2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ARE ALL COACHES VOLUNTEERS? Yes. NYS des nt ask teams t fundraise r vlunteer n game days. All NYS asks parents t d is vlunteer with their child s team. There are many vital rles t play n a team and thse psitins are filled by vlunteer parents. NYS ffers a pre-vlunteer sectin n the registratin frm, but many times we utilize the parent team meeting t assign caches rles, nce we have teams put tgether! NYS NEVER assigns caches, all caches are parent vlunteers! Any team with a cach is a result f a parent indicating n their child s registratin frm their willingness t help! HOW CAN I GURANTEE A HEAD COACHING SPOT AND TEAM? The nly way t assure a head caching psitin and team is t enrll a full team. This wuld mean having at least 14 players requesting yu as a cach in the 11-man league and at least 11 players requesting yu as cach in the 8-man league. Registrants MUST be signed up by the tackle certificatin day t slidify yur caching spt and team. Caches that fall under these requirements may still get a head caching spt and team, but wuld be dependent n number f free agents available. WHAT ROLE DO I PLAY ON GAME DAYS? NYS des nt ask caches t d anything ther than educate and cach the children n their team! NYS will set up all fields and prvide Site Directrs and Referees. DOES NYS PROVIDE PRACTICE LOCATIONS? NYS partners with lcal schl districts and parks & recreatin departments in relatin t practice facilities each seasn. Since each agency wrks differently, we pst a list fr each area n ur website, at We encurage ALL teams t utilize daylight hurs, HOA parks, and neighbrhd green areas t cnduct practices t avid additinal csts. WHEN CAN I RESERVE A PRACTICE FACILITY? Once a team is established in ur database (8 players registered fr 8-man and 11 players registered fr 11- man), the team is added t a practice field pririty list. Pririty is established by day/time f team reaching the set rster limit in relatin t paid registratins. Caches will then be cntacted in rder t allcated practice facility, times, and dates. This prcess will cntinue until all lcatins are filled. Nt all teams are guaranteed practice facilities thrugh the league. DO WE HAVE TO USE AN ASSIGNED NYS PRACTICE LOCATION? NYS teams may btain their wn practice lcatin, but may nt cntact schl districts and parks/recreatin departments, as thse agencies will refer yu back t the league. We encurage teams t utilize nn-lit areas during daytime hurs t minimize cst and maximize the number f facilities available t practice. HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY TEAM PRACTICE? Typically, teams practice between 2-3 times per week. NYS des nt restrict the amunt f practice time, s teams can practice as little r as much as they desire. DOES NYS PROVIDE PRACTICE EQUIPMENT? Since NYS des nt ask team t fundraise r pay team assessments, we encurage all members t bring a ball, cnes, etc. fr practice purpses. WHAT DO I NEED TO SUBMIT TO THE LEAGUE AS A COACH? NYS will welcme all caches selected t cach a team nce their team is established. At that time, caches can initiate their certificatin prcess. Caches must cmplete a tackle ftball certificatin curse nline via USA Ftball ($20), cmplete a backgrund check thrugh Natinal Center fr Safety Institute ($16.25), and a cncussin curse thrugh NFHS (Free). NYS will nt charge additinal fees fr the card. The fees listed abve are paid thrugh the certificatin rganizatin. The backgrund check can be substituted with a valid Arizna State Fingerprint Clearance card (regular card), cncealed weapn permit, valid identificatin fr a law enfrcement agency (nt a military ID card). Our inaugural seasn each year begins with ur Fall seasn. Once a cach cmpletes all items, he r she will be administered a NYS Cach ID card, valid frm September 1 st f the current year t August 31 st f the fllwing year. Any individual n the team needing t btain a cach card (up t five cach ID cards) must cmplete this certificatin prcess.

