Favorable Report for Annual Grant of $100,000 for 10 year Perod APPROPRATON-OF FUNDS An extra meetng of the nsttute Commttee was held n the Unon, Tuesday afternoon at 4.30 o'clock. The frst matter consdered was the appropraton of the $200 now on hand n they nsttute Comm. treasury. t was decded to gve $150 to the athletc assocaton and to loan the Tech Show $50. The executve commttee of the nsttute Commttee has made an nvestgaton of the rregulartes of the recent electon of the "1913 Technque Electoral Commttee" and has found that a great deal of poltcs was connected wth t. Several men grouped together for the purpose of gettng elected, and dd all n ther power to further that purpose, sendng personal notes to members of the class requestng these members to vote for them, and n other ways, not to be here mentoned, brngng poltcs nto the electon. The executve commttee brought ths to the attenton of, the Electoral Commttee and they themselves after a long and heated meetng demanded the resgnaton of all men who confessed to any rregulartes. n vew of ths a moton was passed by the nsttute Commttee,"that the nsttutecommttee express the greatest dsapproval of the poltcs as evdence n the electon for the 1913 Technque Electoral Commttee and that had not the Electoral Commttee taken the acton t dd, n demandng certan resgnatons, after the facts of the poltcal work had been brought to ts attenton by the nsttute Commttee, the nsttute Commttee would have demanded another electon. Upon a recommendaton by the executve commttee t was decded that the treasurers of each class should publsh a report of ther fnances n "The Tech" once every term. A long dscusson was held n regard to the conduct n the Unon and a moton was passed that any men found gulty of rowdysm, breakng chars, stealng song books, tearng artcles from magaznes and stealng them outrght, and wearng hats n the readng, card, and lvng rooms be g'ven a vote of censure by the nsttute Commttee on the frst offense and be debarred from the Unon on the second offense and hs name be publshed n "The Teche". The meetng adjournd at 6.00 P. M. NEW TECH SONG MAKES-' HT N CONCERTS Openng the program wth the new song, "Our Technology", by E. C. Vose, '11 and O. B. Dennson, '11, the muscal clubs gave one of the mnost: successful concerts of the year at Maugus Hall n Wellesley Hlls, Tuesday nght. Specal cars were run between Wellesley and Wellesley Hlls and, the mdnght tran back to Boston was held to accomodate the large crowd of:tech men who attended the concert. After the muscal program was rendered a dance was held. The Clubs left Boston agan at nne o'clock Wednesday mornng for Northampton where they gave a concert last nght before a large 'audence. The program here, too, began wth the new Tech song. Other numbers-were "Madame Sherry", "The Gypsy Prnce and "The Teddy Bears Pcnc" by the Mandoln Club; "The Flash Gallop" by the Banjo Quntette; "Wanted, A Wfe" and "The Cat Wth The Bartone", by the Quartette; and "The Dxe Kd" and "The Sten Song", by the Gllee Cub. Harry Brggs gave two readngs and O. W. Wlson, '11, was loudly encored on hs solo. The most mportant home game for Weslyan at Mddletown. Both teams the Tech Basket Ball team was played played evenly, but the home team proved last nght n the Gym when Dartmouth tself the better of the two. The Weslyan defeated the nsttute by a score of 35 to 8. players were evry successful n long shots. The home team worked hard, but for Ther Coach pronounced t the fastest some reason were not able to put up as game played on ther floor ths season. good a game as they have heretofore. Despte the tradtons handed down of 40,000 Alumn of the Massachusetts nsttute of Technology, dsregardng the opnon of practcally the entre Undergraduate student body, a movement has just started by Wllam C. Salsbury, of Chcago, 1911, to abolsh the famous Technology cheer-"we Are Happy Tech s H-". Never before n the hstory of ths famous school of appled scence has such a drastc move even been attempted by one of ts own students. Wllam C. Salsbury s consdered the best athlete at the nsttute and holds the record for the 440 yard dash ndoor track record-, besdes leadng n the Thomas DuPont Cup competton whch was started last fall. Salsbury s anactve man n all undergraduate affars at Technology and has always held offces of trust and responsblty n varous organzatons ever snce hs entrance as a freshman four years ago. -Ths plan "Bll" Salsbury has taken upon hs shoulders to reform the present undergarduate body of the Massachusetts nsttute of Technology and showed to the 40,000 loyal sons of hs Alma Mater that they were vulgar and profane durng ther four years at the nsttute-s beyond the magnatons of the present student body. Just why Salsbury should strke out apparently sngle handed to abandon a yell that has been handed down by generaton and generaton of Tech men s the queston that s puzzlng the 1,500 students now at the nsttute. The movement apparently s as unpopular among the student body as t s radcal. No where among the four classes of the school can the opnon be found that the yell chould be abolshed. Colleges the world over, students clam, have yells smlar to Technology's "We Are Happy-Tech s H-". A careful canvass of the four class of the nsttute revealed a strong opposton to the movement to stamp out Technology's tradtonal college yell. Alumn on all sdes are lookng aghast at ths one undergradute. The 1,500 of the undergraduate student body are askng n doubt what s next. t wll take a lot to eradcate ths famous college yell s the mass opnon of the junor class 1912 at the nsttute. Never." Among the entre student body there was only one man who stated that t would be a good thng to abolsh the yell. T. E. Kemp, Roxbury 1912 one of the mot promnent men n the junor class and at the present tme a member of the prom. commttee. The dnner was served n one of the small dnng rooms, Presdent S. M. Schmdt presdng, and ts at close a most nterestng talk was gven by Mr. H. W. Clark, Chef Chemst of the state of Massachusetts. Mr. Clark took for hs subject "The Varous Methods of Water Treatment and Purfcaton" and began wth a bref outlne of the hstory of ths branch of Santary Scence, and sad that much of the progress n ths lne was due to the work of Dr. Drown, and Professor Nchols, formerly connected wth the nsttute, and to the very able work of Professor Sedgwck. The oldest method of Water Purfcaton was Storage, whch mples the collecton of the water n large mpoundng resevors where, through the acton of sunlght, oxdzaton, sedmentaton etc. the bactera are klled and the water s purfed. A suffcent length of tme for these processes to go on s essental to the proper purfcaton of the water. n the cty of Lawrence, Mass., where typhod epdemcs have been of frequent occurrence, t was found neccessary to store the water for a perod of twenty days before usng, snce t was found that though a perod of sx days was suffcent to kll the B. Col, that Typhod Bacll could lve for a perod of twelve days. A second method of water purfcaton s that of Slow Sand Fltraton, whch frst came nto use n ths country twentyfve years ago. The musc wll be furnshed by Alexander's Orchestra, whch s a well-known one and plays well. Refreshments wll be served n a sde room after the eghth dance. Ths affar s practcally the only mportant socal event here before the Junor Prom. so a large number of men from all classes should be present. The commttee made the prce of tckets as low as possble, -seventy-fve cents,-realzng that at ths tme of year the men are lkely to be short of money. The tckets are are now ready, and may be obtaned from any of the offcers or non-commssoned offcers, and the commttee would lke that all men ntendng to go to procure tckets as soon as possble n order that the number gong maylbe known-some tme n advance. All men n the battalon who have unforms that are presentabl and who are gong, are urged to wear them to the dance,/but the men of the other classes are not to consder the hop as a strctly formal affar.
