Starter Daniel Norris (W, 4-4) threw 6.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits with one walk and a season-high-tying eight strikeouts. Ian Kinsler put the Tigers on the board first with his 43rd career leadoff home run. Tampa Bay took a 2-1 lead on a run-scoring groundout in the 3rd inning and an RBI single by Daniel Robertson in the 4th. Detroit s offense exploded with five runs in both the fourth and fi h innings. Alex Avila led off the 4th with a solo HR before Jus n Upton ripped an RBI double and Nicholas Castellanos followed with a two-run double. James McCann hit a sac fly for the 5th run of the frame. In the 5th inning, Upton hit a two-run single before the Tigers scored two more runs on a throwing error and another on an RBI single by Jose Iglesias. Castellanos added two more runs on a double down the le field line in the 6th inning. ELIAS SAYS: The Tigers erased an early deficit with consecu ve five-run innings in their big win over the Rays on Friday night. Detroit became the second team to score five or more runs in back-to-back innings within a single game this season. The Diamondbacks achieved that feat on June 11 against the Brewers, pos ng five runs in the seventh and eighth innings. The last such occurrence for the Tigers before Friday took place on September 17, 2008 Detroit scored nine runs in the fi h inning and five more runs in the sixth inning at Texas. LEADER OF THE PACK: Last night, second baseman Ian Kinsler took Erasmo Ramirez deep to le for his third leadoff home run of the season (others: 4/20 at TB, 5/21 vs TEX) and 43rd of his career, moving him past Cur s Granderson for sole possession of sixth place in Major League history. He has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games (since May 31) with a.327 (18x55) ba!ng average,.383 OBP,.673 SLG %, five doubles, one triple, four home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. His OPS during that period ranks fourth among all Major League third baseman, trailing only TOR s Josh Donaldson (1.203), KC s Mike Moustakas (1.176) and MIL s Travis Shaw (1.066). Castellanos ba"ed just.127 (9x71) with one extra-base hit (HR) and four RBI in 19 games prior to this stretch (May 10-30). DO IT UP: Detroit le fielder Jus n Upton has been an RBI machine over his last 14 games. Since May 31st, he has collected 20 RBI in 53 at-bats, ed for second most among all Major League players over that stretch (other: Mike Zunino, SEA). Only NYY s Gary Sanchez has more during that period (21). Upton now has 43 RBI in 63 games this season, ed for 10th most in the American League. Through June 16th last year, he had only 23 RBI through 62 games. CATCH SOME RAYS: The Tigers have won each of their last four home games against the Rays (since May 21, 2016), which is their longest home winning streak versus Tampa Bay since August 11, 2010 to April 10, 2012 (5 straight). Addi onally, the Tigers have won five of their last six home series against the Rays (since 2011) with a 14-7 record at Comerica Park over that stretch. UPCOMING GAME DETAILS #MLBDADS: Major League Baseball announced details today surrounding league-wide efforts to raise awareness about prostate cancer and raise funds for research to fight the disease. During Father s Day weekend, players and on-field personnel will wear the symbolic blue ribbon on their uniforms along with blue wristbands. Also, for the second consecu ve year, players will wear specially-designed uniforms and caps to raise awareness and funds for the fight against prostate cancer. MLB will again donate all royalty payments from the sales of specialty caps and jerseys to the Prostate Cancer Founda on and Stand Up To Cancer. For the first me, Father s Day games will feature a blue-s tched Rawlings baseball, the official ball of MLB, as the official game ball. ABOUT MICHAEL: In his second major league season, Fulmer will make his 13th start of the season today vs. Tampa Bay. LAST TIME OUT: Fulmer suffered his fourth loss of the season on June 8 vs. Los Angeles (AL), allowing five runs on nine hits with one strikeout in 4.1 innings. VS. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the streak was the second longest by a rookie star#ng pitcher since 1971, trailing only a streak of 35.0 scoreless innings by Fernando Valenzuela during the 1981 season. COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT: Fulmer threw the first complete game and shutout of his career on August 14, 2016 at Texas, sca%ering four hits and striking out nine. Fulmer became the first Tigers rookie pitcher to throw a shutout since Jus#n Verlander on May 22, 2006 at Kansas City and he joined Philadelphia's Zach Eflin and Colorado's Jon Gray as the only major league rookies to throw a shutout last season. Fulmer threw at least 6.0 shutout innings and allowed three-or-fewer hits in four straight starts from May 27-June 12, According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since 1893, when the mound was moved to 60 feet, 6 inches away from the plate, Fulmer and Jake Arrieta are the only two pitchers to record four consecu#ve starts of 6.0-or-more shutout innings and three-or-fewer hits allowed. Arrieta s streak occurred from September 22, 2015 to April 4, PICKING UP THE WIN IN HIS BIG LEAGUE DEBUT: Fulmer recorded the first win of his major league career on April 29 at Minnesota. Fulmer became the 41st Tigers pitcher since 1913 to earn the win in his major league debut and the first since Kyle Ryan on August 30, 2014 at Chicago (AL). EASTERN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE YEAR IN 2015: Fulmer was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year in 2015 a$er compiling a 10-3 record with a 2.14 ERA (117.2IP/28ER) and 116 strikeouts in 21 starts between Double A Binghamton and Double A Erie. He led the Eastern League with a 2.14 ERA and a.769 winning percentage, while he was fourth with a 1.10 WHIP and a.228 opponents ba&ng average. Fulmer led all Eastern League starters with 8.87 strikeouts per nine innings, while he was third with baserunners per nine innings and fourth with a.228 opponents ba&ng average. Fulmer was also selected to the Eastern League postseason All-Star Team.
