6 ~TENNIS PLAN~ 6 Sectin 1300: TENNIS PLAN (INDIVIDUALS AND DOUBLES) (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) ATHLETIC PURPOSES, CODES, PLAN APPLICABLE. Rules in Sectins als apply t the Tennis Plan. DIVISIONS. (1) Bys, Girls Divisins. There shall be the fllwing divisins in the respective cnferences: (A) high schl bys, singles and dubles; (B) high schl girls, singles and dubles; and (C) mixed dubles. (2) Entries. At the district meet each schl may enter tw bys singles and tw girls singles, tw bys dubles and tw girls dubles, and tw mixed dubles teams. (3) Girls, Bys Team Restrictins. N girls team shall cmpete against bys teams and vice versa. PARTICIPATION LIMITATIONS. In cntests which cunt n UIL standing, an individual shall nt be allwed t cmpete in bth singles and dubles r mixed dubles, r in bth dubles and mixed dubles. CHAMPIONSHIP STRUCTURE. (1) Clsing District Entries. N entries shall be allwed fr district meets which are nt submitted t the directr n r befre the fifth day befre the first day f the meet unless ther arrangements have been previusly authrized by the District Executive Cmmittee. Districts may authrize a meeting after the entry deadline t allw fr substitutins. (2) Reginal Cntests. The winners f first and secnd places in district cntests, singles and dubles, bys and girls, and mixed dubles are eligible t enter the reginal cntests. The UIL staff will prvide turnament seeding recmmendatins. (3) State Cntests. The first and secnd place cntestants in the reginal turnaments in all cnferences qualify t enter the state turnament. (4) Number f Matches and Sets. (A) Determining the Winners. In all matches, the best tw-ut-f-three sets shall determine the winners. (B) Limit n Matches. N cntestant r team shall play mre than three matches per day. Nte: under the team tennis plan different restrictins exist. There shall be a minimum f ne hur s rest fr a team r player between the clse f ne match and the beginning f anther. This rule shall apply nly t district, reginal and state cmpetitin. (5) Substitutins. (A) District. In district meets, the District Executive Cmmittee shall set entry deadlines. The District Executive Cmmittee may set guidelines n substitutins prir t the start f the turnament. (B) Reginal and State. In reginal and state meets, n substitutins in singles will be allwed. A substitutin fr tennis dubles and mixed dubles will be permitted prir t the start f the turnament if a player is injured, ill r academically ineligible. (C) Limit n Substitutin. After a turnament has begun, n substitutin will be allwed. INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENTS. (1) Number f Turnaments. N student representing a member schl shall participate in mre than eight turnaments (ttal fr tennis and team tennis cmbined) during the schl year, excluding ne district tennis turnament, the reginal turnaments and the state turnament. (Nte: The team tennis district turnament cunts as ne f the eight allwable turnaments if schl time is lst.) Each turnament a schl team enters cunts as ne turnament fr each participating individual. Students are cnsidered t be representing their schl if they are wearing and/r using schl equipment r being directed r transprted by a schl emplyee. (2) Exceptins: (A) Triangular matches which are limited t three r fewer schls, d nt cunt as a turnament fr participants, prvided there is n lss f schl time. (B) If n mre than fur teams meet t play predetermined ppnent(s), it shall nt be cunted as ne f the eight turnaments allwed the individual if n schl time is lst and if n turnament draw is set t determine a champin.

N student representing a member schl shall participate in mre than ne cntest (turnament, dual r triangular match) per schl week (the first instructinal day f the week thrugh the last schl day). Schls shall nt enter invitatinal tennis turnaments scheduled n mre than ne schl day per any ne turnament. Exceptins: the reginal and state turnaments and district varsity turnaments pstpned by weather r public disaster, may als be scheduled during the schl week. (4) End f Seasn. Students and teams shall nt represent a member schl in any tennis turnament after the date f the state tennis turnament. WEATHER CANCELLATION OR CONTINUATION. A turnament pstpned r canceled by weather is cnsidered a turnament when all semi-final matches have been cmpleted. The remaining matches may be played at a later date (preferably Mnday r Tuesday f the next week) withut its cunting as anther turnament, prvided there is n lss f schl time. When all semi-final matches have nt been cmpleted, the turnament directr has three ptins: (1) The turnament may be canceled and nt cunt as a turnament fr the individuals r the schl. (2) The turnament may be cntinued, prvided there is n additinal lss f schl time. (3) The turnament may be cntinued with lss f schl time and shall cunt as tw turnaments. PRACTICE REGULATIONS OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL YEAR. Any tennis practice cnducted by a schl utside the schl year shall be in accrdance with the fllwing regulatins: (1) Student-athletes shall nt engage in mre than three hurs f practice activities n thse days during which ne practice is cnducted. (2) Student-athletes shall nt engage in mre than five hurs f practice activities n thse days during which mre than ne practice is cnducted. (3) The maximum length f any single practice sessin shall be three hurs. (4) On days when mre than ne practice is cnducted, there shall be, at a minimum, tw hurs f rest/recvery time between the end f ne practice and the beginning f the next practice. (5) Schls shall nt schedule mre than ne practice n cnsecutive days and student-athletes shall nt participate in multiple practices n cnsecutive days.

