1 THE BRIEF Republic f Ireland L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Terms and Cnditins 2019 Entrants must create a well-executed, inspiratinal, mdern clur shwcasing a female lk. This must be cmplemented by a beautiful style, finish and ttal lk taking inspiratin frm upcming trends. Entrants can interpret this as they see fit but the final lk must share the same values as L Oréal Prfessinnel. These are: Fashin: Taking inspiratin frm trends Innvatin: Classic elements, with a brand new twist Pineering: A clur that has nt been dne befre and culd be a future trend The wrk presented must always be exceptinally executed and technically crrect. The hair clur will be the verriding factr in any decisin making prcess. GENERAL The cmpetitin is pen t all Irish residents (wh are clurists) aged between 16 and 25 n the clsing date f entry which is Mnday 18 February 2019, with the exceptin f L Oréal (UK) Limited emplyees and freelancer cnsultants engaged by L Oréal (UK) Limited s Prfessinal Prducts Divisin, their immediate families r friends, r anyne cnnected with such persns r the cmpetitin. If such cnnectin is discvered, relevant entrants will autmatically be disqualified. Any hairstylist brught alng by an entrant clurist must be an Irish resident aged 16 r ver n the clsing date specified. Prf f age, such as a phtcpy f passprt, will be checked at L Oréal Prfessinnel s discretin upn entry. Failure t prduce age ID will result in disqualificatin. The cmpetitin pens n Wednesday 2 January 2019 and clses n Mnday 18 February L Oréal reserves the right t revise this date and extend the perid fr accepting entries t the cmpetitin in the event f circumstances arising beynd its reasnable cntrl. Late entries will nt be permitted. Entries must be upladed nt Entrants must nly use L Oréal Prfessinnel clur and styling prducts n the mdel and n ther prducts. Entry t the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award is free. Entrants may nt enter the same picture fr mre than ne award categry. Each team that enters must create a unique username and address upn entry. This is a cmpetitin fr individuals nly and the prize will be awarded t the saln f the individual clurist in cnjunctin with the individual clurist. If the individual clurist leaves their saln they frfeit their prize experience. The individual entrant (and any hairstylist invited t jin the entrant s team) must get their saln wner(s) cnsent t enter int this cmpetitin. The clurist may bring alng a hairstylist frm the saln t assist in the styling f the mdel as a third team member, but this is nt mandatry, therefre the team entering the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award shuld cnsist f n mre than three (3) peple (including the mdel). There are 3 ROI award categries: 1) ROI - The L Oréal Clur Trphy Award, 2) ROI - L Oréal Men s Image Award and 3) ROI - L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award (this categry). 1

2 Only ne team frm the same saln can enter a categry i.e. a saln cannt have tw r mre cmpeting teams in the same categry. The same saln can enter ne team in each f the 3 ROI categries (meaning a maximum f 3 teams can be entered by the same saln acrss the 3 categries). Any teams entered by a saln must be cmprised f a unique set f individuals. N individual can enter in mre than ne team, whether in the same r different rle. An individual can nly enter 1 ut f the abve 3 categries. An individual can nly enter 1 team within its 1 chsen categry. An individual may enter in a dual rle as bth a clurist and stylist within its team. An individual wh has been invited t judge the cmpetitin fr any categry is nt permitted t enter the cmpetitin in any categry. Fr the avidance f dubt, an individual may nly enter nce acrss the 3 abve ROI categries as well as the 4 UK categries. During the cmpetitin, the team member in the rle f clurist cannt change and the team member in the rle f stylist cannt change. The clurist and stylist full names must be cnfirmed in the entry frm and must remain the same thrughut the cmpetitin. Prf f ID, such as passprt r driver s license will be checked by L Oréal Prfessinnel t verify the team names at the Semi-Final and Grand Final. If the stylist is unable t be a part f the cmpeting team (whether they leave the saln r fr any ther reasn), the clurist can cntinue n their wn and cannt include a new stylist in the team. If the clurist cannt cntinue t be a part f the cmpeting team (whether they leave the saln r fr any ther reasn), then the team will be disqualified. If an individual enters in a dual