1 20 August 2015 I Wet Weather Line Head of Sport and Activities Mr Dave Capra AFL Season Finals Fever! Last weekend saw the final game of the regular season for our Under 12 Green, Under 12 Blue and Under 13 AFL teams. After 16 games and 20 weeks of training, there will certainly be for the Green team and the Under 13s time for a very well earned break for the players, coaches, managers and parents alike. As a new school we find great sporting opportunities across school, club and community contexts where our boys can realise and achieve their own personal excellence. Club AFL has been an sensational experience for our boys and this is due largely to the support structures around the players in each team. Whilst the our junior teams have still got two games to go in their regular season as they do not have finals, I would like to thank the following people for providing such an enjoyable season for our boys! Under 9 Under 10 Under 11 Under 12 Green Under 12 Blue Under 13 Liam Turner, Steve Brennan, Dwayne Allan, Brett Cashmere Jordan McDonald, Kristian Delaney, Scott Hewson, Brett Cashmere Sam Mulherin, Jye Savage, Darren Pfeiffer, Scott Meekin, Lawrie Gordon Brea Koenan, Ed Hooper, Scott Hewson, Bill Ellis Chris Hoskin, Ben Allen-Ankins, Matt Snare Tim Sparkman, Joe Gorman, Brendan Newell, John-Michael Downey In addition to this there have been countless parents who have volunteered on game day through a whole host of on and off field support roles which has made this season a reality. Our thanks to all who have given of their time and energy to support our AFL program. It would be remiss not to acknowledge Fiona Kearney our AFL Admin and Integrity Officer whose hard work, thoroughness and passion has ensured the delivery of a quality AFL program in 2015! Thanks Fiona! Our Under 12 Blue team have hopefully got a few good weeks of footy ahead of them. After narrowly losing to Sherwood over the weekend the boys finished 2nd in Under 12 Division 2 competition and go into first semi final this Sunday against Redcliffe. If the are successful they will go through to the major semi and then hopefully the Grand Final on Saturday 12 September. If you are in Wynnum at 8.30am on Sunday morning your support at this match will be greatly appreciated! We wish all the players and coaches Chris Hoskin and Ben Allen Ankins the very best of luck for the finals series ahead of them. Last year our Under 12 team came second and it would be great to see the Blues go one better! Cricket Our Term 4 cricket pre-season begins next Monday 24 August and we look forward to seeing lots of our boys at training if their winter sport timetable permits. Term 4 Cricket at ATC is participation based, not graded and a great opportunity for players of all levels of ability to get involved. A reminder with instructions for registering has been sent to all parents this week and as nominations are due to Brisbane North this weekend, registrations need to be finalised ASAP. Best of luck to everyone involved in ATC Sport and Activities this weekend!

2 Athletic Performance Coordinator Mr Luke Donatini Metropolitan West Regional Trials AMBROSE TREACY COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD This coming week will be an exciting week for ATC Track & Field with 22 of our athletes (aged 10 to 14) competing at the Metropolitan West Regional Track & Field Trials, QSAC, Nathan. Note: Registration cost and competition costs are all covered by Ambrose Treacy College providing that the athlete/student is currently participating in College track & field training sessions. ATC Athletes 10 Years and Older Ipswich Athletics 34th Winter Carnival We would like ALL 10 years and older ATC students who have expressed a keen interest in participating in the 2015 ATC Track & Field program to seriously consider competing on Sunday 30 August at the Ipswich Athletics 34th Winter Carnival. It would be fantastic to see Ambrose Treacy College well represented at this event. 4 ATC Cricket Coordinator Mr Brett Henschell Sport News Cricket Registrations for ATC Term 4 Junior Club Cricket are streaming in which is great to see. 130 boys are currently registered. The closing date has been extended to 31 August 2015 to provide additional time for parents with boys heavily involved with winter sports to complete the process online via This date cannot be extended further as the College needs to nominate teams to the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association. It is difficult to enter additional teams once all clubs have nominated their teams and the draw has been devised and it would reflect poorly on the College if allowance was to be made for additional registrations after the closing date and they did not eventuate, causing teams to be withdrawn. Term 4 cricket is open to all boys, regardless of experience or ability, and every boy who wishes to play cricket will be placed in a team. This is an opportunity for boys to play with their mates in a participation model in a competitive environment. It is a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all. The first cricket fixture will be played on 10 October 2015, the first Saturday back to school in Term 4. This permits only one team training session to be conducted before taking the field. To assist players prepare for the season, a Cricket Coaching Clinic will be held on campus exclusively for ATC students September 2015 inclusive. Please see the Flyer at the bottom of this newsletter for details. This Clinic will set the foundation for play in the Term 4 season and concentrate on building individual and team skills whilst having fun and enjoying the game. Every effort will be made to place boys in their proposed teams with their mates and intended Term 4 coach. Boys must book in to attend. The fourteen hours of coaching and practice at this Clinic is greater than the entire time available for team training sessions during the Term and attendance is worth considering if you are able. Eleven ATC boys attended the first West Taylor Bridge 12 years and under cricket trial at BBC on Monday and all eleven made it through to the second trial this coming Monday. 60 boys attended from schools in the region and for our 11 boys to make the cut of 24 is a great achievement. Congratulations to all the boys and best wishes for next week. Come & Try Cricket Sessions conducted at Jack Bowers Oval will be finishing up this week. Boys have a lot on their plate at the moment and these sessions will be discontinued after Friday, 21 August Last chance for boys to win a prize for being the best performer at the various activities!