8 ~PRE-SEASON REGULATIONS~ 8 All high schl caches must be full-time emplyees f the schl district. Caches wh knwingly and willfully vilate rules may be penalized accrding t the Cnstitutin and Cntest Rules by the District Executive Cmmittee (reprimand) r State Executive Cmmittee (reprimand, public reprimand, suspensin). EXCEPTION: A retired teacher/administratr wh has 20 r mre years f experience may serve as an assistant cach in all athletics and as a head cach fr glf, tennis, team tennis, crss cuntry, track and field, and swimming. (This rule shall nt affect the status f a cach n a leave f absence attending cllege.) Als, student teachers, while they are assigned t a participant schl t fulfill their student teaching requirements, may vlunteer t serve as an assistant cach in all athletics. Schls shall nt pay student teachers fr assisting athletic caches. TEC Chapter Certificatin - CPR and First Aid Training Athletic caches, athletic trainers, cheerleading spnsrs and ther head directrs f UIL extra-curricular activities must have a current certificatin filed with the district. TEC Chapter Certificatin - AED Training Athletic caches and spnsrs, schl nurses, PE teachers, marching band directrs, and students that serve as an athletic trainer must have a current certificatin filed with the district. TEC Chapter Annual Requirement Safety Training Training prvided by UIL within the Rules Cmpliance Prgram (RCP). Athletic caches must cmplete prir t cntact with students. TEC Chapter Annual Requirement - Cncussin Training (2 hurs every ther year/1 hur annually) Athletic caches, athletic trainers and ptential members f the Cncussin Oversight Team must cmplete the training annually. C&CR 1202(j), UIL Prfessinal Acknwledgment Frm - cmpleted and n file with district C&CR Sectin 1208(i), Annual Requirement - Rules Cmpliance Prgram (RCP) Training available thrugh Register My Athlete n the UIL website- uil.registermyathlete.cm Athletic caches must cmplete prir t cntact with students. C&CR 1209(k), One Time Requirement Natinal Federatin f High Schls (NFHS): Fundamentals f Caching 6 hurs curse/$35 - all first year caches and any cach (r JH vlunteer) wh is nt a full-time emplyee f the schl district. Available thrugh a link n the UIL website r visit (Print certificate t verify cmpletin) C&CR 1208(y), Cheerleading Prgram Cach/Spnsr Safety/Risk Minimizatin fr Cheerleading Curse Must have a current certificatin r annual training cmpleted prir t cntact with participants. Districts shall determine the rganizatin that will prvide the certificatin r training. Resurces are available but nt limited t thse n the link frm UIL web site. C&CR 1208(j), Cach with Miscnduct Minimum Educatinal Requirement Any cach ejected frm a cntest shall cmplete the NFHS Fundamentals f Caching Curse. The curse is catalgued fr a 6 hur curse/$35. Any cach ejected frm a cntest shall cmplete the NFHS Teaching and Mdeling Behavir Curse. The curse is catalgued fr a 1.5 hur curse/$20. (

9 9 Eligibility rules are fund in Sectin 400 and 403 f the Cnstitutin and Cntest Rules. Any questin regarding a student s eligibility, shuld be addressed t the schl principal and/r superintendent. Residence requirements accrding t Sectins 400 (d) 403, and 442 shuld be thrughly investigated fr any student new t schl. Students are eligible t represent their schl in varsity interschlastic activities if they: are nt 19 years f age r lder n r befre September 1 f the current schlastic year. (See 504 handicapped exceptin.) have nt graduated frm high schl. are enrlled by the sixth class day f the current schl year r have been in attendance fr fifteen calendar days immediately preceding a varsity cntest. are full-time day students in a participant high schl. initially enrlled in the ninth grade nt mre than fur calendar years ag. are meeting academic standards required by state law. live with their parents inside the schl district attendance zne their first year f attendance. (Parent residence applies t varsity athletic eligibility nly.) When the parents d nt reside inside the district attendance zne the student culd be eligible if: the student has been in cntinuus attendance fr at least ne calendar year and has nt enrlled at anther schl; n inducement is given t the student t attend the schl (fr example: students r their parents must pay their rm and bard when they d nt live with a relative; students driving back int the district shuld pay their wn transprtatin csts); and it is nt a vilatin f lcal schl r TEA plicies fr the student t cntinue attending the schl. Students placed by the Texas Yuth Cmmissin are cvered under Custdial Residence (see Sectin 442 f the Cnstitutin and Cntest Rules). have bserved all prvisins f the Awards Rule. have nt been recruited. (Des nt apply t cllege recruiting as permitted by rule.) have nt vilated any prvisin f the summer camp rule, Sectin have bserved all prvisins f the Athletic Amateur Rule, Sectin 441. Limitatin n Awards. Schls may give ne majr award, nt t exceed $70.00 in value, t a student during high schl enrllment at the same schl fr participatin in ne f the UIL interschl cmpetitins listed in Sectin 480. One additinal symblic award, nt t exceed $10.00 in value, may be presented fr participatin in each additinal UIL activity listed in Sectin 480. The $10.00 award may be given t a student fr an activity during the same year that the majr award is given fr that activity. A schl may cntribute t majr awards in hnr f winning a UIL State Champinship. Student-athletes shall be in cmpliance with the Athletic Amateur Rule frm the first day f attendance in the ninth grade thrugh their last day f UIL athletic cmpetitin in grade twelve. This includes during schl and during nn-schl time and applies t all UIL cmpetitin and t nn-schl participatin in the same sprts spnsred by the UIL. (Fr instance, a race f six miles