Starter Jordan Zimmermann (W, 5-4) threw 6.0 innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Detroit took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on back-toback home runs by Nicholas Castellanos and Alex Presley. The Tigers plated four runs in the 4th inning, all with two outs. José Iglesias and Andrew Romine hit RBI singles before Alex Avila launched a two-run homer to make it 6-0. Detroit scored four more runs in the 8th inning on four hits, including a solo HR by Jus n Upton, a two-run double by Iglesias, and an RBI single by Dixon Machado. The Tigers bullpen (Stumpf, Greene, Leon) combined to throw 3.0 shutout innings. POWER SURGE: Over the first two games of this series, the Tigers are ba!ng.429 (33x77) as a team with a.471 OBP and OPS. They ve outscored the White Sox 25-6 (+19) on the strength of 19 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. With their win yesterday, the Tigers improved to (.650) this season in games in which they hit at least one home run. They are 1-14 (.067) when they fail to homer. WE RE GOING STREAKING!!: The Tigers extended their winning streak to three games yesterday, tying their season high (3x, last: April 30-May 2). The last me Detroit won four or more consecu ve games was a five-game streak from September 18-23, Addi onally, each of the Tigers last three wins have come against AL Central opponents (1 at KC, 2 vs CWS), matching their season best divisional streak. BREAK OUT THE BROOMS: Detroit is looking to complete its first series sweep since September 20-22, 2016 at Minnesota (3-0). They have not swept the White Sox since August 29-31, 2016 at Comerica Park (3-0). That three-game set also marked the Tigers last sweep at home. IGGY POP: Tigers shortstop José Iglesias recorded his second straight three-hit game yesterday, going 3x4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. He has now hit safely in each of his last five games (.579, 11x19), one shy of his season-long streak (6 G, April 13-19). Iglesias is ba!ng.447 (17x38) over his last 10 games, raising his season average from.195 to.255 in the process. He also happens to have the sixth best fielding percentage among all AL shortstops this season (.978, 4 E/183 TC). ON THIS DATE IN TIGERS HISTORY: Jacksonville Suns (Tigers double-a affiliate at the me) reliever Pamela Davis throws one scoreless inning of relief and gets the win in a minor league exhibi on game against the Australian Olympic team, becoming the first woman to pitch for a major league farm club. HOME BOYS: A#er playing the most road games of any Major League team in May (20), the Tigers are in the middle of a stretch in which they ll play 12 of 15 games at home (6/2-18) and 21 of 31 (6/2-7/6). Detroit has only 10 road games this month with 16 home games (+3 off days). The Tigers have a.583 winning percentage in their 24 home games this season (14-10), as opposed to a.419 mark on the road (13-18). Verlander finished the 2016 season with 254 strikeouts, the most strikeouts he's had in a season since 2009 when he struck out 269 ba!ers.
