Junior School Games Report Junior School Gym Club This year all the girls in Year 4 have attended Gym Club and have gained in confidence on the apparatus. They have had the opportunity to take their British Gymnastics awards and all girls passed at least 2 awards. Many thanks to Isabella Poppy, Ineasa Sanghera and Lilly Addlington who have given up their time to help out every week. Junior School Hockey Years 5 and 6 have been busy improving their stickwork and knowledge of the game of Hockey this year. They have played 4 matches with the Year 6 team winning 3 matches and drawing 1, the Year 5 team losing 2, drawing 1 and winning 1. The Year 5 team has improved throughout the season. This bodes well for the teams next year. Giorgia Dalley is to be congratulated on being selected to play for Warwickshire U13, even though she is still in Year 6 Colours are awarded to: Martha Whatley, Evie Cadman, Grace Pimlott, Isobel Hall, Giorgia Dalley and Katie Smallwood. Year 5 Netball 24 girls have attended Netball practice every week. They have experienced both 7- a- side and High Five matches and their ability to adapt to the different aspects of each is pleasing. Year 5 have played in the Solihull Borough League 2 and this has proved to be a tough league as they have mainly played against Year 6 teams. However the Year 5s have risen to the challenge and have gained good experience for next year. At the Solihull School Invitation tournament in September the Year 5 team played so well considering it was their first experience of match play. They won 1 game, drew 2 games and lost 1. They qualified for the play offs and finished 3 rd overall in the tournament.

Year 6 Netball The Year 6 squad are full of energy and enthusiasm which has been successfully channelled towards both High Five and 7 a-side Netball. In Solihull League 1 our A team have played 7 matches and won 4 which ensures they finish in third place in the league. The Year 6 B team have also been in League 1 and this has proved to be a tough group for them. They have remained positive and enthusiastic and won their match against Monkspath. The Year 6 A team played in the Borough High Five Tournament. They played 7 fast paced matches and won every game scoring a total of 40 goals and only conceding 7. They were therefore pronounced Borough Champions and went on to represent Solihull in the Level 3 County games. In this competition they came 2 nd in their group only losing 1 game. They then went onto play Welford School and at full time the score was 3-3 which meant playing extra time for 3 minutes. The final score for this game was 5-3 which meant the girls narrowly missed out playing in the final for 1 st and 2 nd position. The team finished in 4 th place in the tournament. Well done girls!

The A team also took part in the prestigious GSA tournament. This 7 a side event involved some excellent teams. Out of the 9 matches they won 6, drew 1 and lost 2. They were placed 5 th overall in the tournament. The team continued their run of success when 8 girls took part in the Solihull Netball Skills competition for the first time in 5 years. Week after week the girls practiced working not only on the netball skills but also on their agility, fitness and team work. They worked against the clock completing a set amount of skills trying to finish them in the quickest time possible. Their commitment, hard work and ability to remain calm on the day of the competition meant they completed the skills with their best recorded time ever and finished second overall in the whole competition. Colours are awarded to: Evie Cadman, Martha Whatley, Grace Pimlott, Giorgia Dalley, Isobel Hall, Phoebe Payne, Katie Smallwood and Ria Odedra. Junior School Biathlon 20 girls from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Solihull Primary Schools Biathlon which was held at Saint Martin s. Over 180 children took part in the event and the competition consisted of a 25m swim and a 400m run. Charlotte Inshaw was our most successful swimmer coming in first place for our school and 2 nd place in the whole competition. In the 400m run our success continued with Isobel Hall, Freya Gallagher, Giorgia Dalley and Rebecca Prosser who recorded some good times. Their results along with the rest of the team gave us first place overall in the competition. The team went on to take part in the Level 3 Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull School Games. The competition consisted of a 400m run and a 33m Swim which was slightly longer than we were used to. The girls had some pleasing results and this placed us as winners overall in the event. Congratulations to Freya Gallagher, Rebecca Prosser, Charlotte Inshaw, Giorgia Dalley, Grace Pimlott and Isobel Hall.