r lnger is nt cnsidered t be a crss-cuntry meet, s the Amateur Rule is nt applicable t students participating in this type f race.) Student-athletes in grades 9-12 shall nt: Accept any valuable cnsideratin as an award fr winning r placing in an athletic cntest. Valuable cnsideratin is defined as anything wearable, usable r sellable, and includes such items as t-shirts, hamburger cupns, free r reduced rate tennis racquets, etc. Accept valuable cnsideratin fr teaching r caching any UIL sprt, except beginning swimming r lifesaving lessns. Accept valuable cnsideratin fr allwing their name t be used fr advertisement f a prduct, plan r service. Accept any special service r benefit ffered nly t athletes r members f an athletic team. Exceptin: Students may accept reasnable fees that d nt exceed prevailing rates fr teaching r caching activities prvided they cnfine the wrk t teaching r caching skills. Students may accept reasnable fees that d nt exceed prevailing rates fr fficiating athletic cntests. The penalty fr vilatin f the Amateur Rule is frfeiture f varsity eligibility in the invlved sprt fr at least ne year frm the date f the vilatin. The Athletic Amateur Rule is sprt specific, s that a vilatin in ne sprt wuld make the student ineligible nly in that sprt, nt in all UIL athletic activities

10 10 It shall be the respnsibility f each schl t keep n file the fllwing required annual frms fr each student wh participates in any practice, scrimmage, r game. Frms t be filed can be dwnladed frm the UIL website ( Pre-Participatin Physical Examinatin Frm. As a minimum requirement, a Physical Examinatin Frm must be cmpleted prir t junir high athletic participatin and again prir t first and third years f high schl athletic participatin. Lcal district plicy may require an annual physical exam. The frm must be filled in and signed by either a Physician, a Physician Assistant licensed by a State Bard f Physician Assistant Examiners, a Registered Nurse recgnized as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Bard f Nurse Examiners, r a Dctr f Chirpractic. Examinatin frms signed by any ther health care practitiner, will nt be accepted. Medical Histry Frm. Each year prir t any practice r participatin a UIL Medical Histry Frm signed by bth a student and a parent r guardian is required. A Medical Histry Frm shall accmpany each physical examinatin and shall be signed by bth a student and a parent r guardian. Parent r Guardian Permit. Annual participatin permit signed by the student s parent r guardian. Rules Acknwledgment Frm. Annual UIL Rules Acknwledgment Frm signed by the student and the student s parent r guardian. Parent/Student Anablic Sterid Use and Randm Sterid Testing Frm. The parent/guardian f each high schl athlete, alng with each high schl athlete, must annually sign the UIL Illegal Sterid Use and Randm Sterid Testing Parent and Student Ntificatin/Agreement Frm. Cncussin Acknwledgement Frm. Annual UIL Cncussin Acknwledgment Frm signed by the student and the student s parent r guardian. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Frm. Annual UIL Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Frm signed by the student and the student's parent r guardian. It shall be the respnsibility f each schl t keep n file the fllwing required frms. Frms t be filed can be dwnladed frm the UIL website ( Eligibility Frm. Schls must submit cmprehensive eligibility blanks fr ftball, basketball, vlleyball, sftball, baseball, and sccer. Fr all ther athletic activities general alphabetical listing f eligible athletes is required. One cpy shall be sent t the district executive cmmittee chair and ne cpy shall be filed in the schl s ffice. Cmpleted eligibility frms are t be signed by the superintendent r a designated administratr and the cach. These frms are t be pstmarked befre a cntestant is allwed t participate in a varsity cntest. Failure t furnish crrect and cmplete infrmatin may, upn request by the prper cmmittee, cnstitute grunds fr suspensin. Previus Athletic Participatin Frm. New students in grades 9-12 wh represented their frmer schl in a varsity r sub-varsity athletic cntest r practice in grades 8-12 in any previus schl year must have a Previus Athletic Participatin Frm cmpleted prir t participatin in a varsity cntest at the new schl. Late Frms. If an eligibility frm r a Previus Athletic Participatin Frm was nt filed prir t cmpetitin, and it was an inadvertent errr and the student is actually eligible under Subchapter M f the Cnstitutin, the district executive cmmittee is nt required t demand frfeiture r t rule the student ineligible. They may assess the minimum penalty f private reprimand t the schl. Freign Exchange Students. Subject t the ther eligibility rules f the Cnstitutin, freign exchange students in apprved CSIET freign exchange prgrams are allwed t apply fr exceptins t the residence rule thrugh the UIL waiver prcess. A waiver culd be granted in certain activities if they have nt received advanced training r have nt had extensive experience in the activity f their chice. Freign exchange students are nt eligible fr varsity athletic participatin unless they are granted a Freign Exchange Student Waiver. Varsity Athletic Eligibility fr Over-Age Student. Subject t the ther eligibility rules f the UIL Cnstitutin, an individual is eligible t participate in a League varsity athletic cntest as a representative f a participant schl if that individual is less than 19 years ld n September 1 preceding the cntest; r has been granted eligibility based n a handicapping cnditin which delayed his r her educatin by at least ne year and the student is currently in special educatin and under the auspices f an ARD Cmmittee r has been identified as a 504 student prir t the end f their secnd year in high schl (effective fr entering ninth graders in the current schl year).

