Elias Sports Bureau notes that only three other Cubs pitchers in the last 30 seasons since 1988 have completed shutouts in which they allowed no extrabase hits and struck out 10 or more Kerry Wood did it three times (1998, 2001, 2003) while Carlos Zambrano (Sept. 14, 2008) and Jake Arrieta (Aug. 30, 2015) did so in no-hit efforts. Quintana is the first Cubs lefty to spin a shutout since Rich Hill did so, Sept. 16, 2006, in a 4-0 win vs. the Reds the previous Cubs lefty to toss a shutout on the road was Glendon Rusch, June 2, 2005, at the Padres in a 5-0 victory. WHAT LIES AHEAD: The Cubs, 10-2 in their last 12 games and 18-8 in their last 26, have just seven regular season games remaining this four-game Cardinals series completes a 10-game trip that started last week in Tampa Bay (1-1) and continued this past weekend in Milwaukee (3-1) the Cubs return home following this series to close out the regular season with three games vs. Cincinnati, starting Friday.
