The Patriot League s athletic success is achieved while its member institutions remain committed to its founding principle of admitting and graduating studentathletes that are academically representative of their class. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education Corporate Parkway, Suite 190 Center Valley, Pa ; Fax Colgate clinches PLT berth; Navy hosts Army in 90th meeting Center Valley, Pa. Bucknell and Colgate each extended their respective win streaks to four thanks to weekend victories, which kept both tied with one another at the top of the Patriot League standings at 4-0. A week after taking down Army at home, the Raiders posted another strong effort with an 11-8 win at Lehigh Saturday night. Colgate showed it has some offensive depth, as the nation s second-leading goal scorer in sophomore Peter Baum was held to only a single assist by the Lehigh defense, led by this week s Defensive Player of the Week Richard Bradley. Ben McCabe picked up the slack for Jim Nagle s crew with four goals. Colgate s win helped it keep pace with Bucknell, which recorded an 8-7 win over Army earlier in the day. Chase Bailey and Todd Heritage each scored a pair for the Bison. Sophomore keeper Kyle Feeney s four saves in the fourth quarter helped make Bailey s unassisted goal with 8:29 left stand up as the game-winner. Holy Cross 9-6 win at Lafayette was a three-for-one special. It was the Crusaders first win of the season. It was the first collegiate victory for sophomore keeper Mike Fisher, who made 14 saves. And finally, it was the first career win for interim head coach Jim Morrissey. Holy Cross will be back in action Tuesday night when it visits Bryant at 7 p.m. The schedule goes dark again for three days before League play resumes Friday night when Bucknell visits Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. in another critical League showdown. It s quite a turnaround for Jim Nagle s crew, which finished the 2010 campaign on the outside looking in with a 3-10 overall mark and a 2-4 record in the League. The Raiders demonstrated some timely offensive depth as sophomore Peter Baum, who entered the game as one of the nation s leading goal scorers, was held to just one point on an assist. Ben McCabe stepped up for Colgate with a four-goal effort, and Matt Baker s extra-man goal at the 11:06 mark of the fourth quarter stood up as the game-winner. One of the keys to the Raiders win Saturday was Jim Carroll at the X. He went 13-of-22 on faceoffs and held Lehigh s Ryan Snyder, one of the best faceoff men in the country, to just 6-of-16. Bucknell Edges Army to Remain Tied for First We took one step closer to a dramatic showdown on the final day of the regular season between Bucknell and Colgate when the Bison posted an 8-7 win at Army on Saturday afternoon. West Point has not been an easy place for road teams the last few years, as the Black Knights were riding a nine-game home win streak into the contest. Bucknell s youth helped propel it to Saturday s victory, as sophomore Chase Bailey tallied four points and two goals, including the game-winner in the fourth quarter. Classmate Kyle Feeney was stellar in net with 11 saves in one of the best outings of his career. He came up big when it mattered most, with four saves in the final quarter. Army-Navy is Always Big The next chapter of the Army-Navy rivalry will play out Saturday in Annapolis when the Mids host the Black Knights at Navy- Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network, giving a national audience an opportunity to witness one of the best rivalries in all of sports. To add to the drama, Navy must defeat Army in order to have a chance at qualifying for the Patriot League Tournament. A loss would essentially doom the Mids from postseason consideration. Navy has appeared in every Patriot League Tournament since its inception in The game is equally important for Army, which would also clinch a berth in the Patriot League Tournament with a win over the Mids Saturday. Navy owns the all-time series edge Another Huge Weekend Starts Friday Even before Army and Navy take the field on Saturday, Bucknell will head to Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks are in the midst of a four-game stretch against nationally-ranked opponents, having already played against Penn State and Colgate. Lehigh would clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament with a win over the Bison. In addition to the Army-Navy tilt Saturday, Colgate will hit the road to take on Lafayette in Easton, Pa., at 7 p.m. The Leopards are reeling and will look to snap an eight-game skid that continued last weekend with a 9-6 loss to visiting Holy Cross. Either Lewisburg or Hamilton We don t know who will host the Patriot League Tournament just yet, but the possibilities have been narrowed down with two weekends left in the regular season. With both teams at 4-0 and tied atop the League standings, only Bucknell and Colgate can serve as the host of the 2011 edition of the four-team bracket. Regardless of what happens this weekend for either team, whomever emerges the victor of the Bucknell-Colgate contest at Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton, N.Y. on April 23 will clinch the regular-season title and hosting duties for the League Tournament, which will start the following Friday, April 29. Bucknell last hosted the tournament in 2009 after posting a 6-0 campaign, while Colgate did so in 2006 after a 5-1 League season. The Blog Has You Covered The regular season is approaching its climax, and fans can follow the action from three games this weekend with the Patriot League blog. It starts Friday night when No. 12/12 Bucknell heads to Bethlehem to visit Lehigh in a League clash that could shore up the first League Tournament bid for the Mountain Hawks since On Saturday, the blog will be live from Annapolis when Army and Navy meet for the 90th time at 2 p.m. Live blogging coverage continues Sunday from Lehigh when the Mountain Hawks host No. 10/9 North Carolina in a non-league game at Goodman Stadium. Fans will be able to follow the action right on PatriotLeague.org. CBS Sports Network Televises Two This Weekend Two contests involving Patriot League teams will hit the national television airwaves this weekend. Army visits Navy on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., and CBS Sports Network will carry the game live. A big non-league matchup between No. 10/9 North Carolina and Lehigh on Sunday from Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem, Pa., will also be aired live on CBS Sports Network.
