1 Junir Pre-Seasn Newsletter Welcme t the cricket seasn at the Wenduree Cricket Club. Club Web Site The Wenduree Cricket Club web site has everything yu need t knw abut playing cricket fr WCC, it is a fantastic resurce and is regularly updated with imprtant cricketing infrmatin including dates, match reprts and club news. Please ensure yu have the app n yur phne s yu dn t miss vital infrmatin including last minute venue changes fr games and training updates. Many Parents will already have the Team App dwnladed frm last seasn r frm fty, netball r sccer clubs. If yu have the app, simply search Wenduree Cricket Club and register with ur club. If yu d nt have the app, search Team App in the itunes stre r at Ggle play fr yur Andrid phne. This app allws WCC t cmmunicate with parents f specific teams r all the junirs in a timely way. Age Grup changes fr The Ballarat Cricket Assciatin (BCA) have changed the age grupings this year. There will be: Page 1

2 U17 and U15 Saturday mrning games The structure t these games remains the same, just the age grups have changed t be in-keeping with ther sprting cmpetitins U13 s Friday night games Same structure as last year Girls stage 1 and 2 Friday night games Stage 1 will play with a sft incredi-ball and the rules will be mdified t suit players newer t the game. Stage 2 will play a game the same cnditins and rules as the U13 bys. They will play with a hard 142g ball and with a reduced pitch length as used in the U13 bys grup in Under 12 after schl Wednesday nights Same rules as last year Wenduree will als ffer: Cricket blast- junir blasters n Sunday mrnings. Frmerly called mil cricket fr bys and girls ages 5-7 years WCC Team selectin prcess WCC are frtunate t have a team f dedicated caches that wrk tirelessly thugh the winter t select the best team fr each WCC junir cricketer. An individual assessment f each child is cmpleted in cnsultatin with their cach frm last year and ur junir crdinatrs t facilitate infrmed placement f each player int a team that will suit them the best. This will cnsider their cricketing ability, leadership skills, friendship grups and cmpatibility within a team structure. Caches want t ensure every junir has an ptimal cricketing experience in a safe and apprpriate envirnment. The Junir Crdinatrs and caches have already met n several ccasins and spent hundreds f hurs in the ff seasn assessing each child, discussing their prgress and develpment needs and frmatting team lists. The need t challenge kids s they keep develping while nt crushing their cnfidence is a balancing act that we are cnstantly mnitring. As with previus seasns, there will be sme tweaking f the team lists in the first mnth f the seasn as we find the right niche fr each child in ur prgram. Page 2

