The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader on May 26 with the first game beginning at 5:10 p.m. Detroit opened the 2017 season on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over the White Sox. Ian Kinsler had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, while JaCoby Jones added a three-run homer, the first round-tripper of his major league career. Nicholas Castellanos also belted a two-run home run in the win. Jus n Verlander started for Detroit and earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Francisco Rodríguez entered with two runners on and nobody out in the ninth inning and re red all three ba ers he faced to notch the save. The Tigers and White Sox conclude their two-game series this a ernoon. Following today s game, the Tigers return to Comerica Park for their home opener on Friday vs. the Red Sox. SEASON OPENER SUCCESS: The Tigers con nued their success in season openers with Tuesday s win. Detroit has now won six straight season openers for the first me in franchise history, bes ng the previous long streak of five straight season openers won from The streak is the third-longest ac ve streak in the majors, trailing only Bal more and Los Angeles (NL), which have each won seven consecu ve season openers. JaCOBY JACK: JaCoby Jones belted the first home run of his major league career on Tuesday, hi!ng a threerun shot in the second inning off of José Quintana. Jones became the first Tiger rookie to homer on Opening Day since Kirk Gibson in 1980 at Kansas City and the first Tiger to hit his first major league home run on Opening Day since John Sullivan in 1965 at the Kansas City Athle cs. Jones also added his first major league stolen base in Tuesday s game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the third Tigers player to record their first major league homer and stolen base in the same game, joining Frank Walker in June 1918 and Juan Encarnacion in September The last major league player to notch their first major league homer and stolen base in a season-opening game was Boston s Ben Steiner in KINS GOES DEEP ON OPENING DAY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON: Ian Kinsler hit a solo homer off of José Quintana in the fourth inning of Tuesday s game. It marked his fi h career Opening Day homer and the second straight year he has homered in the season opener. Kinsler became the second player in franchise history to hit an Opening Day home run in consecu ve seasons, joining Aaron Robinson, who went deep to start the season in 1949 and PILING UP THE PUNCHOUTS: A er establishing a career-high with eight double-digit strikeout games in 2016, Jus n Verlander wasted li le me recording his first game with 10-or-more strikeouts in 2017 a er fanning 10 White Sox in Tuesday s game. The 10 strikeouts are ed for the most by a Tigers pitcher on Opening Day since 1913, equaling the mark set by Jean Dubuc in 1914 vs. the St. Louis Browns and Mickey Lolich in 1966 at the New York Yankees and 1970 at the Washington Senators. Verlander now has 38 career games with 10-or-more strikeouts, which is the second most among Tigers pitchers since 1913, trailing only Lolich, who had 54 double-digit strikeout games in his Tigers career.
