), Last Time Out A pair of Zach Herreweyers goals in the first two minutes, 43 seconds of the second half capped a 6-1 Loyola run that saw the Greyhounds take an 8- lead at No. 5 Duke University last Saturday, but Myles Jones and Deemer Class scored the last seven of the game for the Blue Devils in a 14-8 non-conference decision. Case Matheis put Duke ahead, 6-2, on his third goal of the game with 9:28 left in the first half, but Brian Sherlock scored less than a minute later to start a stretch of four unanswered for the Greyhounds. U.S. Military Academy USILA/Media Polls 13th/14th Overall Record 5-2 ACC Record 1-1 Head Coach Joe Alberici Alma Mater, Year Alfred, 91 Record/At USMA 84-1/6-65 Last Meeting Loyola, Army 6 March 15, 2014, in Baltimore while Brendan Donovan has been a solid change-of-pace on draws, winning 12 of the 15 he has taken this year. With two more assists, Nikko Pontrello will move into the top 15 all-time at Loyola in career helpers. The senior has a team-leading 10 this season and 4 in his career. He will tie Sean Heffernan and Chris Summers for 14th all-time with two more. Five of the Greyhounds eight goals last weekend at Duke came from Brian Sherlock and Romar Dennis. With three against the Blue Devils, Sherlock now has 14 this year, while Dennis has eight. Sherlock scored twice during that stretch, while Romar Dennis and Nikko Pontrello added scores, and Sherlock s tally with 1:0 left in the second quarter tied the contest at 6-6. Duke, however, took a one-goal lead at halftime when Jack Rowe scored off a faceoff 1 seconds after Sherlock s third of the half. Sherlock matched his career-high with three goals, while Dennis added a pair. Ryan Fournier assisted on two goals, a career-best. Duke was led by three each from Class and Jones, while Matheis tallied three in the first 21 minutes of the game.

Army enters Saturday s game ranked one spot ahead of the Greyhounds in the coaches version, 14th in the Inside Lacrosse poll and 19th in Lacrosse Magazine s. Series History Saturday will be the third all-time meeting between the programs and the second as Patriot League foes. Army won the initial game between the teams, 9-3, at the end of the 1943 season, and it took 1 years for the teams to meet again. Loyola won last year s meeting, -6, on March 15, 2014, at Ridley Athletic Complex, holding off the Black Knights after they pulled within a goal in the game s final three minutes. The Black Knights took a 4-3 lead 2:23 into the second half on a Shea Mullins goal, but Kevin Ryan scored for Loyola at 6:53 in the third, picking up a loose ball off a saved shot to tally his second of the day. That goal started a 4-0 Loyola run that saw the Greyhounds go ahead, -4, on Pat Frazier s first career goal midway through the final quarter. Army, however, scored twice in the last five minutes to draw within a score with 2:18 left in the contest. The Black Knights had four shots after that, but only one was on goal, and Jack Runkel made one of his 19 stops on the attempt to preserve the win. Tune In Saturday s game at Michie Stadium can be viewed as a pay-per-view event through Army s website. A link will be available to the broadcast at LoyolaGreyhounds.com. Hat Tricks For Herreweyers Zach Herreweyers opened the season with three goals in each of the Greyhounds first two games, and he then had scored five at Towson before tallying two versus Holy Cross. He came back with a career-high six goals in the Feb. 28 win over Lehigh and two at Duke, giving him four hat tricks in six games. So far, he has scored his 21 goals this season on 4 total shots. He recorded his hat trick against Towson in less than 15 minutes of game time, and he finished with a thencareer-high five goals. Herreweyers 21 goals thus far in 2015 are tied for third-most amongst NCAA Division I players, and he is fifth in goals per game (3.5). His hat tricks against Virginia, Penn State, Towson and Lehigh give him nine in his career with Loyola. Herreweyers has scored three or more goals in better than half of his collegiate games. He saw action in 10 games as a freshman in 2013, one last year and six so far in 2015 for a total of 1. With 40 career goals in 1 games, he is averaging 2.35 goals per game and 2.53 points with 43 career points. Great Start On Restarts Graham Savio put up an excellent performance at the faceoff X to start the season, winning 19-of-28 restarts (6.9 percent) against a pair of Virginia faceoff specialists. His 19 wins and 28 faceoffs taken were both career-highs, and he picked up a teambest nine ground balls, a number that was three off his career-high. In the game at Towson, Brendan Donovan came on to provide a needed spark on restarts. Donovan won 10-of-13 faceoffs, helping the Greyhounds win 18-of-30 in the game. Savio then put up a new career-best in faceoffs won