O WHAT A DEBUT: Odrisamer Despaigne, today s starting pitcher for the Padres, made his Major League debut on June 23 at San Francisco, pitching 7.0 shutout innings, striking out one and walking none. Per STATS, Inc, since the start of the 1914 season, Despaigne is just the seventh Major League pitcher to pitch 7.0 or more shutout innings and not allow a walk in his Major League debut. The last time the Friars went nine or more games without allowing a home run was May 6-14, 2007 when the staff also went 9 games without allowing a homer...the franchise record for games without a home run allowed is 10 games (done four times). Overall this season, the Padres have allowed just 62 home runs, the fifth-fewest in the Major Leagues. THE MAGIC NUMBER IS...: The Padres own a 26-4 record this season when scoring four or more runs...the Friars.867 winning percentage in these decisions is second-best in Major League Baseball, behind only the Washington Nationals (35-3,.921)...additionally, the Padres own a (.744) record this season when scoring three or more runs, the fifth-best winning percentage in Major League Baseball in these contests.