rle as bth stylist and clurist and is unable t be a part f the cmpeting team, then the team will be disqualified. L Oréal Prfessinnel will nly deviate frm this rule in the case f exceptinal circumstances (such as death, disability r serius illness) t be determined at L Oréal s sle discretin. Shuld the entrant saln be successful after the Phtgraphic Entry stage and g thrugh t the Semi-Final stage, they are nt required t recreate the winning lk frm the phtgraphic entry stage; therefre the mdel, hairstylist, clthes, make-up and hairstyle may change between the Phtgraphic Entry stage and the Semi-Final stage. Shuld the entrant saln be successful at the Semi-Final stage and g thrugh t the Grand Final, the mdel, hairstylist, clthes, make-up and hairstyle must remain the same at bth Semi-Final stage and Grand Final. The mdels used at all stages f the cmpetitin must be 16 r ver and have had an allergy alert test 48 hurs befre the clur applicatin r have cmpleted the L Oréal Prfessinal Safety prtcl. The entrant saln must be trading at the time f entry. If the saln is trading with L Oréal (UK) Limited, it must be fully cmpliant with L Oréal (UK) Limited s cnditins f sale and credit terms at all stages f the cmpetitin. At any pint in the cmpetitin, teams must be prepared t answer questins frm the judges and L Oréal Prfessinnel Educatin Managers abut their cluring technique and prducts used. All prizes awarded t the saln must be claimed during the saln s winning year frm Mnday 27 May 2019 t Tuesday 26 May The judges decisins are final and n crrespndence will be entered int regarding any decisins. The prizes are as stated and there are n alternatives r cash substitutes. Strictly n under 16 s will be allwed admissin t any stages f this cmpetitin. 2

3 Entrants grant L Oréal (UK) Limited with a transferrable, exclusive, wrldwide, ryalty free and perpetual license in all cpyright, mral r ther rights under the Cpyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 t use the phts and any materials, vides and images generated during the L Oréal Clur Trphy cmpetitin (whether they prceed t the Semi-Final and Grand Final r nt) fr any purpse whatsever (including withut limitatin, use n L Oréal websites, Facebk pages and blgs, prmtin f the L Oréal Clur Trphy event, PR cntent print and nline, editrial, advertising and advertrial cntent, trade press and 2019 cmpetitin prmtin print and nline and educatinal r internal purpses, etc.) T enter the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award, the entrant must submit 2 phts - a befre pht f the mdel (taken frm the frnt r side nly) prir t any clur applicatin, and an after pht f the mdel nce the hair has been clured. The winning individual, and their affiliated saln and team members must be prepared t take part in publicity accmpanying r resulting frm the cmpetitin. N additinal cmpensatin will be awarded fr such prmtinal activities. At its sle discretin, L Oréal Prfessinnel may decide t allw salns t use its images. Any images supplied by L Oréal Prfessinnel t any saln must always be credited t L Oréal Prfessinnel Clur Trphy when being used fr any purpse whatsever. If the prize is declined r if the winner frfeits the prize under these terms and cnditins, then the judges may at their abslute discretin select an alternative winner. L Oréal Prfessinnel reserves the right in its abslute discretin t, acting in the interests f fairness, add t r waive any f these terms and cnditins. This includes, but is nt limited t, bullying r aggressive behaviur twards thers (fr example nly, threats r vilence twards members f staff, crew, ther entrants and/r venue staff), racism, hmphbia, misgyny, religius intlerance. By entering this cmpetitin, entrants will be deemed t be bund by and have accepted these terms and cnditins. PHOTOGRAPHIC ENTRY STAGE Entrants must cmplete their entry frm nline n Entrants must shwcase a female lk interpreting the Brief. Entrants must uplad their entry phts which must be: an aspect rati f 1:1.41 and a minimum reslutin f 1080 pixels in height; in clur; in ne f the fllwing file types nly: png,.jpg,.jpeg,.gif; and n mre than 1 year ld at the date f entry The phtgraphs may be head r full-length shts. Entries will nly be accepted if they are upladed nt the fficial website with the fully cmpleted entry frm. Incmplete, illegal, misdirected r late entries will nt be valid. Prf f cmplying with these requirements will nt be accepted as prf f receipt r entry. 3

