GENERAL RULES All permitted cheerleading specialty skills, including tumbling, partner stunts, pyramids and jumps fr the Game Time Divisins must fllw the AACCA High Schl Cheerleading Safety Rules. Please see additinal specific skill restrictins belw fr each categry. All skills shuld be carefully reviewed and supervised by a qualified adult advisr/directr/cach. A. DIVISIONS: High Schl Junir High / Middle Schl B. SCHOOL REPRESENTATION: All members f the perfrming squad must be current members f the fficial schl spirit squad and/r sng/pm/dance team, and must attend the schl they are representing. These must be individuals wh cheered and/r perfrmed n the sidelines/halftime fr games during the apprpriate seasn. (Exceptin: this will nt preclude participatin frm sister schls fr samegender schls as lng as they are fficial members f the squad.) All Game Time divisins [with the exceptin f the Band Dance/Time-Out Dance (Sng/Pm Squads and Dance Teams)] are required t be cmprised f at least 50% cheerleaders. Game Time divisin rutine(s) are encuraged t include ther sideline spirit grups (i.e. dance team, sng/pm, masct, pep/shrt flag, etc.), and will be judged as ne unified rutine. Additinal perfrmance-based and/r spirit grups may nt enter the divisin withut their cheerleaders [with the exceptin f the Band Dance/Time-Out Dance (Sng/Pm Squads and Dance Teams)]. Band Dance/Time-Out Dance (Sng/Pm Squads and Dance Teams) may nt have any members f the cheerleading squad in their rutine. Mascts are limited t the same prps as cheerleaders (pms, signs, flags, megaphnes and/r banners) and are NOT allwed t stunt in any Game Time divisin. Rutines must be apprpriate fr family viewing. Any vulgar and/r suggestive mvements, wrds, r music will result in a scre deductin. The team and each participating member/cach shuld cnstantly display gd sprtsmanship thrughut the entire perfrmance in regards t respect fr themselves, ther teams and the viewing audience. Teams shuld refrain frm

2 any taunting, bragging, r suggestive expressins r gestures as well as discriminatin f any nature. We recmmend that the team and each f its members display an verall appearance cnducive t serving as public representatives and ambassadrs f their schl in regards t grming, traditinal and apprpriate attire, cnservative make-up, unifrmity, etc. C. UNIFORM RULES: All participant unifrms must cver the midriff when standing at attentin. Cvered midriff des include flesh r nude clred bdy suits and liners; hwever fringe wuld nt cunt as a cver. N tear-away unifrms and/r remval f clthing are permitted. D. COMPETITION AREA: Participants may stand r enter utside the cmpetitin area. All permitted skills (stunts, pyramids, tumbling etc.) must be perfrmed n the cmpetitin mat. Cmpetitins cmply with the NFHS & AACCA surface ruling that schl based prgrams may nt cmpete n a spring flr. Apprximate flr size will be a traditinal mat f 54 feet wide by 42 feet deep (9 strips). Perfrmance flr fr the Band Dance/Time-Out Dance divisins will depend upn event lcatin. Objects cannt be thrwn utside the cmpetitin flr. Pms, signs, flags, megaphnes and/r banners may be placed r drpped utside the cmpetitin area by a team member. E. MUSIC GUIDELINES/RESTRICTIONS: Music guidelines are being fllwed at all USA and Varsity Brands events. Cmpetitin music must be prperly licensed and a team must be able t prvide prf f licensing (upn request) at any event where the music is used. If a team cannt prvide prf f licensing immediately upn request, the team may be disqualified frm the event. Fr further details visit In rder fr a team s rutine music t be featured in a televisin bradcast, shuld this be an ptin, teams must d the fllwing: Use an riginal cmpsitin created r cmmissined by yu (i.e. an riginal sng and recrding t which yu wn r license the rights by written agreement) Additinally secure the synchrnizatin rights. Nt all riginal music prviders can/will prvide these rights. Submit prf f licensing, as well as synchrnizatin rights, when requested after the event.