Cross Country This year the Borough Cross Country Championships took place in October and saw over 100 runners in the girls race. We entered 3 teams which consisted of 20 girls from across Years 4, 5 and 6. They all did really well to finish the long arduous course. Outstanding individual successes came from Isobel Hall who came 5 th, Freya Gallagher who came 7 th, Giorgia Dalley and Darcie Peers who came in the top 20 runners. The C team finished in 14 th position, the B team in 7 th position and our A team were placed in First position to become Borough Champions. Colours are awarded to Giorgia Dalley, Isobel Hall, Evie Cadman and Grace Pimlott. Junior School Trampolining 24 girls from year 5 and 6 girls have thoroughly enjoyed participating in Trampolining club during lunchtimes. The girls have created sequences incorporating all the basic jumps and combinations. They are now working on performing front somersaults and some have achieved this without support.

Junior School Football We have had an enormously successful season with the Year 5 and 6 Football team. We remain unbeaten and have progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Shield Knockout Tournament with games still to play. So far we have recorded 10-0 and 4-0 results in the tournament. The girls have put into practice the skills that they have worked very hard to master and have really reaped the rewards. Isobel Hall has captained extremely well and supported the team throughout training and fixtures to ensure exceptional effort from everyone that has played under her. Georgia Dalley has been incredibly prolific as our striker and has scored countless goals as well as serving as a very reliable Vice-Captain. Very well done to all of the girls involved and a special thanks to Mr. Deakin, Mrs. Pimlott, Mrs Higley and Hannah Higley for your support in training and at fixtures. Good luck for the rest of the FA shield tournament that is still ongoing. Junior School Swimming On Thursday 16 February Saint Martin s hosted the Junior School Swimming Gala. Girls from Year 3 through to Year 6 took part in 56 swimming events! There were some excellent effort and team work skills demonstrated by all the girls involved. Congratulation to Rebecca Prosser in Year 5 who broke the Front Crawl record and to Charlotte Inshaw in Year 6 who broke the Backstroke and Butterfly record. Saint Martin s have competed in 8 swimming events over the Autumn and Spring terms. Year 6 have competed in all events with Year 3, 4 and 5 also representing the school in some of these swimming events. Saint Martin s have recorded some excellent results, successfully defeating Bromsgrove School, Balsall Common, Eversfield and King Henry s.

National Swimming Championships Relays On Friday 17 March the U11 Swimming Team competed in the above Gala hosted at Warwick School. The girls competed against mixed teams of boys and girls and achieved amazing results, winning both the freestyle and medley relays. This means they have qualified for the Finals to be held on Saturday 17 June in Sheffield. Congratulations to Giorgia Dalley, Charlotte Inshaw, Isobel Hall, Matilda Bungey and Rebecca Prosser. Colours are awarded: to Isobel Hall, Giorgia Dalley, Charlotte Inshaw and Matilda Bungey. A busy but brilliant term for all Junior School Sport!

Senior School Games Report Hockey This year has been a busy season for the Hockey teams. 21 Year 7 s have attended practices every week and have been working on improving their skills and trying to be more competitive. The Year 7s have played 7-a-side matches this year and both the A and B teams have played 8 matches. The A team have lost 4, drawn 1 and won 3. The B team lost 4 and won 4. The Year 8 team have had a very successful season, also playing 8 matches. They have won 7 and drawn 1. They finished 3 rd in the West Midlands tournament and were runners-up in the In2Hockey tournament. This enabled them to progress through to the County round in Cannock which aims to find the best team in the Midlands. Saint Martin s represented the West Midlands and played against Trent School from Derbyshire as their first match. We were slow to start and lost the match 2-0, although Saint Martin s were equal to, if not better than Trent if we had played to our full potential. This match had the desired effect and Saint Martin s upped their game, beating Wolverhampton Grammar School from Staffordshire 1-0, Worksop from Nottinghamshire 3-0 and Oakham from Leicestershire 2-0. Finishing 2 nd in the group we went on to play Kings Worcester from Worcestershire in the Quarter Final. Saint Martin s were delighted to win 1-0 and went on to play Loughborough School in the Semi Final. Saint Martin s scored the first goal but unfortunately Loughborough fought back to win 3-1. This is the furthest we have ever got in this competition and to finish in 3 rd / 4 th place out of 18 schools in the whole of the Midlands is an amazing result. Well done to the whole team and for your determination and hard work! Colours are awarded to : Sharondip Jheeta, Ellie Pimlott, Nina Harper, Marianne Mahoney, Charlotte Watson, Amelia Bogira, Sophie Tudor, Joanna Minshull, Francesca Donovan, Grace Harrison, Karis Capelin, Ella May and Grace Meehan.

