Michael Fulmer threw the first complete game and shutout of his major league career, sca ering four hits and striking out nine. Offensively, J.D. Mar nez and Victor Mar nez each had three hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in two runs, while Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler each added a solo home run in the win. The Tigers begin a seven-game homestand tonight with the first game of a threegame series vs. Kansas City. Following the series vs. the Royals, the homestand con nues with four games vs. Boston (August 18-21). FULMER GOES THE DISTANCE: Michael Fulmer threw the first complete game and shutout of his career yesterday, allowing four hits and striking out nine. Fulmer became the first Tigers rookie pitcher to throw a shutout since Jus n Verlander on May 22, 2006 at Kansas City. Fulmer also became just the second rookie pitcher to throw a shutout this season, joining Philadelphia's Zach Eflin on July 22 at Pi sburgh. Since May 21, Fulmer has posted an 8-2 record with a 1.43 ERA (100.2IP/16ER) and 81 strikeouts in 15 starts. He leads the majors with a 1.43 ERA during that span, while he is second with a.176 opponents ba ng average and 0.83 WHIP. J.D. KEEPS IT 100: J.D. Mar nez belted the 100th home run of his major league career in the seventh inning of yesterday's game, hi ng a two-run shot off A.J. Griffin. Of his 100 home runs, 76 of them have come as a member of the Tigers. Since his first game with Detroit on April 21, 2014, Mar nez ranks 10th in the American League with 76 home runs during that span. BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS: The Tigers posted their second straight shutout yesterday at Texas. It marked the 64th me since 1913 that Detroit has shut out its opponent in back-to-back games and the first me since April 14-15, With a shutout today, the Tigers would post three straight shutouts in the same season for the first me since July 30-31, STAFF MEETING: With yesterday's shutout, the Tigers pitching staff lowered their ERA since the All-Star break to 3.16 (250.2IP/88ER), which is the second-lowest in the American League in that stretch. Only the Tampa Bay Rays (3.12 ERA) have posted a be er team ERA since the All-Star break. MIGGY MOVING UP THE MLB ALL-TIME HOMERS LIST: Miguel Cabrera blasted his 27th home run of the season yesterday, hi ng a solo shot in the ninth inning off of Alex Claudio. The homer was the 435th in Cabrera s career, breaking a e with Juan Gonzalez and Andruw Jones for 44th in MLB history. Cabrera now has 297 homers in a Tigers uniform and is three homers away from becoming the fourth player in franchise history to hit 300 home runs. CABRERA NEARING 1,000 RBI WITH THE TIGERS: Miguel Cabrera enters tonight s game with 999 RBI as a member of the Tigers. With one more RBI, Cabrera will become the 11th player in franchise history to record 1,000 RBI in a Tigers uniform. Cabrera, who has played in 1,334 games with the Tigers, is also looking to become the second fastest player in club history to reach 1,000 RBI, trailing only Hank Greenberg, who reached 1,000 RBI in 1,026 games with the Tigers. KINSLER, CABRERA VS. KENNEDY: Ian Kinsler and Miguel Cabrera have had success against tonight's Royals starter, Ian Kennedy. Kinsler is ba ng.583 (7x12) with four doubles, one home run and four RBI vs. Kennedy, while Cabrera is ba ng.417 (5x12) with two doubles, one triple and two RBI. KINSLER ON TARGET VS. KC: Ian Kinsler has fared well in his career against the Royals.