JUDGING CRITERIA FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC ENTRY STAGE The phtgraphic entries will be judged by a minimum f ten (10) hairdressing industry leaders selected by L Oréal Prfessinnel. The judges will need t select a maximum f ten (10) entrants t g thrugh t the Semi-Final based n the phtgraphic entry criteria utlined belw. The after phtgraph submitted must shwcase the entrant s interpretatin f the Brief. The phtgraph will be judged n the clur that s been created n the mdel s hair and the verall finished cut and/r styling. Wefts, weaves and extensins cvering a maximum 20% f the head using L Oréal Prfessinnel Clur can be used. N full wigs are allwed. MARKING CRITERIA FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC ENTRY STAGE All 2019 L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award entries judged n the criteria utlined abve will be marked in the fllwing way: Each f the judges will be required t scre each phtgraphic entry frm 1 t 10, with 1 being utstanding and 10 being pr. All f the judges marks fr each entry will be added up in rder t calculate the psitins f each entry frm first psitin (that entry with the lwest scre) t last psitin (that entry with the highest scre). Each entry will be scred and nly a maximum f 10 entries will be allwed t g thrugh t the Semi Final. These (maximum) 10 entries will be the tp 10 (r less) entries with the lwest scres. Shuld a tie ccur, the head judge f the judging panel (as selected by L Oréal Prfessinnel) will make the final decisin as t wh shuld g thrugh based n the phtgraphic judging criteria utlined abve. A list f the maximum ten (10) entrants successfully thrugh t the Semi-Final can be btained by lking n frm 12pm n Wednesday 6 March All entrants will be ntified whether they have gne thrugh t the Semi-Final by by Friday 8 March SEMI FINAL STAGE Semi -Final will take place n Sunday 24 March 2019 at RDS, Merrin Rd., Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. All cmpetitin teams must arrive at 3.30pm at the venue t register with L Oréal Prfessinnel. All members f the cmpetitin team (including the mdel) must be present at registratin. If the team has nt registered with L Oréal Prfessinnel by 5.30pm the team will be autmatically disqualified. All Semi-Finalists will need t ensure that their chsen mdel has cmpleted and signed a mdel release frm The clurist and stylist names (excluding the mdel) must crrespnd t the names that were submitted n the entry frm at the Phtgraphic Entry stage. L Oréal Prfessinnel will nly deviate frm this rule in the case f exceptinal circumstances (such as serius illness, disability r death) t be determined at L Oréal Prfessinnel s sle discretin. All Semi-Finalists will be required t prduce a phtgraph f the mdel prir t any clur wrk perfrmed n the hair dated n lder than the 1 January This pht must be a frnt r side view f the mdel and will be shwn t the 4

5 judges s they can understand the expertise and extent f the clur wrk perfrmed n the mdel. Failure t d this will result in disqualificatin. All Semi-Finalists will als be required t bring alng a md-bard t best demnstrate their inspiratins behind their finished lk. This will be shwn t the judges. The Star Clurist and mdel will be given 1 free ticket each t attend the Semi-Final. If the Star Clurist has a hairstylist assisting them, then this persn will als receive 1 free ticket t the Semi-Final. These tickets are strictly nntransferrable. All hair clur applicatin and rinsing ff must be cmpleted prir t arriving at the Semi-Final venue. There is n prvisin fr entrants t clur hair at the venue. Prir t the live cmpetitin starting, the mdel s hair can be nly in ne f these 4 states: Damp, pre-damp ready t be dried/styled; Dry ready t be damped dwn and dried/styled; Dry, ready t be styled; r En-pli/prepped and/r set with rllers/bendies still in - these cannt be remved prir t the start f the cmpetitin. When the Star Clurist arrives, they will have up t 10 minutes with the judges, and will be required t bring their mdel int the judge s rm t present their mdel and md bard t the judges wh will: Fully examine and lk thrugh the mdel s hair t understand and technically examine the clur technique and applicatin, and cnfirm that nly L Oréal Prfessinnel prducts have been used n the mdel s hair. The befre pht f the mdel must als be presented at this stage. Interview the Star Clurist t understand their inspiratin, techniques and the clurs they have used n the mdel; Interview the Star Clurist n their aspiratins and career as clurists. Mdels shuld be dressed prir t the cmpetitin start. They will be prvided with a L Oréal Prfessinnel gwn n registratin. By 5.30pm, nly