3 Music is defined as any recrded sund amplified thrugh the cmpetitin sund system. A sund system will be prvided. Speed cntrl is nt available. Music checks n the main sund system are nt permitted. A representative must be present at the sund system at the time f perfrmance. Advisr/directr/cach is asked t hld nt their wn music until the time f perfrmance and t take music back fllwing the perfrmance. All teams must prvide their wn MP3 device r smart phne fr use n the event prvided sund system. Music must be recrded at the crrect temp. Althugh it is nt recmmended due t interference that may be caused during a rutine, a smart phne may be used fr playing music. N cver may be n any MP3 player r smart phne s that a patch crd may be easily inserted int the device. Please ensure that jacks are clean and free f any debris which may impact cnnectivity. Yu must ensure that yur device has a jack int which a patch crd may be inserted. Nte that yu may need t acquire an adapter in advance if yur player des nt have a head phne jack. One r several selectins f music may be used, as lng as they fllw the music licensing rules. F. TIME LIMITATIONS/ENTRANCE/EXIT: Each team will perfrm a rutine nt t exceed 1 minute and 15 secnds. Teams may nt set up prps in advance f any categry. See specific categry fr details n the start and stp f each type f rutine. All team breaks, rituals and traditins need t take place prir t the team being called t the perfrmance flr Teams shuld take the flr immediately with spirit and enthusiasm, but withut excessive gestures. Example: chest bumps, hugs, hand shakes, etc. All teams shuld refrain frm any type f excessive celebratin fllwing the team s perfrmance. Any team in vilatin may receive a sprtsmanship penalty. There shuld nt be any rganized exits r ther activities after the fficial ending f the rutine. G. VIDEO MEDIA POLICY N cmmercial recrding (audi r visual) r cmmercial live streaming is allwed in the event venue r ther event-related venues (including, but nt limited t, htels and restaurants) r n the grunds f any such venues (cllectively, Event Lcatins ). In the event a team authrizes the cmmercial recrding r streaming in any Event Lcatin, the team will be autmatically disqualified. In additin, the persnal, nn-cmmercial use f live streaming apps (such as Periscpe, Facebk Live, etc.) t capture all r any part f a perfrmance during the event is nt permitted. By attending/purchasing admissin t the event, each attendee grants permissin t Varsity Spirit, LLC and its affiliates, designees, agents, licensees, and invitees t use the image, likeness, actins and statements f the attendee in any

4 live r recrded audi, vide, film, r phtgraphic display r ther transmissin, exhibitin, publicatin, r reprductin made f, r at, the event in any medium, whether nw knwn r hereafter created, r cntext fr any purpse, including cmmercial r prmtinal purpses, withut further authrizatin r cmpensatin. H. LOGO USAGE Teams will nt be allwed t use any Varsity Spirit Brand lg including: banners, rings, bws, t-shirts, etc. withut prir apprval frm the Varsity Spirit ffice. The use f the brand letters will be allwed. II. BAND DANCE/TIME-OUT DANCE CATEGORY A. ROUTINE AND JUDGING REQUIREMENTS: Each team will perfrm a rutine nt t exceed 1 minute and 15 secnds. Band Dance/Time-Out Dance (Spirit Teams) must be made up f at least 50% cheerleaders. Nn-cheer teams may participate (i.e. sng/pm r dance), but may nt cmprise mre than 50% f the ttal team numbers. Band Dance/Time-Out Dance (Sng/Pm Squads and Dance Teams) may nt have any members f the cheerleading squad in their rutine. A team may begin n r ff the perfrmance flr fr the start f their music. Once the team name is called and the music begins, timing f the verall rutine starts. Timing will end with the last beat f music r rganized mvement. Any dance style that is apprpriate fr a time-ut situatin within a sideline cheer setting is acceptable (i.e. jazz, pm, hip hp, etc.). Camp material may easily be adapted t fit this categry. Sideline/traditinal schl unifrms are required. Pms are the nly prps permitted. Judging will be based n the fllwing criteria, as well as elements nted n the scresheet: Creativity and musicality, variety and the executin f transitins and frmatins. Placement, synchrnizatin and strength f mtins/mvement. Visual effect and spacing. Overall impressin and crwd appeal. Emphasis will be n audience apprpriateness and appeal. This is a perfrmance-based divisin. Crwd leading cmpnents will nt be judged. Thematic rutines and/r specialized cstuming is nt encuraged. B. SPECIFIC SKILL RESTRICTIONS BAND DANCE/TIME-OUT DANCE CATEGORY

