RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers earned a series split against the Yankees with an 11-7 win on Sunday a ernoon at Yankee Stadium. Victor Reyes had a career-high four hits, including his first Major League home run, and ed a career high with three RBI, while Nicholas Castellanos added three hits, including a tworun homer, his 20th of the season. Ronny Rodriguez contributed three hits and two RBI, and Dawel Lugo also had three hits with a RBI. Ma hew Boyd started for Detroit and earned his ninth win of the season, allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. The Tigers begin the final leg of their three-city, nine-game road trip today as they open a three-game series at Chicago (AL). Following the series against the White Sox, Detroit returns home for a six-game homestand, which includes three games vs. St. Louis (September 7-9) and three games vs. Houston (September 10-12). TO THE VICTOR GOES THE SPOILS: Victor Reyes had a career day at the plate on Sunday, hi ng his first Major League home run and finishing the game 4x5 with two doubles and a career-high-tying three RBI. Reyes, who entered yesterday s game with five extra-base hits in 81 career games, established a career high with three extra-base hits. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: Four Tigers rookies combined for 11 hits and seven RBI in yesterday s game as Niko Goodrum had a hit and a RBI, Dawel Lugo had three hits and a RBI, Victor Reyes had four hits and three RBI and Ronny Rodriguez added three hits and two RBI. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 11 hits were the second-most by Tigers rookies in a single game in franchise history, trailing only August 6, 1939 when Fred Hutchinson (4), Frank Croucher (3), Benny McCoy (3) and Barney McCosky (2) combined for 12 hits in the first game of a doubleheader vs. Boston. The 11 hits by rookies were the most in a game for a Major League team this season, and the most since September 14, 2017 when the White Sox had 12 hits by rookies in a game at Detroit. DANDY DAWEL: Dawel Lugo posted the second threehit game of his Major League career and recorded his first big league RBI in Sunday s game. Lugo, who was playing in the fourth game of his Major League career yesterday, is the fourth Tigers player since 1908 to have mul ple three-hit games in the first four games of his big league career and the first since Tim Corcoran in NICK THE STICK: Nicholas Castellanos recorded his 16th three-hit game of the season yesterday, going 3x5 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Castellanos 16 three-hit performances are the third most in the Majors, trailing only Sea le s Jean Segura (19) and Cincinna s Scooter Genne (17). His home run on Sunday was his 20th of the season, marking his second consecu ve 20-homer season. Castellanos has hit safely in eight of his last 11 games, ba ng.356/.408/.556 with seven runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and five RBI during that stretch. McCANN, CASTELLANOS VS. LÓPEZ: James McCann and Nicholas Castellanos have had success against today s White Sox starter, Reynaldo López.