the Star Clurist r nminated stylist and mdel must be at their tables n the cmpetitin flr. If they are nt at the table at this time it culd result in disqualificatin. Once the mdel and clurist/stylist have entered the cmpetitin flr, the mdel s state f hair cannt change and the clurist/stylist cannt tuch the hair until the cmpetitin starts. Once the live cmpetitin starts, the clurist/stylist will have 30 minutes t style and dress the hair as desired fllwing the.brief. Only the clurist/stylist is allwed n the flr. This will be strictly enfrced by the L Oréal Prfessinnel staff during the cmpetitin time and any ther team members present at the wrkstatin will be asked t leave immediately. Nne f the team members invlved may leave the flr during the cmpetitin. N smking r drinking is allwed n the cmpetitin flr. Previusly clured wefts, weaves and extensins cvering a maximum f 20% f the head using L Oréal Prfessinnel clur can be used. N full wigs are allwed. Cutting will be allwed n the cmpetitin flr. The mdel may sit r stand during the judging. The judges are allwed t mve the mdel in rder t judge different angles and the mdels will be catwalked t assess their animatin. The judging will take up t 45 minutes. The mdel will be phtgraphed and videed during the judging. Five (5) L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award finalists will be selected frm the ten (10 (maximum) teams at the Semi-Final t g thrugh t the Grand Final. The five (5) individual clurists and their mdels will be invited tgether n stage fr phtgraphs. JUDGING CRITERIA FOR SEMI-FINAL STAGE 5

6 The cmpetitin will be judged by a minimum f five (5) hairdressing industry leaders selected by L Oréal Prfessinnel. The cmpetitrs must demnstrate they are able t fllw the Brief. During the interview prcess, the finalists will be assessed n the fllwing: Placement f clur n the live mdel Md bard Result f applicatin n the live mdel Overall ttal lk assessed n the cmpetitin flr Their cnfidence, presentatin skills and passin when they are interviewed n their ambitins as clurists Judges will be supplied with tail cmbs in rder t finally check the result f the applicatin f the clur by the finalists. Wefts, weaves and extensins cvering a maximum 20% f the head using L Oréal Prfessinnel Clur can be used. N full wigs are allwed. Mdels d nt have t be prfessinal but they have t be cnfident, selfassured, wn their lk and walk cnvincingly dwn the catwalk. The clthes, makeup and accessries shuld enhance and cmplement the verall lk that the clurist and hair stylist have created. MARKING CRITERIA FOR SEMI-FINAL STAGE Judging marks are split as fllws: 40% clur result, 40% - perfrmance during the interview and 20% - the verall ttal lk created after the live cmpetitin. Each f the judges select their 1st, 2nd etc. t 10th fr each Semi Finalist and indicate n their marking sheet 1, 2 t 10 fr their placing with 1 being their favurite and 10 their least favurite. The marks frm all the judges are then averaged fr each entrant in rder t calculate the psitins f each frm 1st t last relative t ne anther. After a discussin between the judges, five (5) ut f the ten (10) will be selected t g thrugh t the Grand Final. If a unanimus decisin cannt be reached by the judges the five (5) highest marked entrants will g thrugh. The five (5) Grand Finalists will be annunced n stage at the Semi -Final shw later n in the evening. Once the judging is cmpleted, all cmpetitin teams will need t leave the cmpetitin flr. GRAND FINAL STAGE The L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Grand Final cmpetitin awards event will take place n 27 May 2019 at the Claytn Htel, Burlingtn Rad, 4 Leesn Street, Upper Dublin. 4. The clurist and mdel will be given 1 free ticket each t attend the Grand Final awards event. If the clurist has a hairstylist assisting them, then this persn will als receive 1 free ticket t the Grand Final awards event. These tickets are strictly nn-transferrable. All team members (including the mdel) that made up the team which wn at the Semi -Final must attend the Grand Final. The Prmter will nly deviate frm this in the case f exceptinal circumstances (such as death, disability r serius illness) t be determined at L Oréal s sle discretin. Fr all L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Grand Finalists wh qualify fr the Grand Final, the mdel, hair clur, hair style, clthes and make-up must remain the same as presented at the Semi-Final. On Mnday 27 May 2019, the five (5) L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award finalist mdels must reprt t L Oréal Prfessinnel at the Grand Final venue, the Claytn Htel, Burlingtn Rad, 4 Leesn Street, Upper Dublin 4 at 4.30pm 6

