END OF THE (VERY BRIEF) ROAD: The Chicago Cubs, winners of six of their last seven games, today complete a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park after taking the first two games by scores of 7-2 and 7-1 last night, Jake Arrieta improved to 6-0 as he spun 7.0 shutout innings and drove in a run while Kris Bryant was 3-for-5 with a run and a RBI Anthony Rizzo had two doubles for the second-straight game, driving in a run and scoring a run. The Cubs have gone 21-3 in their last 24 regular season road games dating to the nightcap of a doubleheader in Pittsburgh on September 15 of last season Chicago has outscored their opponents during this stretch, a run differential of +91. Chicago is the first big league team to win 21 of 24 regular season road games since the 2013 Los Angeles Dodgers, who also won 22 of 25 during that run thanks to STATS Inc. EARLY RETURNS: At 19-6, the Cubs are off to their best start through 25 games in 109 years since the team was 21-4 to start the 1907 campaign (22-4 through 26 games). Including this three-game set, the Cubs have won seven of nine series this season, and their first five road series of a season for the first time since winning their first six in 1995 Monday night s victory gave Chicago wins in eight of nine series openers this year.
