James McCann had a pair of hits in the loss, while Miguel Cabrera and Jose Iglesias each contributed a RBI. Buck Farmer started for Detroit and was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout in 5.0 innings. MACHADO OPTIONED TO TOLEDO: Prior to last night s game at Los Angeles, the Tigers optioned the contract of infielder Dixon Machado to Triple A Toledo. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK: Yoenis Cespedes threw out Albert Pujols at home plate in the seventh inning of last night s game. The outfield assist for Cespedes was his fifth of the season, which ranks tied for third in the American League. During the stretch, Alburquerque has allowed 11 hits, three walks and struck out 11. He became the seventh pitcher in Tigers history to capture the ERA title and the first since Justin Verlander did so with a 2.40 ERA in JOINS FELLER WITH FIVE LOW-HIT GAMES IN FIRST 155: Sanchez fired a one-hitter in his outing on May 24th, 2013 against the Minnesota Twins, marking the fourth one-hitter of his major league career to go along with his no-hitter on September 6, 2006 versus Arizona. The outing was the 155th of his career and he joined Bob Feller as one of just two pitchers since at least 1916 to record five complete games allowing one hit-or-fewer in the first 155 games of their major league career. Feller also posted one no-hitter and four one-hitters during that span, recording his fifth with a one-hitter in the 139th game of his career on July 12, 1940 at Shibe Park against the Philadelphia Athletics. HISTORIC STRIKEOUT PERFORMANCE VERSUS ATLANTA: Sanchez recorded 17 strikeouts over eight shutout innings in his outing on April 26, 2013 against the Atlanta Braves, establishing the franchise record for strikeouts in a single game. The 17 strikeouts surpassed the previous high of 16 strikeouts accomplished by Mickey Lolich in a complete game effort on May 23, 1969 against the California Angels at Tiger Stadium. Lolich also recorded 16 strikeouts over nine innings on June 9, 1969 against the Seattle Pilots at Tiger Stadium in a game that went 10 innings. TOSSING A NO-HITTER: Sanchez fired a no-hitter during his rookie season with the Marlins on September 6, 2006 versus Arizona.