Feb. 21 against Holy Cross, winning 20-of-28 against the Crusaders, and he won 16-of-21 restarts versus Lehigh, tying his career-best with 12 ground balls. Overall, Loyola has won 93-of-149 faceoffs this season, a 62.4 percent success rate, the No. 8 mark in Division I. Donovan has won 12-of-15 he s taken (80 percent). From The Middle Three of the Greyhounds five top scorers through five games have come from Loyola s first midfield unit of Tyler Albrecht, Romar Dennis and Brian Sherlock. Sherlock is second on the team in goals (14) and is tied for second in points (19). Albrecht scored two goals in each of Loyola s first three games and logged a career-best four versus Holy Cross. He is third on the squad with 10 total goals and tied for third with 13 points. After tallying two goals and an assist at Duke, Dennis has eight goals and five assists so far this season. Of Loyola s 66 goals and 38 assists, 48.4 percent of goals and 34.2 percent of assists have come from this unit. Doing A Little Of Everything While providing 15 combined goals and 32 overall points, two members of Loyola s first midfield line, Tyler Albrecht and Brian Sherlock, give the Greyhounds much more than just offensive firepower. The duo are regulars on faceoff wings for the Greyhounds and often drop back onto the defensive end of the field as short-sticks. Albrecht is tied for fourth on the team with 19 ground balls, while the two have helped Loyola win 62.4 percent of faceoffs. Pontrello Putting Up Points Nikko Pontrello has been held without a point just twice in the last 23 games, since the start of the 2014 season. Penn State held him scoreless Feb. 14, and Navy turned the trick in 2014, snapping a streak of 10-straight games to open last season in which he had two or more goals. He finished that year scoring at least one goal in every game but the contest at Navy, and he tallied two or more in 14-of-1 outings. Since the Penn State game, Pontrello has totaled eight goals and eight assists in games against Towson, Holy Cross, Lehigh and Duke, recording three goals and two assists versus the Tigers, two and a career-high four versus the Crusaders. Pontrello finished his junior campaign ranked fifth nationally in goals per game (3.0), and he was tied for third in NCAA Division I in total goals with 51. His 51 goals last season rank third in school single-season history, three shy of Eric Lusby s 2012 record. His 63 points are tied for Mike Ruland (1988) for 10th. He is tied for second on the team this season with 19 points nine goals and a teamhigh 10 assists. Sirico Sparks Scoring In his third career start, Zack Sirico posted a career-high four assists Feb. 28 against Lehigh. The sophomore missed the season-opener against Virginia with an illness, but he has recorded at least one point in ever game this year with a goal and eight assists in five games this season. Carrigan Stepping Up In Starting Role Sophomore Jack Carrigan made his first career start in the 2015 season-opener against Virginia after playing mostly on man-down during his freshman season a year ago. The Long Island native, who played high school lacrosse for Jack Moran, father of Loyola Assistant Coach Ryan Moran, at Chaminade High School, leads the Greyhounds with 10 caused turnovers and has also picked up 19 ground balls this year. Carrigan has also done a nice job covering his primary match-ups this year, holding Virginia All-American James Pannell without a goal or assist in the first game of the year. He then matched up against Duke s Justin Guterding on March, a game in which Guterding entered leading the nation in goals scored with 26. Guterding did not score a goal in the game against the Greyhounds. Causing Turnovers Penn State had 22 turnovers Feb. 14 in its 8-6 loss to Loyola, 1 of which were the result of Greyhounds caused turnovers. The 22 turnovers were the most by a Loyola opponent since Hobart had 23 on April 20, 2013, in Geneva, New York. Loyola s 1 caused turnovers were its high since posting the same number in a 13-8 victory on March 20, 2013, at Georgetown. Six players were credited with two or more caused turnovers against the Nittany Lions led by three each from Pat Frazier and Ryan Fournier. Jack Carrigan, Jason Crane, Mike