11 11 Pre-seasn practice regulatins fr sprts that begin practice prir t the schl year are as fllws. Students-athletes shall nt engage in mre than three hurs f practice activities n thse days during which ne practice is cnducted. Student-athletes shall nt engage in mre than five hurs f practice activities n thse days during which mre than ne practice is cnducted. The maximum length f any single practice sessin is three hurs. On days when mre than ne practice is cnducted, there shall be, at a minimum, TWO hurs f rest/recvery time between the end f ne practice and the beginning f the next practice. Schls shall nt schedule mre than ne practice n cnsecutive days, and student-athletes shall nt participate in multiple practices n cnsecutive days. (Exceptin - Vlleyball) When determining hw t cunt times spent as "practice activities" please cnsult the fllwing pre-seasn chart: What Cunts Actual n field/curt practice Sprt specific skill instructin Mandatry cnditining Water breaks Rest breaks What Desn't Cunt Meetings Weight training* Film study Injury treatment Vluntary cnditining* *Des nt cunt twards practice time, but cannt be dne during the tw hur rest/recvery time. In reference t the minimum Tw-hur rest/recvery time between the end f ne practice and the beginning f the next practice (n days when mre than ne practice is scheduled), there can be n practice activities at all during this time. This time is exclusively fr students t rest/recver fr the fllwing practice sessin, whether that sessin is an actual n field/curt practice r a mandatry cnditining perid. Eight Hur Rule Practice utside the schl day, frm the beginning f the schl week thrugh the end f the schl week (excluding hlidays), is limited t a maximum f eight hurs per week, per activity. The In-Schl athletic perid des nt cunt twards the alltted 8 hurs. Any time used in cnnectin with a practice that is nt part f the athletic perid cunts as part f the 8 hurs. (Dress, mandatry weights/vide/meetings, etc.) The fllwing sectin cmbines State Law, State Bard f Educatin regulatins, and UIL rules. The Texas Educatin Agency defines participatin as being invlved with the activity, traveling with the team, r sitting n the bench. UIL defines participatin f a student athlete as actually entering the cntest as a player. Example: On a Tuesday night, the student s name is n the screbk but she remains n the bench and des nt actually enter the game. This cunts as participatin fr TEA but nt UIL. In ther wrds, that student cannt participate again until Friday after schl because f TEA regulatins, hwever that game des nt cunt as ne f the allwable games as determined by UIL plicy. Cnstitutin and Cntest Rules: Sectin 5: Definitins Calendar week means 12:01 a.m. n Sunday thrugh midnight n Saturday.

12 Schl week means the week beginning at 12:01 a.m. n the first instructinal day f a calendar week and ends at the clse f instructin n the last instructinal day f the calendar week, excluding hlidays. 19 TAC (K)(1)- One cntest per schl week: Schl districts shall adpt plicies limiting extracurricular activities frm the beginning f the schl week thrugh the end f the schl week (excluding hlidays) by scheduling n mre than ne cntest r perfrmance per activity per student. *Exceptin: Turnaments and pst-seasn cmpetitin, as well as district varsity cntests pstpned by weather r public disaster, may als be scheduled during the schl week. Eight-hur practice rule: Schl districts shall adpt plicies limiting extracurricular activities frm the beginning f the schl week thrugh the end f the schl week (excluding hlidays) by limiting practice utside the schl day t a maximum f eight hurs per schl week per activity. Participatin. (b) (b) SUNDAY PROHIBITION. A UIL member schl shall nt participate in any athletic cntest r cnduct any practice r teach any plays, frmatins r skills n Sunday. (1) Vilatin. Any shwing f films t r meetings f athletes fr the purpse f instructin r reviewing f plays, frmatins r skills in any sprt will be cnstrued as a vilatin. (2) Caches Sunday Meetings. This des nt prevent caches frm meeting n Sunday r frm seeing films r planning an instructinal prgram, prvided n athletes are invlved in this meeting. (3) Exceptins. (A) Glf. If the reginal and/r state glf turnaments are scheduled n a Mnday, the ne 18-hle practice rund allwed at the reginal and/r state turnament site may be played n the Sunday afternn preceding the meet (n earlier than 12:00 nn) if permitted by the reginal r state meet directr. (B) Tennis. If the reginal and/r state tennis turnaments are scheduled n a Mnday, and if participants arrive at the site n the preceding Sunday because f travel distance, it will nt be a vilatin f this rule if schl district persnnel accmpany r transprt participants t a tennis curt fr the purpse f practicing n their wn, if permitted by the reginal r state meet directr. (C) Crss Cuntry. If the reginal and/r state crss cuntry meets are scheduled n a Mnday, and if participants arrive at the site n the preceding Sunday because f travel distance, it will nt be a vilatin f this rule if schl district persnnel accmpany r transprt participants t the curse site fr the purpse f practicing n their wn, if permitted by the reginal r state directr. (c) REGIONAL AND STATE TOURNAMENT COMPETITION ON SUNDAY. Reginal r state turnament directrs may reschedule pstpned r weather delayed turnaments n Sunday afternn r evening with prir apprval f the turnament directr and the participating schls and with prir permissin frm the UIL Athletic Directr. 