Detroit grabbed an early lead in the top of the first as Miguel Cabrera launched a two-run home run, his 15th of the season. The Blue Jays got a run back in the bo om of the first inning on a RBI single by Kevin Pillar. Toronto ed the game in the bo om of the fourth as Kendrys Morales scored from third, while Teoscar Hernandez was caught in a rundown between first and second. The score stayed ed 2-2 un l the bo om of the sixth inning when Pillar led off the inning with a solo home run and Luke Maile hit a two-out single to put Toronto in front 4-2. The Blue Jays got an insurance run in the eighth inning on a RBI single by José Bau sta. The Tigers mounted a rally in the ninth inning as Nicholas Castellanos and James McCann each drove in a run to cut the lead to 5-4. Detroit put runners on second and third with one out, but Ryan Tepera got JaCoby Jones to pop out and Andrew Romine to strike out looking to end the game. TIGERS TRANSACTION: Prior to yesterday s game, the Tigers reinstated SS José Iglesias from the paternity list. MIGGY MACHINE: Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run home run in the first inning of yesterday s game for his 461st career home run, tying him with Adrian Beltre for 37th in MLB history. With his two RBI yesterday, Cabrera now has 1,612 career RBI, tying him with Goose Goslin for 32nd in MLB history (official Elias RBI list). LOOKING FOR THE LEFTY: Miguel Cabrera and James McCann have fared well against le handed pitchers this season. Cabrera has posted a.330 (30x91) ba ng average vs. southpaws with seven doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI, while McCann is hi ng.323 (30x93) with six doubles, seven home runs and 13 RBI with le ies on the mound. UPCOMING GAME DETAILS TIGERS AND BLUE JAYS: The Tigers enter today s game with a 3-2 edge in the season series vs. the Blue Jays. With a win today, Detroit would clinch its first season series victory against the Blue Jays since The Tigers have struggled at Rogers Centre in recent seasons, dropping nine of their last 12 games in Toronto. The Tigers last series win at Rogers Centre came in 2013, when they won three-of-four games. He became just the seventh Venezuelan-born pitcher in Major League history to reach the 1,000 strikeout mark. SANCHEZ CAPTURES AL ERA CROWN: Sanchez ended the 2013 season as the American League leader with a 2.57 ERA (182.0IP/52ER) to capture the ERA crown. He became the seventh pitcher in Tigers history to capture the ERA tle and the first since Jus n Verlander did so with a 2.40 ERA in JOINS FELLER WITH FIVE LOW-HIT GAMES IN FIRST 155: Sanchez fired a one-hi er in his ou ng on May 24, 2013 against the Minnesota Twins, marking the fourth one-hi er of his Major League career to go along with his no-hi er on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona. The ou ng was the 155th of his career and he joined Bob Feller as one of just two pitchers since at least 1916 to record five complete games allowing one hit-or-fewer in the first 155 games of their Major League career. Feller also posted one no-hi er and four one-hi ers during that span, recording his fi h with a one-hi er in the 139th game of his career on July 12, 1940 at Shibe Park against the Philadelphia Athle cs. HISTORIC STRIKEOUT PERFORMANCE VERSUS ATLANTA: Sanchez recorded 17 strikeouts over eight shutout innings in his ou ng on April 26, 2013 against the Atlanta Braves, establishing the franchise record for strikeouts in a single game. The 17 strikeouts surpassed the previous high of 16 strikeouts accomplished by Mickey Lolich in a complete game effort on May 23, 1969, against the California Angels at Tiger Stadium.