3 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ARE WE REQUIRED TO FUNDRAISE OR PAY ANY TEAM ASSESSMENTS? NO! NYS des nt require parents, players, r teams t fundraise r pay any additinal fees t participate in ur prgrams. SINCE NYS DOES NOT REQUIRE FUNDRAISING, CAN WE STILL OBTAIN SPONSORSHIPS FOR OUR TEAM? NYS teams may nt utilize ur 501(c)3 nn-prfit number t btain spnsrships r pen bank accunts in their team name. Teams may btain business spnsrship checks, made payable t NYS, t have an accunt pen at ur lcal ffice fr team use. Funds can nly be utilized fr items fr the children (registratin, turnament csts, trphies, unifrms, etc.), and can nly be debited by prviding an invice t be paid r a receipt fr reimbursement. Any extra funds at the end f the seasn will stay with the team fr use in a future NYS seasn and cannt be debited fr cash. NYS Spnsrship frm can be fund nline at WHY DO WE GET OUR GAME SCHEDULES THE WEEK OF OUR FIRST GAME? NYS strives fr perfectin and wants t ensure that when we distribute a schedule, that the infrmatin is up-tdate and accurate. Our rganizatin wrks with many lcal schl districts and lcal parks & recreatin departments that may hst varius ther activities at their lcatins. We release schedules the week f the first game t ensure that everyne has the mst accurate infrmatin fr the seasn! WHY DO WE NOT GET UNIFORMS IN THE TACKLE PROGRAM? We strive t have teams stay tgether and play n a year-rund basis. Unifrms are items in which participants must purchase t allw fr mre team cntrl and help t encurage teams t cntinue t play tgether thrughut the year. HOW DO PLAYER CERTIFICATIONS WORK ON GAMEDAY? Prir t the gameday, make sure that all yur players have a valid NYS Pht ID card. On gameday, reprt t the NYS Site Directr 30 minutes prir t yur scheduled game, t cmplete yur player certificatin. In rder t help the prcess run mre efficiently, please make sure that yu have yur players lined up in alphabetical rder. Cllect all the player Pht ID cards. Weigh-ins are cnducted withut player s equipment. The NYS representative will call ut players by name. Each player, when called, will step frward and have their Pht ID card reviewed. The NYS representative will recrd the player as being present and recrd the player s age. Fr the 8-man and 11-man weighted divisins, after the player s Pht ID card is reviewed the player will step n the scale t have his r her weight recrded. A player is ineligible if he r she des nt have a NYS Pht ID card, is nt listed n the NYS certificatin frm, r is ver the alltted weight requirement (8-man and 11-man weighted leagues nly). CAN I COACH OR AM I ALLOWED TO COACH MULTIPLE TEAMS (ORGANIZATIONS)? NYS des allw caches t cach multiple teams within the league. A cach carrying mre than ne team is classified as an rganizatin. In these situatins, we require the rganizatin t carry multiple caches, as we cannt guarantee cnflictin in schedules n game days. NYS will strive t prvide the best level f custmer service in this area t accmmdate everyne! WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER PLAYERS? NYS sets a rster deadline fr all prgrams. Please reference yur lcal area registratin frm t lcate registratin deadlines. DOES NYS OFFER SPECIAL TEAM PRICING? We d nt ffer special team/rganizatin pricing. We believe in ffering all participants the right t register at the lwest price available! We pst early, regular, and late pricing and deadlines n all lcal registratin frms. Teams registering ten r mre players will receive ne cmplimentary registratin fr a player during the current seasn r a credit fr a future seasn player. All players must be registered by league registratin deadlines.

Any teams wanting t reserve spts will be respnsible fr purchasing thse spts if NYS tries t place a late registrant n yur team. Players missing their Pht ID Card will NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY in that game. 3. Ensure all players and caches display gd sprtsmanship at all times! 4. Player Check-In begins 30 minutes prir t yur game. Players d nt wear equipment fr weigh-ins. 5. Cach IDs are mandatry and required fr Check-In and game play. 6. Limit f 7 Cach cards will be issued per team. This includes Caches, Assistant Caches, Team Parents, Phtgraphers allwed n the sidelines during any given game. 7. Teams may have t travel up t 50% f the time t game lcatins. 8. NO SMOKING OR PETS at any game site. 9. Players d nt have a required playing time in the 11-Man Unweighted and weighted league, but NYS strives t be an rganizatin that emphasizes player develpment. We encurage all caches t share in this same gal. 10. Players in the 8-Man Weighted leagues are guaranteed t play at least half f every game.