Frazier Draws National & League Honors Senior co-captain Pat Frazier earned a pair of awards after the Greyhounds 8-6 victory over Penn State. He drew Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 16, and just before the Towson game, he was honored as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Defender of the Week. The senior from Montgomery County, Maryland, had career-highs of six ground balls and three caused turnovers to go, and he held his primary one-on-one matchup to just one goal on two shots. In the Nittany Lions season-opener Mike Sutton had two goals and an assist, and last year, he averaged 2.3 goals per game. Frazier is a starter for the third-straight season on the Greyhounds defense and has 21 ground balls and seven caused turnovers through six games. The former walk-on began his career as a long-stick midfielder, but he made his first career start in the Greyhounds third game of 2013, at Towson, and has started Loyola s last 3 games. In addition to his work on the field, Frazier is one of 14 members of Loyola s Green & Grey Society, a group of students who are liaisons to the University s administration. Waiting On The Wings A large part of Loyola s success against in faceoffs this year has been its play on the wings, led by long-stick midfielder Ryan Fournier. The sophomore scored the season s first goal, picking up the ground ball off the opening faceoff and sticking a shot seven seconds into the Feb. game against Virginia. He added a second goal in that game for a career-high two. Fournier is second on the team in ground balls, nine behind Graham Savio with 28, and he has also contributed on the offensive end of the field. Fournier posted a career-best two assists March at Duke, setting up a transition goal by Zach Herreweyers and one by Nikko Pontrello in settled offense. He has five points with two goals and three assists through six games this season. Preseason Prognostications For the second year in as many seasons in the conference, Loyola topped the Patriot League preseason poll by a vote of conference coaches, leading the nine-team rankings with 12 first-place votes and 123 points. The U.S. Military Academy garnered one top vote and 110 points, while Lehigh University received the other five top nods and 109 points. Bucknell University, Colgate University, the U.S. Naval Academy, Boston University, Lafayette College and College of the Holy Cross rounded out the poll. Honors Candidates Four Loyola players earned recognition on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, and the same quartet garnered Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-America honors. Nikko Pontrello was named to the All-America Second Team, while Ryan Fournier, Pat Frazier and Brian Sherlock were received honorable mention. Get To Ten Since Charley Toomey became head coach at Loyola in 2006, the Greyhounds have scored 10 or more goals on 2 occasions. With the win over Lehigh, Loyola has won 80.5 percent of those games (58-14). Since 2012 Loyola has the best winning percentage in NCAA Division I men s lacrosse since the start of the 2012 season. The Greyhounds are 4-11 during that stretch (18-1 in 2012, 11-5 in 2013, 15-2 last season and 3-3 this year) for a.810 mark. Duke has won 54 games during that time, but the Blue Devils are second to the Greyhounds in winning percentage by nearly six percent (54-14,.94). Patriot League Network All non-televised Loyola men s lacrosse home games, will be broadcast digitally in free HD on the Patriot League Network. Powered by Campus Insiders, the Network started last year and provided one of the most comprehensive digital packages of any conference nationally. 6 Head Coach Charley Toomey 10th Season Loyola 90 Charley Toomey, who is in his 10th season as a collegiate head coach, has put his stamp on the Loyola men s lacrosse program as a disciplined, tough, athletic and skillful unit. The Greyhounds ascended to the top of college lacrosse in 2012, winning Loyola s first-ever NCAA Division I Championship. His 2013 and 2014 squad garnered return trips to the NCAA First Round, and over the last two years, Toomey and his staff have coached 19 players who earned All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. The 2012 Loyola squad set several program records and tied the NCAA Division I record for wins in a season with 18. The Greyhounds lost just a single game during the year, winning the ECAC regular-season and tournament championships en route to the national title. Toomey was named the 2012 recipient of the Morris Touchstone as the Division I Coach of the Year, and he earned his third ECAC Coach of the Year honor. During the year, the Greyhounds featured one of the most balanced teams in the nation, finishing fifth in scoring defense (.51 goals allowed per game) and eighth in scoring offense (12.05). Loyola s transition game was also vaunted during the year, and the Greyhounds unit has been heralded as one of the nation s best for several seasons. Toomey, who entered the 2015 season with a overall record, coached 19 players from who earned USILA All-America honors, including Joe Fletcher who was named the 2014 National Defensive Player of the Year. Under his direction, the Greyhounds have won four conference titles, three in the ECAC Lacrosse League and the 2014 Patriot League crown. and reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the past six seasons.