12 Jurisdictin. The DEC shall rule n prtests and reprts f vilatins cncerning eligibility and ther vilatins f the Cnstitutin and Cntest Rules (C&CR) that ccur within its district. Cmpsitin. The DEC is cmpsed f the superintendents f participant schls cmpeting in the assigned UIL Playing District. The superintendent may designate administratrs t represent participant schls in a multi-high schl district. Respnsibilities. The DEC shall arrange a schedule t determine district representatives prir t the deadline specified in the fficial calendar. The DEC shall certify in writing, eligible district representatives in all athletic activities. Pre-Seasn Regulatins The DEC shall determine in writing, prir t the seasn, the methd t determine the district representatives in the event tw r mre schls are tied in win/lss percentages. (NOTE: If a tie-breaker prcedure is nt prvided prir t the seasn, the UIL tie-breaker will be used.) The DEC shall enfrce all rules cntained in the C&CR. The DEC shall investigate the eligibility f cntestants. The DEC shall settle within the district all disputes. The DEC des nt have the authrity t require a schl t purchase equipment which is nt required by rules stated in the C&CR.

13 The DEC shall take such ther actin that is reasnable, necessary r desirable, and cnsistent with the UIL C&CR, the rules f the State Bard f Educatin and the law. The DEC shall determine the place f games in the case there is a disagreement between tw teams. The State Executive Cmmittee shall have jurisdictin in all disputes arising between district winners that have been duly certified. Schl Authrity Respnsible. The superintendent shall be respnsible fr the prper cnduct f athletic cntests in a schl system. 13 Observe Rules. Each schl shall abide by all rules cntained in the Cnstitutin. In case an ineligible cntestant is used in any League game, knwingly r unknwingly, the minimum penalty shall be frfeiture f the game.

14 ~REGULAR SEASON~ 14 Number f Cntests Allwed. (Team tennis plus individual tennis) A student representing a participant schl shall nt participate in mre than eight turnaments (ttal fr tennis and team tennis cmbined) during the schl year, excluding ne district tennis turnament, the reginal turnaments and the state turnament. (Nte: The team tennis district turnament cunts as ne f the eight allwable turnaments if schl time is lst.) Students are cnsidered t be representing their schl if they are wearing and/r using schl equipment r being directed r transprted by a schl emplyee. Exceptins. Triangular matches, which are limited t three r fewer schls, d nt cunt as a turnament fr teams r participants, prvided there is n lss f schl time. If n mre than fur teams meet t play predetermined ppnent(s), it shall nt be cunted as ne f the eight turnaments allwed the team r the individual if n schl time is lst and if n turnament draw is set t determine a champin. Nn-schl Turnaments. If a student misses schl t attend a nn-schl spnsred cmpetitin, it shall nt cunt as ne f the student s eight turnaments, unless they are representing the schl. Schl Week Limitatin. N student r team representing a participant schl shall participate in mre than ne cntest (turnament, dual, r triangular match) per schl week (the first instructinal day f the week thrugh the last schl day). Exceptins: The reginal and state turnament, and district varsity turnaments pstpned by weather r public disaster, may als be scheduled during the schl week. Invitatinal Turnaments. Invitatinal turnaments can use nly ne schl day per invitatinal turnament. End f Seasn. Students and teams shall nt represent a participant schl in any tennis turnament after the date f the state tennis turnament. Cnferences. Participating schls shall be divided int cnferences accrding t UIL spring meet alignments. Divisins. There shall be the fllwing divisins: Bys and girls divisins. There shall be the fllwing divisins in the respective cnferences: 1) high schl bys singles and dubles; 2) high schl girls singles and dubles; 3) mixed dubles. Entries. At the district meet each schl may enter tw bys singles and tw girls singles, tw bys dubles teams and tw girls dubles teams, and tw mixed dubles teams. Girls and bys team restrictin. N girls team shall cmpete against bys teams and vice versa. Official Rules. The United States Tennis Assciatin rules shall be used in all League matches with exceptins as nted in this sectin. Weather Cancellatin r Cntinuatin. A turnament pstpned r cancelled by weather is cnsidered a turnament when all semi-final matches have been cmpleted. The remaining matches may be played at a later date (preferably Mnday r Tuesday f the next week) withut it cunting as anther turnament, prvided there is n lss f schl time. When all semifinal matches have nt been cmpleted, the turnament directr has three ptins: The turnament may be cancelled and nt cunt as a turnament fr the individual r the schl. The turnament may be cntinued, prvided there is n additinal lss f schl time. The turnament may be cntinued with lss f schl time and shall cunt as tw turnaments. Awards. High schl participants may receive a trphy, medal, patch r ther symblic award fr participating in an invitatinal athletic cntest, if it is given by the rganizatin cnducting the cntest r cmpetitin. Amateur Rule. It is a vilatin f the UIL Athletic Amateur Rule t accept anything f valuable cnsideratin. This valuable cnsideratin wuld include (but is nt limited t) rackets, duffel bags, balls, scks, shes, shrts/skirts, shirts, visrs, watches, etc. Als, when individuals purchase equipment frm a manufacturer, they are required t pay the fair market price, and keep a receipt.

