Starter Ma hew Boyd (W, 5-5) threw 7.1 innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts. The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on a two-run homer by Evan Ga s. Derek Fisher hit an RBI triple in the 4th inning to put Houston up 3-0. Tigers shortstop José Iglesias delivered a twoout RBI double in the 5th inning to cut the lead to two. Detroit then plated three runs on three hits in the 7th inning, including another RBI double by Iglesias and an RBI single by Ian Kinsler. Victor Mar nez added a two-out RBI single in the 8th inning to push the lead to two. Closer Jus n Wilson pitched a scoreless 9th inning for his 13th save of the season. ELIAS SAYS: Including Saturday s victory over the Astros, Tigers pitcher Ma hew Boyd has won each of his last three starts despite being charged with three earned runs in each contest. The only other pitcher with a streak of that length this season is Chris Sale, who had four consecu ve wins with three or more earned runs from May 24th to June 10th. A two-run homer by Evan Ga s in the 1st inning gave the Astros an early lead at Comerica Park, but the Tigers scored five unanswered runs in the late innings to complete the comeback win. Houston had been the only Major League team that was undefeated this season a er scoring mul ple runs in the 1st inning; they were 14-0 in such games entering Saturday. COMEBACK KIDS: The Tigers trailed last night s game 3-1 a er 6.0 innings, but came back to win 5-3. It marked just their second win of the season when trailing a er 6.0 innings. They were 1-41 (.024) in such situa ons prior to Saturday. Overall, it was their 25th come-from-behind win of the season. WEST MICHIGAN SETS FRANCHISE RECORD: The West Michigan Whitecaps, one of Detroit s single-a affiliates, achieved a remarkable franchise milestone Saturday night as they notched their 20th shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Lake County Captains. The Whitecaps, who improved to 24-9 (.727) in the second half and (.690) overall, now find themselves just three shutouts shy of the Midwest League record of 23, set by Quad Ci es in TEXAS TOAST: The Tigers are looking to improve to in their last seven home series against the Astros. Their only series loss ever to Houston in the city of Detroit came in their first Interleague mee ng in June of 1998 (0-3). This year, the Tigers are just 2-4 against the Astros, but they have only been outscored by two total runs in those six contests (26-24). Three of their four losses have been decided by exactly one run (1-0, 7-6, 6-5). Detroit is (.576) versus Houston since they moved to the American League in 2013 (spent first 51 seasons in the NL, ), which includes an 11-5 (.688) record at Comerica Park. ROAD WARRIORS: Following their a ernoon lt against the Astros today, the Tigers hit the road for a nine-day, three-city trip through New York (3 G), Bal more (4 G) and Pi sburgh (2 G). 12 of the Tigers next 17 games will be played on the road and 18 of their next 29. Detroit has struggled away from the friendly confines of Comerica Park this season, going (.392) in 51 road contests. WEST SIDE STORY: The Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak against the AL West last night with their 5-3 win over the Astros. Detroit is 10 games under.500 this season versus the AL West (8-18,.308), as opposed to an even.500 versus all other divisions (38-38). The Tigers.308 winning percentage against the West this year is the lowest among all AL teams. They have not finished with a winning record against the AL West since 2014 (18-16) and they are 20 games under.500 against the division since 2015 (36-56,.391).
