Whether yu ve been invlved with rugby fr many years r if this is yur first year f rugby, we hpe that the seasn will prve t be an exciting and rewarding ne. And fr thse new t rugby, we hpe that yur invlvement may be the start f a life-lng enjyment f the game fr yur child. Many f ur past and present players will attest t the strng friendships they have made, the cnfidence, fitness and team skills they develped, and the many pprtunities and experiences that pened up fr them as they mved thrugh the grades. It allws them t learn new skills (reference: accessed Feb 12) With this in mind, let s make this seasn that ur yung players will enjy and remember. ABOUT THE CLUB Palmerstn Rugby Unin Club was ne f the funding clubs f the Nrthern Territry Rugby Unin, fielding teams in the riginal 1976/77 seasn. Back then, the city f Palmerstn did nt exist the club was named after the riginal settlement in Darwin. In 1984 the club relcated suth f the Berrimah line, and in ding s became the first majr sprting rganisatin t call Palmerstn hme. The club cnsists f bth junir and senir teams. It has had many successes ver the years, including premiership wins acrss all senir grades, a significant presence in representative teams and a successful junir prgram. Prbably the club s greatest achievement hwever, has been the many peple that have made up the club the players, the supprters and vlunteers. Our club fsters a strng cmmunity spirit, it is a nn-prfit rganisatin and it is run entirely by vlunteers. It has thrived fr s many years thanks t the valuable cntributin f all thse invlved. CODE OF CONDUCT Rugby has always been a game that prides itself f fair play and enjyment fr all (ARU) Please ensure that yu are familiar with the Expectatins f Behaviur Guidelines prvided by Australian Rugby Unin (ARU). These can be fund in the appendices f this handbk. The club endrses these Expectatins and requires that they be adhered t at all times. Page 5

6 THE JUNIOR RUGBY COMPETITION JUNIOR TEAMS PRUC Junirs Handbk 2015 We field teams in all age grups f the junir cmpetitin. Teams and age grups are as fllws: Under 5 Under 7 Under 9 Under 11 Under 13 Under 15 Under On field playing numbers fr teams are as fllws: Under 5 Under 7 Under 9 Under 11 Under 13 Under 15 Under TRAINING Training is held at ur hme grund n Tuesdays and Thursdays frm 5:15-6:15pm. Rugby is a team game and all players are required t attend training, bth fr their wn develpment and fr that f the team. Please nte that supervisin is nt available utside f training times and respnsibility will nt be taken fr players prir t r after these times. Children wh are nt participating in a training sessin are the respnsibility f their parent / carer. FRIDAY NIGHT GAMES The Darwin cmpetitin is rganised by the Nrthern Territry Rugby Unin (NTRU). Games are held at Rugby Park and Warren Park, Marrara, n Friday nights frm 6pm nwards. Refer t the draw fr game times and field allcatin. We play against junir teams fielded by ther teams in the Darwin cmpetitin: Casuarina Cugars, Darwin Dragns, Suth Darwin, Swampdgs and University Pirates. The TryRugby Kids Pathway prvides age-specific games which prgressively develp the individual and team skills f all players. The rules f the game vary accrding t age level. 7 PRUC Junirs Handbk 2015 The U5, U7 and U9 cmpetitin is played in a rund rbin frmat. Finals are nt played. U11, U13, U15 and U17 play ff fr final placings at the end f the seasn. Caches will endeavur t give all players the same amunt f game time, given players reasnable cmmitment t training. This als includes participatin in the finals (where applicable). Please let yur cach/manager knw if yur child is unable t make a Friday night game. RUGBY PARK In the interest f supprting junir rugby, gate fees are NOT charged n Friday nights. Over the seasn, this represents a cnsiderable saving t all families. Please remember this, and respect the NTRU s rules and regulatins cncerning Rugby Park (refer belw). Rugby Park is a licenced venue and it is a regulatin n entry that alchl must nt be bught int Rugby Park at any time. Offenders may be asked t leave and penalties may be impsed n clubs whse club members are nt abiding by this regulatin. JUNIOR 7s In term 4 the club hsts a five week Junir 7s Turnament at ur hme grund at Mulden Oval. All clubs are invited t participate. Training is held n Tuesday nights and games are played n Friday nights. N further registratin fees are payable t participate in the turnament. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION, FROM A t Z CALENDAR PRUC Junirs Handbk 2015 Our club calendar is updated regularly and can be accessed n the club website r via Team App. Updates t the calendar will be advised in Crc Tales, n the club website and via Team App. CLOTHING / EQUIPMENT Club jerseys: these are handed ut prir t the each Friday night game. These are then cllected after the game and washed by a vlunteer in readiness fr the fllwing week. Club shrts and scks: shrts and scks are included in the registratin fees. All players MUST wear these fr Friday night games. Ftwear: Under 5 and Under 7 players may play in sprts shes (jggers/runners/sneakers) r ftball bts with mulded sles. Under 9 players and abve play in ftball bts. Muthguard: Under 9 players and abve must wear a muthguard bth at training and during the games. A fact sheet abut muthguards frm the NT Oral Health Services has been included in the appendices. Refer t the fact sheet fr details n btaining a muthguard. Head Gear, shulder pads etc: These items are ptinal. When purchasing these items, please ensure that they are IRB apprved (as indicated by the IRB apprval mark). Additinal clthing and merchandising, such as supprter pl shirts and caps, are available fr purchase frm The Crc Shp. CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES The club had a licenced clubhuse which is pen n training nights (frm 5pm) and hme games. The clubhuse kitchen is utilised fr club functins and ther fd preparatin (eg fr fundraising bbqs etc.). The clubhuse is an imprtant part f the club. Club members and bna fide guests are welcme t drp int the clubhuse at any time. The clubhuse is managed and maintained by club vlunteers. Yur assistance in helping keep it clean and tidy is appreciated! Players are asked t remve their bts befre entering the clubhuse t ensure the timber laminate flring is nt damaged. The clubhuse is als available fr hire at very reasnable rates. Enquire at the clubhuse bar fr further details. Page 8