The Year 9 team have also been very successful. They won the Solihull Borough League and finished 3 rd in the West Midlands tournament. They played 10 matches, winning 7 and losing 3. Congratulations to Millie Gallagher, Sophie Tudor, Sharondip Jheeta, Francesca Donovan, Charlotte Watson and Amelia Bogira who were all selected to represent Warwickshire at U14 and U13 level this year. The Year 10 and 11 teams have played against KEHS, Stratford, Kings High, KE Fiveways and Kings Henry s. They have all worked hard with results being a mixture of wins, draws and occasional loss. Both teams also entered the Solihull Hockey U16 League. The Year 11s finished as runners-up in the League and the Year 10s won the League. This was an excellent result as they were playing Year 11 teams from other schools. This bodes well for next year. The Year 10 and 11s also entered the West Midlands Hockey tournaments. The Year 11s came 3 rd overall and the Year 10s came 4 th.

Colours are awarded to Hayley Langman (captain), Flo Whatley, Lucy Watson, Abigail Bednall, Becky Hardie, Jessica Murphy, Imogen Onions, Emily Jervis, Eve Armstrong, Rianna Sembi, Georgie Pearson and Elizabeth Gahan. In October Years 12 and 13 played in the U18 West Midlands Hockey tournament at KEHS and came 2 nd overall which meant they were selected to represent the West Midlands in the first round of the Midland Zone hockey tournament in Uttoxter. We played Denstone College, Northampton, Princethorpe and Oakham. The girls came up against tough opposition and the sheer strength of the other teams was too much to enable our girls to compete any further in the competition. However it was a wonderful experience for the girls and I would like to congratulate all girls for their commitment and team work. Colours are awarded to Georgina Brown, Mia Mahoney, Holly Allwood, Hannah Higley, Ana Monolescu, Francesca Pattinson, Anya McCutcheon Wells, Neha Sharma and Lily Chandler-Hussain.

Netball The Year 7 Club has been very popular and high attendance numbers have been maintained at all practices. The girls have enjoyed working on their skills and applying them in competitive match play games. There have been 17 netball matches this season and due to the continuing popularity of netball Saint Martin s have been able to host A and B fixtures for some schools. The girls have achieved some encouraging results, such as beating Saint Peter s 8-7, Langley 10-8 and Alderbrook teams entered the Year 7 Netball Borough Tournament held on Thursday 23 March at Lode Heath School. Saint Martin s achieved some excellent results beating Alderbrook 9-3, Heart of England 11-1, Coleshill 5-1 and Lyndon 5-2. This meant Saint Martin s qualified for the semi finals where they played Solihull School. It was a tough match and Saint Martin s eventually lost. But the girls demonstrated excellent team work, skill and shooting technique. There have been 11 Year 8 matches this season. The team play in the Solihull A Division and have demonstrated some excellent top quality netball, against some tough opposition. League results are still coming in but because the team lost one match by 1 goal and drew one match it will either mean the girls finish runners up or third in the League.

The Solihull Borough Netball Tournament was held on Wednesday 29 March. 12 teams entered and Saint Martin s won their group easily, defeating all the teams. In the semi final Saint Martin s played against Langley. In the league Saint Martin s had lost by one goal so we knew it would be close. Saint Martin s skill and determination enabled them to pull off a convincing victory, winning 9-2. In the final Saint Martin s played against Solihull School and even though Solihull managed to achieve the win, Saint Martin s performance continues to improve and the team must be congratulated on their Runners Up position. Colours are awarded to: Amelia Bogira, Charlotte Watson, Sharon Jheeta, Sophie Tudor, Ellie Pimlott, Grace Harrison, Ellena Gaspar and Karis Capelin. The Year 9 squad start the season well by winning the Solihull Netball Tournament! This enabled them to go through to the County Tournament, where they would play against the winners and runners up in Warwickshire and Coventry. This was held at North Leamington School and the competition was tough, with the Saint Martin s girls finishing in a respectable 4 th position.