7 dressed and styled as per the Semi-Final. L Oréal will verify this as fllws: The mdels at the Semi-Final will be phtgraphed bth clse up and full length. At the Grand Final mdels will be scrutinised by L Oréal and if the mdels are nt exactly the same as at the Semi- Final, the team will be given the pprtunity t crrect the lk n the spt. If the team are unable t d this, they will be instantly disqualified. The mdels will be escrted by L Oréal staff wh will then wrk with the mdels t rehearse a catwalk that they will perfrm later that evening at the L Oréal Clur Trphy Grand Final awards event. The Clurist must arrive at 6.30pm at the Claytn Htel fr a briefing with L Oréal Prfesinnel as they will be presented n stage with their mdel during the mdel catwalk. After this, they will als be allwed access t their mdel in rder t re-tuch the hair prir t their catwalk in frnt f the assembled crwd. They will be given wristbands in rder t gain entry t the venue prir t the rest f the guests. The verall L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award winner will be annunced at the L Oréal Clur Trphy Grand Final n the evening f Mnday 27 May GRAND FINAL MARKING CRITERIA The judging fr the Grand Final will be cnducted as fllws: Each f the judges is required t select frm the 5 (maximum) L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Grand Finalists an verall winner. Each f the judges select their 1st, 2nd etc. t 5th frm the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Grand Finalists and indicate n their marking sheet 1, 2 t 5 fr their placing with 1 being their favurite and 5 their least favurite. All f the judges marks are averaged fr each entrant in rder t calculate the psitins f each frm 1st t last relative t ne anther. The tp 2 (tw) will be discussed between the judges wh will then agree unanimusly wh verall shuld be placed as the 2019 L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award Winner. If a unanimus decisin cannt be reached by the judges the entrant wh is first placed based n the judges placing will be the verall winner. THE PRIZE The L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award winner will becme part f the L Oréal Prfessinnel Clur Academy 2019/2020, which is a ne year develpment prgramme where they will be inspired and educated by clurists frm the UK. They will be mentred thrugh a bespke develpment prgramme t gain a deeper technical understanding f clur while being given ideas and techniques t build their creativity. The verall winner wh becmes part f the L Oréal Prfessinnel Clur Academy lks frward t a full year f activities which culd include: Wrking with tp industry clurists t evlve their creativity n dates thrughut the winning year. The dates will be cnfirmed by L Oréal Prfessinnel but the sessins will take place in r arund September 2019, February 2020 and May L Oréal will prvide reasnable transprtatin csts (and ne night s htel accmmdatin where necessary) t attend these sessins. Alngside the abve activity, the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award winner will wrk with a L'Oréal Prfessinnel Educatin Cnsultant t develp a deeper understanding f L Oréal Prfessinnel clur prducts and services. One (1) free ticket t attend the L Oréal Clur Trphy Grand Final L Oréal Prfessinnel will cnfirm the date, venue and agenda, but will nt prvide transprtatin, htel accmmdatin and/r subsistence csts t attend this event. This ticket is strictly nn-transferrable. 7

8 In additin t the abve, the L Oréal Clur Trphy Star Award winner will als attend a Eurpean trip frm 8 t 9 July 2019 fr the winning hair stylist and hair clurist t phtgraph the winning lk (the mdel will nly be required fr the sht day n Mnday 8 July 2019). L Oréal Prfessinnel will cnfirm the venue and agenda, and prvide reasnable transprtatin, htel accmmdatin and subsistence csts t attend this trip. The phtgraphs prduced will be used t prmte the saln s win in lcal press and hairdressing trade publicatins during the saln s winning year and t prmte the L Oréal Clur Trphy cmpetitin fr the fllwing year. In cnsideratin fr the pprtunities, expsure and experience granted by L Oréal (UK) Limited in the winning year, the winning saln and team agree t grant L Oréal (UK) Limited a transferable, exclusive, wrldwide, ryalty free licence in all cpyright, mral and ther rights created during the cmpetitin and prize year and agree t sign a release and cnsent frm t be prvided by L Oréal. 8
