Central Division champions, today play the third of four games against the Milwaukee Brewers after Miguel Montero yesterday hit a walk-off solo homer in the 10th inning to give Chicago a 5-4 victory to even this series it marked Montero s second extra-inning walk-off hit of the season as he delivered a walk-off single, August 29 Pittsburgh, to give the Cubs an 8-7, 13-inning win. Montero is the lone Cub this season with multiple walk-off hits in extra innings in 2015, Starlin Castro and Chris Denorfia had multiple walk-off game winners in extras for Chicago. CENTRAL CHAMPIONS: Chicago, which appeared in the 2015 postseason as the N.L. Wild Card, will advance to consecutive postseasons for just the fourth time in franchise history the club first turned the trick way back in 1885 and 1886, and did so again from both and The Cubs clinched the division in 146 games, the fewest number of games Chicago has clinched its division in the divisional era (since 1969), as well as the earliest the Cubs have clinched a playoff spot all-time (thanks STATS, Inc.). The previous team to clinch a division with 16 or more games remaining in a season was the 2008 Angels they clinched the A.L. West with 17 games remaining. This marked the earliest clinch by a club in the N.L. Central Division since it was created in 1994 it surpasses the 2004 Cardinals, who clinched with 13 games left on their schedule. COMFORTS OF HOME: This marks just the seventh season since moving to Wrigley Field in 1916 that Chicago has won at least 52 games at home the Cubs won 56 games at Wrigley Field in both 1933 and 1935, 55 home games in 2008, 53 home games in 1932 and 52 home games in 1928, 1929 and this season. Hendricks has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his 20 starts dating to May 22 (1.59 ERA), the longest streak by any big league pitcher this season he is the fourth Cubs starting pitcher in the 30 years to allow three earned runs or fewer in 20-straight starts, joining Jake (29, ), Mike Morgan (27, 1992) and Frank Castillo (23, ).