In the Year 9 A League the girls have worked hard to maintain their high performance level. The League results are yet to be confirmed but as the girls lost one match by 1 goal and drew one match they will either finish as runners up or in third position. Year 10 Netball It gets tougher each year but again the Year 10 Netball Team were crowned Solihull A League Champions. The girls determined spirit and hard work has enabled them to maintain this remarkable achievement. The U15 Solihull Borough Tournament was hosted at Solihull School on Thursday 16 March. The girls were keen to maintain their unbeaten record since Year 5 and have been training hard in anticipation for this tournament. Saint Martin s won their group by successfully defeating Langley 6-3, Alderbrook 8-2, Light Hall 12-1 and Heart of England This meant that the two semi-finals were Saint Martin s v Tudor Grange and Solihull School v Langley. As Saint Martin s had only beaten Tudor Grange by 1 goal in their League match, we knew they would be tough competition. Saint Martin s determination and additional training had paid off and they successfully won the Semi-final 7-3. As Solihull School lost their semi final, Saint Martin s were to meet Langley again in the final. After the first few minutes Langley were winning 3-0, but the girls mature play and skill enabled them to pull back to 4-4 at half time. In the second half Saint Martin s exceptional game play meant that Langley were unable to score again and Saint Martin s pulled away to win Congratulations on their run of success this means that the Saint Martin s team have won the tournament for 6 continuous years an amazing achievement. So the Year 10 team have done the double again! Congratulations to Eve Armstrong, Emily Jervis and Imogen Onions who continue to represent the County of Warwickshire and again to Emily and Eve who also attend Regional Netball Training. It is from Regional Training that the Under 17 England netball team is selected.

Colours are awarded to: Jessica Murphy, Emily Jervis, Flo Whatley, Imogen Onions, Rianna Sembi, Eve Armstrong, Giselle Barker, Hayley Langman. Year 11 B League The Year 11 League originally had 5 teams listed, but with 3 schools dropping out, Saint Martin s Year 11 team played and won against Alderbrook 18-6 so they win the B League! Senior School Swimming 48 girls regularly swim for Saint Martin s from Years Weekly galas have been held against a variety of schools and we have swum against boys and girls. The Year 8 team was the most successful winning most of their galas. The Senior School swimming gala was a huge success with Shields emerging triumphant. Saint Martin s swam brilliantly at the Solihull Borough Championships to win the overall event for the 10 th Year running! This was achieved by the Year 7 and Year 9 teams finishing in 3 rd position, the Year 8 and 10 teams were Borough champions and the Senior team was runners-up in the Borough. Saint Martin s had 6 pupils named as Borough Champions in individual events. The Year 8 team now represent Solihull at the Level 3 games. In this competition Saint Martin s swam well with Carmen Whaley and Francesca Donovan finishing 2 nd in their events. All the results totalled together ensured that Saint Martin s finished in 3 rd position and they were awarded Bronze medals. Congratulations to Carmen Whaley, Melissa Hall, Francesca Donovan, Charlotte Watson and Lauryn Leedham.

Saint Martin s entered the Bromsgrove Invitation relays with a team from Year 8 but the competition was very tough and we finished 8 th and 10 th in the medley and freestyle finals. Colours are awarded to: Year 8: Ella May, Francesca Donovan, Carmen Whaley, Melissa Hall, Karis Capelin, Nina Harper, Amelia Bogira, Charlotte Watson and Lauryn Leedham, Year 10: Giselle Barker, Lucy Watson, Eve Dufficy, Imogen Onions and Hayley Langman Sixth Form: Mia Mahoney

Well done to the following girls: Ella May, Keavey McClean, Grace McDaid Meehan and Marianne Mahoney. Indoor Athletics The PE department are always looking to enhance the curriculum and provide new opportunities for our pupils. With this in mind the Year 7s and 8s entered the Level 2 Indoor Athletics event run by Solihull Borough for the first time this year. It consisted of an obstacle course, sprinting using a reverse board and many indoor field events. It was certainly a learning curve and not having done the event before we did really well coming 4 th in Year 7 and 5 th in Year 8 out of 8 Solihull Schools. Well done to all the girls who participated. Year 7 Trampolining Club The Year 7 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed attending Trampolining Club. Pupils have enjoyed constructing sequences and working on more advanced moves which they may have previously found challenging. Trampolining Competiton Year 7, 8 & 9 For the first time Saint Martin s have entered the Solihull Borough Trampolining competition. Year 7, 8 & 9 have been practising set Skills and a set routine to perform in the competition. The girls have shown commitment to ensuring their routines are perfect ready for the competition.