5 Tumbling and/r stunting f any kind is prhibited, including during entrances and exits. Dance skills (i.e. turns, leaps, kicks, etc.) are permitted. III. GAME SITUATION/TIME-OUT CHEER CATEGORY (2 elements t this rutine) A. ROUTINE AND JUDGING REQUIREMENTS: Each team will respnd t a game situatin (presented by the annuncer), fllwed by a secnd element f a crwd-riented time ut cheer/chant/traditinal yell/drum cadence, etc. nt t exceed 1 minute and 15 secnds in ttal rutine length fr the tw elements that are required. Game Situatin/Time-Out Cheer will begin with the presentatin f a game situatin. Timing starts nce the situatin has been presented and ends at the cnclusin f the secnd element f the rutine -- the time-ut cheer sectin f the rutine. (this is the verall end f the rutine) The team must start their rutine ff the mat fr the reading f their game situatin. Once the situatin is read, timing begins as the team takes the flr t respnd t the situatin. N music may be used during the perfrmance. Live drummer and/r drum track is allwed. All specialty skills (i.e. jumps, stunts and/r tumbling) must be perfrmed within a safe distance f all drummers. Drummers cannt be invlved in any type f specialty skill and must be psitined ff the cheerleading mat. Each team s time-ut cheer presentatin (the secnd element f the verall rutine) must include at least ne cmpnent required frm the fllwing: cheers, chants, traditinal yells, and/r drum cadences. Teams shuld utilize all areas f their squad s crwd-leading strengths. The use f pms, signs, flags, megaphnes and/r banners is required. Judging will be based n the fllwing criteria, as well as elements nted n the scresheet: Crwd cmmunicatin, including; crwd effective material, spacing and frmatins, vice and pace, crwd leading skills and use f pms, signs, flags, megaphnes and/r banners. Placement, synchrnizatin and strength f mtins. Overall impressin and crwd appeal. Emphasis n crwd invlvement and practicality. All material shuld be suitable fr a game r pep rally. B. SPECIFIC SKILL RESTRICTIONS GAME SITUATION/TIME-OUT CHEER CATEGORY N baskets, spnge, elevatr, r similar type tsses permitted. N stunt/pyramid inversins are allwed. N twisting dismunts are allwed. Single leg extended stunts are limited t liberties and liberty hitches. N running tumbling is allwed. Standing tumbling is limited t standing back handspring(s) and/r standing back tuck(s).

6 IV. FIGHT SONG CATEGORY A. ROUTINE AND JUDGING REQUIREMENTS: Each team will perfrm a rutine nt t exceed 1 minute and 15 secnds. Teams are encuraged t use their traditinal schl fight sng. Timing will begin with the first rganized mvement, vice r nte music, whichever cmes first. Timing will end with the last beat f music r rganized mvement. Prps (pms, signs, flags, megaphnes and/r banners) are permitted in this categry. Perfrmances can incrprate up t three (3) eight cunts f skills (stunts, tumbling and/r jumps). The three (3) eight cunts must be cnsecutive and the same three (3) eight cunts can be repeated if the fight sng is repeated. The three (3) eight cunts f skills includes lading int and dismunting frm stunts (unless the rutine finishes in a stunt/pyramid). Judging will be based n the fllwing criteria, as well as elements nted n the scresheet: Crwd riented material, fit t music, using effective spacing and frmatins, and incrprating visual effects. Placement, synchrnizatin and strength f mtins. Overall impressin and crwd appeal. Emphasis will be placed n practicality. All material shuld be suitable and able t be perfrmed multiple times during a game r pep rally. B. SPECIFIC SKILL RESTRICTIONS FIGHT SONG CATEGORY N baskets, spnge, elevatr, r similar type tsses permitted N stunt/pyramid inversins are allwed N twisting dismunts are allwed Single leg extended stunts are limited t liberties and liberty hitches. A jump is cnsidered a skill and can nly be perfrmed in the three (3) eight cunt segment A kick will nt be cnsidered as a skill and can be perfrmed at any time during the rutine N running tumbling is allwed. Standing tumbling is limited t standing back handspring(s) and/r standing back tuck(s). Rev. 10/27/17
