RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers lost the series finale to the Indians, 8-1, on Sunday a ernoon at Comerica Park. Niko Goodrum, José Iglesias, Leonys Mar n, Victor Reyes and Ronny Rodriguez each had one hit in the loss, while Nicholas Castellanos drove in Detroit s only run of the game. Jordan Zimmermann started and took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings. The Tigers con nue their five-game homestand tonight as they begin a two-game series vs. Cincinna. Following the series vs. the Reds and an off day on Thursday, Detroit hits the road for a six-game trip, which includes three games at Oakland (August 3-5) and three games at Los Angeles (AL) (August 6-8). TIGERS ACQUIRE WILLI CASTRO FROM CLEVELAND IN EXCHANGE FOR LEONYS MARTIN AND KYLE DOWDY: The Detroit Tigers announced earlier today that they have acquired SS Willi Castro from Cleveland in exchange for OF Leonys Mar n and RHP Kyle Dowdy. Castro, 21, is ranked as Cleveland s No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline, and was originally signed by the Indians in Through 97 games with Double A Akron this season, the switch-hi er carries a.245 (91x371) ba ng average with five home runs, 20 doubles, two triples and 39 RBI. Castro was named an Eastern League All-Star earlier this season. Over five seasons in the Indians organiza on, the Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico na ve has posted a.263 (472x1795) average with 26 home runs, 182 RBI, 79 doubles and 19 triples. Castro was selected as an Indians organiza on All-Star by MiLB.com last season, and was named to the 2017 midseason and postseason Carolina League All-Star Team a er leading Single A Lynchburg, and ranking second in the league with 136 hits, and recording career-bests with 11 home runs, 58 RBI and 69 runs scored. GERBER RECALLED FROM TRIPLE A TOLEDO: To fill Leonys Mar n s 25-man roster spot, the Tigers have recalled OF Mike Gerber from Triple A Toledo. Gerber, who is No. 25 on MLB Pipeline s Tigers top prospects list, is on the Major League roster for the third me this season. V-MART STAYS HOT: Victor Mar nez went 1x4 in Saturday s game to extend his hi ng streak to six games. Over the six games, Mar nez has posted a slash line of.455/.520/.773 with a double, two home runs and six RBI during the streak. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK: Nicholas Castellanos threw out Edwin Encarnacion at home plate in the fi h inning of Saturday s game. Castellanos now has seven ou ield assists on the season, which ranks ed for seventh in the American League. As a team, Detroit ou ielders have combined for 23 ou ield assists, which is the third-highest total in the Majors (Bal more and Texas, 25). THE PEN IS MIGHTIER: Despite allowing three runs in 6.0 innings on Sunday, the Tigers bullpen has been one of the best in the American League this month. Detroit relievers have combined for a 3.52 ERA (76.2IP/30ER) during the month of July, which is the third-lowest in the American League, trailing only New York (AL), (3.27 ERA) and Oakland (3.41 ERA). The Tigers bullpen also ranks fi h in the AL with a 1.21 WHIP and.244 (71x291) opponents ba ng average. TIGERS TIDBITS: Alex Wilson struck out two ba ers in a scoreless inning on Sunday vs. Cleveland. Over his last 10 appearances, Wilson has posted a 0.82 ERA (11.0IP/1ER) with five hits allowed, one walk and six strikeouts...josé Iglesias went 1x3 with a double on Sunday and has now recorded an extra-base hit in three of his last four games.
