Minnesota added one run in both the second and fourth innings and two runs in the fi h inning to increase the lead to 5-0. The Tigers got on the board in the bo om of the fi h as Andrew Romine scored on a wild pitch and Alex Presley drove in a run with a RBI single. Minnesota put the game out of reach in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Joe Mauer and a three-run homer by Eduardo Escobar. Detroit got two runs back in the bo om of the ninth on a two-run homer by Ian Kinsler. KINSLER S POWER SURGE IN SEPTEMBER: Ian Kinsler belted a two-run homer in the ninth inning of Sunday s game vs. Minnesota. Kinsler has now homered eight mes in September and in four of his last six games. Kinsler s eight homers in September are the most he s hit in a single month since bel ng 11 homers in September, He enters tonight s game ranked ed for fourth in the American League with eight home runs in September. NICK THE STICK: Nicholas Castellanos had a pair of hits in Sunday s game and has now hit safely in 22-of- 24 games during September. He became the seventh pitcher in Tigers history to capture the ERA tle and the first since Jus n Verlander did so with a 2.40 ERA in JOINS FELLER WITH FIVE LOW-HIT GAMES IN FIRST 155: Sanchez fired a one-hi er in his ou ng on May 24, 2013 against the Minnesota Twins, marking the fourth one-hi er of his Major League career to go along with his no-hi er on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona. The ou ng was the 155th of his career and he joined Bob Feller as one of just two pitchers since at least 1916 to record five complete games allowing one hit-or-fewer in the first 155 games of their Major League career. Feller also posted one no-hi er and four one-hi ers during that span, recording his fi h with a one-hi er in the 139th game of his career on July 12, 1940 at Shibe Park against the Philadelphia Athle cs. HISTORIC STRIKEOUT PERFORMANCE VERSUS ATLANTA: Sanchez recorded 17 strikeouts over eight shutout innings in his ou ng on April 26, 2013 against the Atlanta Braves, establishing the franchise record for strikeouts in a single game. The 17 strikeouts surpassed the previous high of 16 strikeouts accomplished by Mickey Lolich in a complete game effort on May 23, 1969, against the California Angels at Tiger Stadium.