5 Rugby Union Mr Dave Capra Last Saturday saw ATC teams playing great rugby at TSS and at home. With two very narrow losses and a win against TSS it is great to see that our boys are well and truly holding their own against the boys from Southport. In narrow losses it often comes down to concentration, ultimately the team who wins the game is often the one which is able to maintain focus for the longest period of time. This was certainly the case with the 13A team who fought back against a strong Scots team to lead 38 to 33 with a minute to go. A strong run down the blindside off a penalty caught our boys unawares and with a try under the posts, the conversion was a fait accompli and our boys went down This weekend we will be challenging our lads to maintain focus for the entirety of the match, to support each other in all aspects of the game ad to finish their seasons as strongly as they started. Congratulations to all of our rugby players and coaches for a great round of rugby over the weekend and best of luck for the weekend ahead. 8 TRIATHLON ATC Aquatics Coordinator Mr Paul Jones It s been a fantastic start for the Tri program. The squad is now into its third week of training and we have had over 10 athletes at each of the tri sessions held so far and we expect this number to grow once more boys finish up their winter sport commitments. Term 3 is the build phase of the program where we are looking to build the aerobic fitness of the squad and develop good technique in the 4 legs of the sport; swim, bike, run and transition. Already I can see some improvement across the squad and we are having some good FUN as well! Our next fortnightly Saturday training session is this Saturday 22 nd August (8.45am to 10.00am) at the college pool. We will be swimming, biking (on the wind trainer) and running. Saturday sessions are FAMILY SESSIONS and family members are welcome to join in with the squad. I will also be available to meet parents after this session from 10.00am to 10.30am. BYO Coffee! We will be scheduling some Group Ride Sessions once we have squad members registered as Triathlon Queensland & TRIPLE FFF Members. A How To Join TQ Guide will be distributed to parents shortly. Our first planned Targeted Event is the Moreton Bay Triathlon on Sunday 6 th September 2015 at Redcliffe. A Parent Information Sheet on this event will be distributed to parents shortly. Triathlon Queensland & TRIPLE FFF Members will be eligible to contest the Triathlon Queensland Sprint Distance Championships at this event. If you would like any more information about the tri program please Mr Jones at aquatics@atc.qld.edu.au Graham Fidler ATC Triathlon Coach

9 ATC AFL Admin and Integrity Officer Mrs Fiona Kearney Firstly I would like to correct last weeks newsletter that stated the Under 13 s were defeated when in fact they actually won their hard fought contest. Against the Moreton Bay Lions. Well done Boys. I am running out of superlatives to describe the weekend in AFL. There was no shortage of spectacular moments across the age groups last weekend. With many boys playing up a year level to help fill the void left by injured players. Thanks to all those boys who filled in for an extra game or two, and to their wonderful parents who made it possible. The Under 13s played their last game and this was one of their best, against the topside Coorparoo they showed just how far they have come since the start of the season /0.3-3 The Under 12 Greens also played out their final game for What an outstanding final game for the boys against Zillmere They ran out to the end and can hold their heads high with the effort they displayed / The Under 12 Blues: with almost every reason not to win, the boys put on a spirited comeback against Sherwood over the last half to go down by 8 points. With players injured before the game the boys were always going to do it tough. The boys now face Redcliffe in a knockout final this Sunday / The Under 11 s : Another Sherwood contest and once again a classy game of football for these gentlemen. With only one defeat this season this team will be one to watch as it enters Youth football next year / The Under 10 s: Also Played Sherwood this week, a physical game which the boys responded well to displaying good ball movement from one end of the field to the other. The Under 9 s: Were undermanned due to illness and Qld Catholic College Music Festival, our boys played a wonderful game learning how to get the ball and help each other out. Training Next Week Training continues as usual next week for Under 9 s,10 s and 11 s We hope Under 12 Blues will still be in contention for Finals after this weekend and training will continue at Chelmer Tuesday and Thursday pm Semi Finals This game is a must win for The Under 12 Blues team so your support is encouraged. We invite you all to wear our Irish Warriors colours to the game and bring as many loud family and friends as possible to encourage our boys. The game is at 8.30 am Sunday 23rd August as 300 Kianawah Rd Wynnum West.