15 Number f Matches and Sets. In all bys and girls matches in the district, reginal and state cntests, the best tw ut f three sets shall determine the winners. A cntestant r team shall nt play mre than three matches per day and there shall be a minimum f ne hur s rest fr a team r player between the clse f ne match and the beginning f anther. This rule shall apply nly t cntests which cunt n League standing fr individual tennis r mixed dubles. 15 Participatin Limitatins. A by r girl shall nt be allwed t cmpete in bth singles and dubles r mixed dubles, r in bth dubles and mixed dubles fr spring meet tennis. This rule shall apply nly t cntests which cunt n League standing. Tennis Etiquette. Applauding a gd play is always in rder. Applauding an errr is never in rder. Any persn wh takes it upn himself t berate the fficials r makes himself cnspicuus by razzing the teams shuld be requested t leave the curt area. Lateness. N excuse shall be accepted fr failure f a team r cntestant t appear at the time annunced. The USTA Pint Penalty System will be in effect fr lateness. Caching (by schl persnnel nly) Accrding t USTA rules, a player is allwed 20 secnds between pints. A player may prvide feedback during 20- secnd time but cannt interrupt the cntinuus play rule. Caching is NOT permitted in r n the cnfines f the tennis curt. (Exceptin: during the 90 secnd changever) A cach may cach his/her players during the 90 secnd changever at the end f dd games, and during the 10 minute rest perid fr split set matches. Only the schl tennis cach emplyed by that schl may cach and nly in a manner which des nt interfere with the play n adjining curts. Cntinuus Play. Play shall be cntinuus frm the first service until the match is cncluded and in accrdance with Rule 30 f the USTA Rule Bk. Play shall never be suspended, delayed r interfered with fr the purpse f enabling a player t recver his strength, breath, r physical cnditin. In case f accidental injury, the umpire may allw a ne-time threeminute suspensin fr that injury. Camps. Students and/r parents can pay fr the student s participatin in a tennis camp r private instructin. Hwever, it is a vilatin fr schls t furnish transprtatin, spnsr, r pay expenses fr a student being given private instructin r attending a clinic. Private Lessns. Lessns must be available t all students n a first cme first serve basis. All students must pay the same fees. (Nte the student r parents must pay all csts.) High schl athletes may nt be paired with r against cllege players during lessns fr the purpse f demnstrating skills and abilities. Only bna fide lessns are legal. Any type f tryut sessin is a vilatin. A vilatin wuld cause the student t lse eligibility fr ne calendar year. Schl caches may nt receive mney fr lessns during the schl year. The cach s cde includes abstaining frm any practice which wuld bring financial gain t the cach by using a student s participatin in a camp, clinic, league, r ther nn-schl athletic event, such as a rebate fr each player sent t a particular camp r frm each player using a particular prduct. Caches shall nt charge a fee fr private instructin t student athletes during the schl year. The restrictin n charging fees fr private instructin applies nly t thse students wh are: (A) in grades 9-12; (B) frm the cach s attendance zne; and (C) participating in the sprt fr which the cach is respnsible. Clinics. Individuals: Students may attend clinics as individuals paying their wn cst with n schl invlvement. These individuals may actually receive direct instructin by a clinician. Teams: Schl teams may attend a clinic. (They shuld pay their wn csts.) Teams may bserve but cannt be directly instructed by anyne ther than the schl cach. The schl cach culd receive direct instructins frm the clinician and then the cach culd instruct his/her team. There is n limit n the number f players attending a clinic. Sundays. League member schls shall nt run any meet r cnduct any practice n Sunday. Any meeting f athletes fr the purpse f instructing r practicing skills will be cnstrued a vilatin. Caches may meet n Sunday prvided there are n athletes invlved in this meeting.

