2 Schl Start Times Explratin PSD is explring the pssibility f changing schl start times fr the schl year Research indicates that high schl students perfrm better and are safer when they get mre sleep American Medical Assciatin (AMA) recmmends start times f 8:30am r later PSD s current start times range frm 7:25-8:15am at the secndary level PSD recgnizes that start and end times have a brad impact in ur cmmunity

7 Transprtatin Backgrund Infrmatin Key Transprtatin Facts: 1,900 square miles: Area served by PSD s 4 bus terminal lcatins 600 runs and 128 rutes: The number f rutes and runs daily supprting PSD s three-tired bussing system $100,000: Cst t purchase 1 bus $37,000: Cst t run 1 rute (including salary, benefits, maintenance, and fuel)

8 Transprtatin Backgrund Infrmatin Key Transprtatin Facts: Tiered rutes are efficient. Using tiered rutes allws PSD t use ne bus fr multiple runs. Hiring and retaining bus drivers is challenging. PSD ffers ne f the highest rates f pay in the state, but it is difficult t retain drivers. Due t driver shrtages, all staff in the Transprtatin Department with CDL drivers licenses are asked t drive rutes. This is nt a sustainable practice.

10 Scenaris Selected fr Cnsideratin Current Start Times Earlier than the start times recmmended by the American Medical Assciatin (AMA) and thers Maintaining these times wuld have little impact n the system, requiring n change fr families/staff PSD will need t add ~3 rutes t accmmdate grwth even if start times are nt changed This will cst apprximately $411,000 in year 1 (cst t purchase busses included) and $111,000 in nging peratins (nt including the cst t add grwth rutes in future years)