9 CLUB NIGHTS AND CLUB FUNCTIONS PRUC Junirs Handbk 2015 A seasn launch is held at the beginning f the seasn t welcme club vlunteers t the seasn. All families are very welcme t attend. Club nights are held apprximately fur times thrughut the seasn. All families are encuraged t attend. Meals are served in the clubhuse and families have the pprtunity t meet ther club members in a relaxed family setting while enjying their meal. Senir hme games are held at varius times thrugh the seasn. Junir families are welcme t cme alng and supprt these games. The club runs a BBQ at all hme games. Presentatin Night is held at the end f the seasn fr all players and their families. Further details are prvided clser t the date. COACHES AND MANAGERS All teams require a cach and a manager. These are vlunteer rles (ften parents) and it ges withut saying that these rles are essential t yur child s participatin in rugby! COMMITTEE The club, bth junirs and senirs, is administered by the club cmmittee. The cmmittee generally meets at the clubhuse n the first Mnday f each mnth, with the meeting cmmencing at 6pm. Current cmmittee members are listed n ur website: Cmmittee members are vlunteers and the cntributin f junir parents t the cmmittee is welcmed and encuraged. The AGM is held n the first Sunday in Nvember; hwever interested club members are welcme t attend meetings as they ccur. COMMUNICATION The club keeps members in the lp in a number f ways, as listed n the fllw page. CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT The Australian Rugby Unin prvides guidance regarding cncussin which applies t everyne invlved in Rugby acrss Australia. All fees must be paid in full by the start f the seasn (i.e. by the cmmencement f Friday night games). Fees must all be paid in full befre club shrts, scks and singlets can be cllected. We are registered with the NT Gvernment Sprt Vucher Scheme and accept the $100 vuchers. FUNDRAISING As a club, we strngly believe in the value f yung peple being invlved in sprt and we significantly reduce ur fees t encurage participatin. We rely n ur valued spnsrs and nging fundraising effrts thrughut the seasn t cver the csts required t put players n the field. 11 PRUC Junirs Handbk 2015 GOOD SPORTS ACCREDITATION Palmerstn Rugby Unin Club is a Level 3 Gd Sprts accredited club and a Level 2 Gd Sprts (Healthy Eating) accredited club. Gd Sprts wrks with cmmunities t make sprts clubs safe and healthy by prviding advice abut managing alchl respnsibly and making clubs mre family-friendly. As a Level 3 Gd Sprts club we abide by ur liqur license, have bar management strategies in place and ur bar staff attend Respnsible Service f Alchl training. We als try nt t rely n revenue frm bar sales by seeking ther incme pprtunities, and we have a safe transprt plicy in place. INSURANCE The Australian Rugby Unin has arranged the ARU Sprts Injury and Liability Insurance Plan n behalf f ur member unins, their affiliate unins, clubs and referee assciatins. All participants (Players, Caches, Officials) must be registered with the ARU in rder t btain cverage under the plan. Fr details, g t: OCHRE CARD WORKING WITH CHILDREN Club vlunteers with a permanent seasn psitin (i.e. cmmittee, cach, manager, referee) are required t hld an Ochre Card. Further details can be btained frm: REFEREES The club is respnsible fr prviding referees fr U5s and U7s games. The NTRU will rster referees fr U9s and abve. The NTRU requests the assistance f clubs in recruiting referees and as such we welcme and encurage interested parents t put their name frward. TRAINING EQUIPMENT All players are asked t respect the training equipment used during training (balls, cnes, pads, etc.). These were purchased using club funds raised thrugh fundraising effrts r grant applicatins - i.e. thrugh vlunteers time and energy! VOLUNTEERS The club is run entirely by vlunteers wh generusly give up their valuable time fr the club. Vlunteering als prvides parents the pprtunity t meet ther like-minded parents and builds n the strng club spirit that exists in the club. Alng with the cach, team managers are the first pint f cntact that players and parents have with the club. Yur rle is an imprtant ne and very much valued by the club! All team managers are required t hld an Ochre Card. Team managers shuld als familiarise themselves with all facets f the club s junir prgram, as utlined in the junir handbk. SUMMARY OF TASKS FOR PRUC JUNIOR MANAGERS Friday night Fr U5 - U9, arrive at Rugby Park 15 minutes befre the start f the game. Fr U11 - U17, arrive at Rugby Park 30 minutes befre the start f the game. Bring team manager flder (cntaining team sheets), jumpers and drink bttles. Ice fr drink bttles will be available frm the esky at the Palmerstn Stand. Where applicable, direct players and parents t the allcated field. Alng with the cach/s, distribute players jumpers. Check fr crrect shrts and scks! Ensure all players running n the field are registered. Cmplete team sheet befre, during and after the game as required. Cllect all jumpers at the end f the game and take hme fr laundering. Phtcpy team sheet at the NTRU canteen and hand in riginal t the NTRU. Prvide cpy f team sheet (via sms pht) t club representative fr entering by PRUC. General Be respnsible fr team sheets, all jumpers and drinks bttles fr the duratin f the seasn. Alng with the cach/s, be the pint f cntact fr players and parents in regards t all team matters. In liaisn with the Junir Registrar, maintain up-t-date team details and team sheets. Ensure players and parents are aware f all club cmmunicatins as they arise. Assist with club fllw-ups as required. Likewise, cmmunicate with the club as required.