EXCEPTION Practice - If the reginal and/r state tennis turnaments are scheduled n a Mnday and the participants arrive at the site n the preceding Sunday because f travel distance, it will nt be cnstrued a vilatin f this rule if participants are accmpanied t r transprted t a tennis curt by the schl cach fr the purpse f hitting r warm up withut the cach giving instructin. The reginal r state meet directr general wuld have t apprve the use f the facilities in this case. Clthing. Individuals and teams representing their schl shall wear schl apprved clthing. It is recmmended that clthing be in schl clrs, similar in design, and/r have the schl identifying lg r name. All clthing des nt have t be identical, but the schl fficial must apprve whatever is wrn. Pint Penalty System. All players are warned prir t the start f the turnament. 1st Offense: 2nd Offense: 3rd Offense: Pint Game Default frm match r turnament Penalty pints are cumulative thrughut the turnament. USTA Medical Rules. Medical Cnditin. Medical cnditins include, but are nt limited t, injuries, illnesses, heat-related cnditins and cramping. Medical Time-Out. A medical time-ut cnsists f evaluatin time plus a maximum f three minutes treatment time as determined by the referee. Request fr Medical time-ut. During the match r warm-up if a player suffers frm a medical cnditin r believes that medical diagnsis r treatment is required, the player may request a ne-time three-minute medical time-ut fr that cnditin. A request fr a medical time-ut may be made by a player t the referee, chair umpire, r ther fficial at any time during the match r warm-up. A player with a pre-existing cnditin, sustained prir t the match in prgress, may request and receive ne (1) medical time-ut if the cnditin is aggravated during match play. Qualified Medical Persnnel Present. If qualified medical persnnel r an athletic trainer is available, the threeminute time-ut begins after the evaluatin and diagnsis f the medical cnditin. Qualified Medical Persnnel Nt Present. If qualified medical persnnel r an athletic trainer is nt available, the referee, chair umpire, r ther fficial shall explain the medical time-ut rule and allw the player t be treated. This fficial may prvide supplies. The three-minute medical time-ut begins when treatment begins. Whenever pssible a turnament fficial shall be present during evaluatin, diagnsis, and treatment. When Medical Time-Out May Be Taken. During the Match. A player may receive a medical time-ut: immediately; n the next change-ver; after a qualified medical persn r athletic trainer arrives, evaluates, and is prepared t give treatment; r after the referee r ther fficial arrives and explains the medical time-ut rule. If play is suspended until qualified medical persnnel, an athletic trainer, r an fficial arrives, then play (r rewarm-up, if any) shall resume immediately after cmpletin f evaluatin, diagnsis, and treatment. During the Warm-Up. If a player suffers frm a medical cnditin during the warm-up that prevents the player frm starting the match as scheduled, the player may request and receive a medical time-ut: immediately; r n end f the warm-up. If a player is unable t cmpete after receiving a medical time-ut, then the match shall nt begin. Any medical cnditin incurred in the warm-up shall be deemed t be pre-existing nce the match begins. Penalty. After the medical time-ut, any delay shall be subject t the Pint Penalty System. If mre than 15 minutes elapse between the time an fficial is ntified and resumptin f play (r re-warm-up, if any), the player shall be subject t the Pint Penalty System. Medical Treatment During Changever. Within any ninety-secnd changever, a player may receive n-curt evaluatin, treatment, and supplies frm qualified medical persnnel r an athletic trainer. 16

17 Limitatin n Medical Time-Outs fr Cramping. Only ne medical time-ut shall be permitted fr cramping and ther heat-related cnditins in any match, even if the cramping ccurs in different parts f a player s bdy. Nn-Treatable Medical Cnditins. Players may nt receive a medical time-ut fr treatment fr the fllwing cnditins: Any medical cnditin that cannt be treated apprpriately during a match, i.e., degenerative cnditins nt helped r eased by n-curt treatment General player fatigue, i.e., withut cramps, vmiting, dizziness, blisters, r ther similar treatable cnditins. Any treatment requiring intravenus infusins r xygen n curt. The determinatin f whether a medical cnditin is nn-treatable shall be made by qualified medical persnnel r an athletic trainer, if available. Otherwise, the referee r ther fficial shall made the determinatin. Leaving the Playing Area. A player requesting a medical time-ut may nt leave the playing area withut the permissin f the referee, his deputy, r ther fficial in charge f the match. Tilet Visits. A player may request a suspensin f play fr a tilet visit r ne r mre times during a match. Fr each request, the referee, his deputy, r ther fficial in charge f the match shall decide if it is a genuine tilet emergency, as ppsed t general player fatigue. If the request is nt granted, play cntinues. Caching Nt Permitted. N caching shall be permitted during the suspensin f play fr either a medical cnditin r a tilet visit. 17 Nn-Cnference and District Cntests Videtaping/Filming by Schls. It is a vilatin t film r videtape a nn-cnference r district athletic cntest in which yur schl r team is nt cmpeting unless prir cnsent f the tw schls invlved has been btained. A schl des nt have t btain permissin t film r tape a NON-CONFERENCE OR DISTRICT cntest in which it is cmpeting. Hwever, the film r videtape shall nt be utilized until after the cntest has been cmpleted. Films and videtapes becme the prperty f the schl ding the filming unless by district rule r by cnsent f the schls invlved in the cntest. Videtaping/Filming by Individuals. Any individual (ther than the fficially designated schl camera) taping r filming must have prir permissin frm the schls invlved in the cntest and may nt bstruct the view f ther spectatrs f the cntest. Cmmercial Uses. The use f the films r tapes fr cmmercial purpses must be apprved by all schls invlved in the cntest.

