The Cubs lost six of their first seven games against A.L. opponents this season, but have won nine of their last 10 dating to July 5 vs. Tampa Bay since the All- Star Break the club has swept Baltimore, taken three of four from the White Sox and won the first two games of this set vs. Toronto the Cubs are one of five N.L. clubs with a winning record this season against the rival American League. LEGEN WADE FOR IT DARY: Cubs closer Wade Davis yesterday converted his franchise-record-tying 26th-consecutive save opportunity he and Ryan Dempster (26 straight from August 2, 2005-May 1, 2006) now share the all-time Cubs mark. Dating to September 3 of last season, Davis has now locked down 32-straight save opportunities, the second-longest active streak behind Zach Britton s 57- consecutive saves. Since becoming a full-time reliever on September 4, 2013, Davis has posted a 1.38 ERA (36 ER/235.1 IP), the lowest mark by far among all relief pitchers (Zach Britton is next closest with a 1.66 ERA) his rate of 0.27 HR/9 IP is also the lowest rate among all relief pitchers since his move to the bullpen in His.800 winning percentage is tied for the second-best among relievers in that span while his 24 wins are tied for the fourth-most. WELL, THAT HAPPENED: After crushing two solo homers Thursday, Ian Happ went deep again in yesterday s win, making him one of two Cubs players to collect 18 homers in his first 80-career games played, joining teammate Kyle Schwarber. Happ ranks among the N.L. rookie leaders in homers (5th, 18), runs scored (t-4th, 41), RBI (5th, 44), walks (t-5th, 26) and OPS (min. 290 plate appearances,.838). The rookie matched up against Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ (no relation) in Friday s contest, marking the first at-bat between the only two Happs to ever reach the majors. THE REST OF THE WAY: Of the 40 games remaining for the Cubs this season, 26 are against teams currently owning a record at or below.500, or 65 percent of them the Cubs do not play a club currently with a winning record until September 8 vs. Milwaukee. The Cubs play 27 of their final 40 games against N.L. Central division foes, or 68 percent of them the Cubs are vs. the N.L.
