WITH A WIN TONIGHT: With a win this evening over the Giants, the Padres would improve to 10-7 this season against the Giants, securing their first season series victory over San Francisco since posting a 12-6 record against the Giants during the 2010 season. GRAND(AL) OLE TIME: Yasmani Grandal hit the first grand slam of his career last night with his bases-loaded home run in the 7th inning off Jean Machi it was the third grand slam by the Padres this season, joining the grand slam that Jedd Gyorko hit on May 9 vs, Miami and the slam that Gyorko hit on August 16 at St. Louis...his grand slam was the 18th in franchise history against the Giants, the Padres highest total against any opponent. Having also hit a solo home run in the 6th inning last night, the two homer game for Grandal is the second multi-homer game of his career, joining his two-homer effort on June 20, 2012 at Colorado, which was his fi rst career start his home runs that day came from each side of the plate it was the fourth multi-homer game of the season for the Padres, joining Tommy Medica on August 1 vs. ATL, Seth Smith on June 20 vs. LAD and Jedd Gyorko on May 9 vs. MIA. THAT MUST BE A HOMER, SIMPSON: The Padres logged four home runs in last night s game against the Giants as Will Venable, Yasmani Grandal (2) and Rene Rivera all went deep...it was their first four-homer game of the season and their first since hitting four home runs against the Giants on July 14 of last season at Petco Park. Per ESPN Stats & Info, the Padres have played the Giants 132 times at AT&T Park and last night was the first time the Padres have ever hit four home runs in this ballpark. With Venable and Grandal both hitting a home run in the sixth inning and Grandal and Rivera both hitting home runs in the 7th inning, last night marked the first time since April 4, 2005 at Colorado that the Padres recorded multiple two home run innings in the same game. KENNEDY APPROACHING IP: Entering play today, Ian Kennedy has pitched innings, 6.0 innings shy of the IP mark...if he gets to the IP plateau, it will be the third time in his career he s accomplished that feat, joining his IP in 2011 and IP in 2012 (both with Arizona). If Kennedy reaches this milestone, he ll be the 68th pitcher in Padres franchise history to accomplish the feat and the fi rst since Eric Stults threw innings last season...the last Padres right-handed pitcher to reach IP was Jon Garland in 2010, who pitched exactly innings. If he does not throw 6.0 innings today, Kennedy will be the fi rst pitcher in Padres franchise history to record 200 strikeouts in a season in which he pitched less than 200 innings.