18 ~POST SEASON~ 18 Representatin. At the district meet each schl may enter tw bys singles and tw girls singles, tw bys dubles and tw girls dubles teams, and tw mixed dubles teams. The winners f first and secnd place in district cntests, singles and dubles, bys and girls, and mixed dubles advance t the reginal cntests. The first and secnd place cntestants in the reginal turnaments in all cnferences advance t the state turnament. Dates. District certificatin deadline - April 11, Entries. Deadlines. N entries shall be allwed fr district meets, which are nt submitted t the directr n r befre the fifth day befre the first day f the meet. Districts may authrize a scratch meeting after the entries are submitted t allw fr substitutins. Schls shuld be permitted t substitute accrding t apprved district executive cmmittee regulatins. Changes in the entries that were made by the deadline shuld fllw the suggested guidelines: Students wh are nt eligible at five days prir t the meet, but may becme eligible at the time f the scheduled district meet may be listed n the entry frm and designated as a singles r dubles r mixed dubles player fr cmpetitin. They must be eligible at the time they actually cmpete. Students entered, but wh have lst their eligibility because f the academic regulatins, shuld be permitted a substitutin. Students that are eligible participants frm the same schl shuld be permitted t ccupy the vacated places. These substitutins shuld be n an eligibility frm turned int the district chairman prir t the cntest, pstmarked n later than the day f the meet. If a schl, which has nt entered the turnament five days prir, wishes t enter the turnament at the time f the scratch meeting, it wuld be up t the district executive cmmittee s plicy r authrized meet directr t determine if that schl culd enter. Reprting. N excuse shall be accepted fr failure f a team r cntestant t appear at the time annunced. The USTA Pint Penalty System will be in effect fr lateness. Disqualificatin. In the district r reginal turnament, if there is a disqualificatin fr unsprtsmanlike cnduct, the athlete may be prhibited frm participating at the next level. Cunting District Turnaments. In district play, the final turnament f the district meet in tennis will be cnsidered as the district turnament. If a series f district turnaments are held, thse turnaments wuld have t be cnsidered part f the eight invitatinal turnaments allwance. Sites. Site f the turnaments shall be determined by the spring meet district executive cmmittee. Inclement Weather. If weather cnditins prevent playing, the spring meet cmmittee and directr shall adjust the time schedule. Substitutins. District. In district meets, the district executive cmmittee shall set entry deadlines. The district executive cmmittee may set guidelines n substitutins prir t the start f the turnament. Limit n Substitutin. After a turnament has begun, n substitutin will be allwed. Tie breaker. The 7-pint tie breaker scring system will perate when the scre reaches six games all in any set. (Prcedure fr playing the tie breaker are as fllws.) Prcedure fr Playing the Singles Tie-Breaker. A player wh first wins seven pints shall win the game and the set prvided he/she leads by a margin f tw pints. If the scre reached six pints all, the game shall be extended until this margin has been achieved. Numerical scring shall be used thrughut the tie breaker.

19 The player whse turn it is t serve shall be the server fr the first pint, which is delivered frm the right curt. His/her ppnent shall be the server fr the secnd and third pint (delivered frm the left curt, then the right curt), and thereafter each player shall serve alternately fr tw cnsecutive pints (left curt, then right curt) until the winner f the game and set has been decided. Players shall change ends after every six pints and at the cnclusin f the tie breaker. Nte that after any change f ends the server will be serving his secnd serving pint. The player wh served first in the set that ended in a tie breaker shall receive service in the first game f the fllwing set. Prcedure fr Playing the Dubles Tie-Breaker. In dubles the prcedure fr singles shall apply: The player whse turn it is t serve shall be the sever fr the first pint. The turnament directr must start the finals and cnslatin matches at the same time. Officials. The directr in charge shall have authrity t arrange fr fficials, subject t the apprval f the apprpriate executive cmmittee. Rules Cmmittee. A rules cmmittee appinted by the reginal executive cmmittee shuld be established t act n all vilatins. Balls. Directrs will ntify schls cncerning tennis balls t be supplied. Fees. Directrs will ntify schls cncerning entry fees t be paid. 19 Dates. Reginal turnaments will be held April Reginal Sites and Directrs. Reginal sites and directrs may be fund n the UIL website at Entries. The district directr will certify entries t the reginal turnament. Substitutin. Befre the turnament has begun, a substitutin may be made in a schl tennis dubles r mixed dubles team but nt in singles. A schl may nt substitute fr a singles player, an entire dubles team r an entire mixed dubles team. The alternate single, dubles r mixed dubles must be used. If at all pssible, call the reginal directr prir t Mnday afternn regarding changes in dubles r mixed dubles teams. Other dubles r mixed dubles substitutes may be permitted befre beginning the turnament by ntifying the site directr. Reminder: Substitutins may be made fr illness, injury, academic ineligibility r if a student is penalized by the schl fr miscnduct r vilatin f the cde f cnduct.