5 SAFETY TIPS AND CONCUSSION RECOGNITION 1. Make sure yur players check with their family dctrs t assess player fitness befre they begin any sprt prgrams. The parent/guardian is respnsible fr a player s health and the league assumes n respnsibility. 2. Hydratin is a big issue in sprts. Ask parents t send their children t practice with water bttles, and as a cach, remind players they shuld drink water thrughut the day. 3. Make sure players wear adequate prtective gear and examine all training and field equipment. Teach players t use equipment nly fr its intended purpse. 4. Ask parents t keep a first-aid kit in their cars t supplement yur wn first-aid kit. Encurage parents t get certified in first aid and CPR. Yu can never have enugh qualified hands in case f an emergency. A first-aid kit and at least ne adult trained and certified in first aid and CPR shuld be present at all practices and games. 5. Anyne respnsible fr driving yuth athletes t and frm practices r games shuld be licensed and insured. Cnsider updating yur wn insurance plicy t reflect carpling care f passengers. 6. D nt leave players alne befre, during r after practices! Encurage yur players t think safety during all games and practices. Example: Baseball: bat cntrl, thrwing the ball. CONCUSSION RECOGNITION - SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Cncussins are a very serius injury. One miscnceptin is that cncussins are a ftball r cntact sprt related injury. Cncussins can ccur in any sprt r recreatinal activity. A cncussin is a type f traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blw, r jlt t the head that can change the way the brain nrmally wrks. Cncussins can als ccur frm a blw t the bdy that causes the head t mve rapidly back and frth. Even a ding, getting yur bell rung, r what seems t be mild bump r blw t the head can be serius. ALL COACHES MUST COMPLETE AN ONLINE CONCUSSION COURSE PRIOR TO WEEK ONE OF THE SEASON. UPON COMPLETTION OF COURSE COACH MUST SUBMIT CERTIFICATE TO NYS. 7 The Red Light/Green Light Results will be sent t Natinal Yuth Sprts. Natinal Center fr Safety Initiatives will cntact yu directly if there are any questins, prblems r issues related t yur specific infrmatin. An address is required when cmpleting the backgrund check as ur cntact with yu will largely be electrnic. Please be sure t t yur list f acceptable dmains in yur prgram t receive ntificatins frm us. It is imprtant when entering yur name, that yu use yur full legal name as written n yur birth certificate r driver s license. Please als verify that yur scial security number was typed crrectly. Using nicknames r failing t type a crrect scial security number may delay r invalidate yur backgrund check. If yu have any questins r prblems submitting yur infrmatin, please call the Natinal Center fr Safety Initiatives at (866) Once yu have submitted yur infrmatin yu will receive a cnfirmatin page. The backgrund check generally takes 10 business days t cmplete and yu may check yur status n ur website under the "Check Yur Backgrund Screening Status" link at Once cach has verified the NCSI backgrund check is cmplete and verified, he r she may prceed int their lcal NYS ffice alng with their USA Ftball Certificate and NFHS Cncussin Certificate t have a NYS Cach ID card prduced. IF the NCSI backgrund check is still pending r a cach des nt have a required certificate, then a cach card will nt be issued. NCSI will prvide NYS a Red Light r Green Light in relatin t an individual s backgrund. Any cach with a Red Light will nt be able t receive a NYS cach ID card. Cach ID cards will nt be prduced withut prper certificates and green light backgrund check. Any cach receiving a Red Light thrugh the NCSI prcess, may still receive a cach card if he r she has a valid Arizna State Fingerprint Clearance card (regular card), cncealed weapn permit, valid identificatin fr a law enfrcement agency (nt a military ID card).