There is a waiting list f kids wanting t play at Wenduree and we will be finalising teams sn! 2017/18 Teams We intend t field the fllwing teams fr the upcming seasn (t be cnfirmed as the change in age grups may affect the cmpsitin) and will advise the cmpsitin f players in each team clser t the seasn cmmencement: Under 17 3 Teams (2 x 1 sts & 1 x 2 nds teams) Under 15 3 Teams (2 x 1 sts & 1 x 2 nds teams) Under 13 3 teams Under 12 3 teams Girls stage 1 1 team Girls stage 2 1 team Parental Supprt/Cntributin Many hands make light wrk Parental engagement and supprt at ur club is ne thing that we pride urselves n. We have many cmmitted parents wh are happy t take n varius rles, but we are always lking fr extra help with frmal rles such as caching and small infrmal tasks (scring, cking a BBQ, and cllating a list f names fr the Big Bash trip) that help spread the lad. If yu are interested in assisting in any capacity (n cricket knwledge r backgrund needed fr many f the rles) please cntact us and we can find a rle that suits yur skill set and available time. 4 As yu can see frm the numbers abve, we have well in excess f 130 kids in ur junir prgram (prbably arund 170 when we include the kids in cricket blast). This is the largest Junir Cricket prgram in Ballarat and requires a huge cmmitment t maintain. Yur supprt each week (particularly n game days) with scring, helping with warm ups, setting up bundary markers, ffering assistance t the caches, prviding a healthy mrning tea and just hanging arund t supprt the kids is vital t the success f ur club. The kids get much mre enjyment ut f their cricket when they have parents there watching them, the caches are supprted and we cntinue t build ur Redcaps tribe when parents engage with their child s team and are there t watch their kids play and help ut. We understand that everyne is busy. Families ften have multiple kids playing a variety f sprts at different lcatins, but scheduling regular time t be at yur child s cricket games and helping ut in sme small capacity is very rewarding. 7 Annual registratin fees We will be using the My Cricket electrnic Registratin/Payment system again this year. A link and instructins can be fund under the Junirs Tab n the Wenduree Cricket Club website The Fees fr 2018/19 will be: Girls and bys Wlwrths cricket blast (frmerly mil cricket) Girls and bys U12 s (Wednesday after schl cmp) - $95 Girls Stage 1 and 2- $95 U13 s, U14 s & U16 s - $200 (Click n links abve fr direct access t registratin page) The fees are all inclusive n nging weekly csts fr ball mney, umpires, raffles r fundraisers. This seasn all Junir players will receive a FREE 2 game membership package t the Melburne Renegades as part f their Wenduree Junir membership All players must be registered and fees paid befre the first game r yu are nt cvered by insurance and under the BCA Rules, yu are ineligible t play. If yur circumstances d nt allw yu t pay the full amunt up frnt, please speak t Natarsha Williams t wrk ut an alternative. Family Discunt This year we will be again ffering a Family Discunt t recgnize the significant financial cntributin that sme families make t the club. Please nte this des nt include Cricket blast, girls cricket r under 12 s cricket registratins as they are already ffered at a reduced rate. This discunt will be Child 1 - $200 (n discunt) Child 2 - $180 ($20 discunt) Child 3 - $160 ($40 discunt) Page 7

Junir clthing is again available this year thrugh Hip Pcket Wrk Wear in Hwitt Street. The first rder has nw clsed. If yu still require clthing, depending n numbers and interest, we may be able t rganize a secnd rder but this will NOT arrive befre the start f the seasn. Scring is prbably the single mst imprtant jb that needs t be dne each week withut scrers, games cannt prceed. It s nt a difficult task, is reasnably easy t pick up and there are always peple arund wh can teach yu and help yu ut. There are always 2 scrers (1 frm each team) s yu are never n yur wn. Cricket Australia has made sme fairly significant upgrades t their MyCricket Scring App. The app is nw much easier t use and imprtantly fr us, allws fr the Split Innings frmat that we use in mst f ur junirs. This will allw us t scre using an ipad, mbile phne r tablet fr all ur junir games if we wish. Anyne interested in having a lk at the new app can dwnlad it fr free here. DOWNLOAD ON ios DOWNLOAD ON ANDROID There are 2 ptins fr the electrnic scring, we can scre electrnically and sync the scres t the MyCricket website after each ver (if yu have a htspt r internet cnnectin via yur ipad r tablet) r we can scre electrnically but ff line and then sync all the data when yu get hme and Page 8

Either way, it will save lts f data entry time n a Saturday afternn and will give the kids and caches much mre infrmatin abut the number f balls they have faced etc. We will run sme training sessins fr scring (manually in the bks and electrnically) early in the seasn. Please cme alng and see hw easy it actually is Big Bash Trip The annual Wenduree Junirs bus trip dwn t the Big Bash game will be held n Thursday 20 th December Put the date in yur calendar and we will prvide mre inf clser t the date. Renegades membership Cricket Withut Bundaries (CWB) Thank yu t everyne wh has dnated generusly t Cricket Withut Bundaries in the past. We will be again be cllecting any pre-lved and n lnger needed cricket gear t distribute t thers less frtunate than urselves arund the wrld. We wuld als like t cllect any pairs f runners than still have sme use left in them, please. The WCC Website has lts f infrmatin abut the Cricket Withut Bundaries prgram that the club supprts In the past we have dnated gear t numerus indigenus cmmunities in the Nrthern Territry. We have even sent sme kits t an rphanage in India and t cricketers in Vanuatu. Twenty-fur bxes f gear are packed ready t be shipped t Bangladesh as sn as the final arrangements can be made. Page 9
