YEAH, I VE HEARD OF HIM: The Padres are faced with a diffi cult task this weekend, as they will face a pair of former Cy Young Award winners today in Justin Verlander and tomorrow with Max Scherzer...during the 2013 season, the Padres had decent success against former Cy Young Award winners in 2013, going on the season in games started by qualifi ed pitchers...the Friars went 4-1 against Barry Zito, 3-1 vs. Clayton Kershaw, 1-0 vs. CC Sabathia, 1-1 vs. Cliff Lee, 0-1 vs. Felix Hernandez, 0-1 vs. Roy Halladay, 1-3 vs. Tim Lincecum and 0-4 vs. Zack Greinke. WELL-OILED ROTATION: Padres starters have pitched to a 2.95 ERA (19 ER, 58.0 IP) so far through 10 games this season, the seventh-best mark in the Majors and the fourth-best in the National League...dating back to April 5 at Miami, Padres starters have pitched to a 1.66 ERA (7 ER, 38.0 IP), the best mark in the Majors during that six-game stretch...since April 5th, Padres starters have allowed two earned runs or less in each of the six games. COMEBACK TRAIL: WEST TEXAS EDITION: Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin began a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso last night and went 1-for-2 with a RBI double and a run scored against Diamondbacks super-prospect Archie Bradley...Maybin, 27, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 29 (retro March 21) with a ruptured right biceps tendon suffered during spring training in a game against the Dodgers on March : This series with the Tigers will be Detroit s fourth matchup with the Padres and the third in San Diego since defeating the Padres, four games to one, in the 1984 World Series...the Friars only World Series victory in franchise history came against the Tigers in Game Two of the 84 Fall Classic on October 10, 1984 at Jack Murphy Stadium...the game was the last MLB playoff game to feature a designated hitter in a National League ballpark and was the last time a DH was used in a NL ballpark until the Blue Jays and Phillies used a DH in Philadelphia from June 25-27, 2010 (relocated game). INTERLEAGUE PLAY: San Diego began interleague play earlier this week in Cleveland and have posted a 2-2 record through four games the Padres are playing the AL Central in interleague this year, while also playing their natural rival, the Seattle Mariners the rest of interleague play this year will take the Padres to Chicago-AL (5/30-6/1), Seattle (6/16-17) and Minnesota (8/5-6) while San Diego will play host to Detroit (4/11-13), Kansas City (5/5-7), Minnesota (5/20-21) and Seattle (6/18-19) last season the Padres were 8-12 in interleague play including 3-7 on the road the Padres are all-time against the American League. PADRES SOCIAL HOUR: The Padres debuted this season a new, multimedia hour-long pregame show, Padres Social Hour, which will air live on padres.com and will be simulcast on FOX Sports San Diego and ESPN 1700 the club-produced show will air for an hour every day of the 2014 season prior to FOX Sports San Diego s pregame show, Padres Live, and will feature heavy social media integration host Jesse Agler will be joined by a rotation of co-hosts consisting of Padres alumni, broadcasters and members of the local media each show will feature appearances by special guests, including players, coaches and front office executives. 2 RHP - Ian Kennedy #22 BACK HOME: The 29-year-old will make his third start of the season today as he is coming off a winning effort in his last start on April 6 at Miami after he held the Marlins to just one run on three hits with fi ve strikeouts against one walk in 6.0 innings of work...took the loss in his Opening Day start at Petco Park after he allowed three runs on fi ve hits with four strikeouts and a walk over 5.0 innings of work on April 1 vs. LAD...enters his second season with the Padres and is on his fi rst Opening Day roster with the club after being acquired from Arizona on the July 31st trading deadline last year in exchange for LHP Joe Thatcher and minor league RHP Matt Stites...Kennedy owns a lifetime record with a 4.00 ERA in 145 Major League games, 143 of them starts, including a 4-2 record with a 4.24 ERA (27 ER, 57.1 IP) in 10 starts after coming over to the Padres mid-season in VS. THE TIGERS: Will be making his third career start and appearance against the Tigers today...owns a lifetime 0-1 record with a 5.56 ERA (7 ER, 11.1 IP) with six strikeouts against three walks in those games...over his career during Interleague Play, owns a 3-8 record with a 5.84 ERA (48 ER, 74.0 IP) over 12 starts. CAN I GET SOME HELP HERE?: Since becoming a starter for the Padres on July 23, 2013, Tyson has recieved a total of 28 runs in support over his 15 starts for an average of 1.87 runs per game, the lowest run support average in the Majors over that time...has recieved exactly one run in support in nine of his last 11 starts, the exception being a six-run game in his 2013 fi nale on September 29 at San Francisco and three runs in his last outing on April 8 against Cleveland. IN THE BALLPARK: In 94.0 innings as a starter in 2013, Ross allowed just fi ve home runs in those games for a 0.48 home runs per nine innings ratio, the 8thlowest mark among Major League starters with at least 80.0 innings pitched and the 6th-lowest mark in the National League...the ratio was the lowest by a Padres starter since Kevin Brown had a 0.28 HR/9 (8 HR, IP) during the 1998 season...has allowed just two home runs in his last eight starts dating back to August 26th...has allowed just one home run in 10.1 innings pitched so far this season.
