What that means is that we give ur sns the pprtunity t lead each ther in a safe and cntrlled envirnment. They set their wn prgram and execute it thrugh the guidance f ur Scutmaster. If yu are a clset helicpter parent, this is ging t be difficult t watch. We never want ur children t struggle. Hwever, if we cntinue t speak up fr them, cntinue t cddle them, they will never knw what they can accmplish n their wn. Trp 811, like all By Scut trps, gives ur sns the pprtunity t make mistakes. As parents f lder scuts can attest, what better place t make a mistake than in a place surrunded by yur friends? Des that mean that we dn t d anything? The answer is N! We are here t prvide them the supprt. That s why we have the Trp Cmmittee and the Assistant Scutmaster prgram fr yu t jin. We give yu every pprtunity t be invlved because, frankly, withut yur help, the Trp des nt g. Be patient and we can tell yu that it will pay ff. In 2013, By Scuts f America said that 6 percent f all By Scuts earned the Eagle Scut rank s nt everyne will attain this rank. A patrl is a small grup f bys wh are similar in age, develpment, and interests. Wrking tgether as a team, patrl members share the respnsibility fr the patrl's success. They gain cnfidence by serving in psitins f patrl leadership. All patrl members enjy the friendship, sense f belnging, and achievements f the patrl and f each f its members. Our patrl leadership is elected every 6 mnths (February and August). We currently have 3 patrls cnsisting f scuts: Delta Frce, Purple Flaming Penguins (PFP), and Vipers. Page 3

4 Trp 811 Adult Leadership Christian Lising - Scutmaster (christianlising@mac.cm) Has ne sn, Nichlas, in the trp wh is a Star Scut. He was a Den Leader, Cubmaster, and Ppcrn Kernel with Pack 811 and was an Assistant Scutmaster fr 3 years. ~The reasn I jined Scuting is because it reinfrces the values my wife and I have nurtured at hme. In this fun envirnment, my sn is understanding the meaning f lyalty, cmmitment, faith, trustwrthiness, and kindness. At the end f the day, I want t lk back and say I was a gd influence n my sn and his friends. Scuting allws me t d just that Dean Gialamas - Assistant Scutmaster (dean.gialamas@gmail.cm) This Life Scut has spent 20 years in scuts. His tw sns, Bradley and Stephen, are in the trp, bth are Life Scuts. I enjy helping the yung men learn scuting and life skills, and watching them develp int men f character. I enjy spending time with my sn ding scuting activities. Alan Tsuyuki - Events Crdinatr, Treasurer (nethene77@htmail.cm) Alan reached the level f Star Scut in Trp 361 and has been an active Cub Scut and By Scut parent t his sn, Bryce, a Life Scut in Trp 811. He served as the Events Crdinatr fr the last 2 years and was the Cmmittee Chair last year. ~I believe that what ur sns get ut f the scuting prgram is directly related t the parental invlvement. I have a saying, Scuts cme f age when the parents engage. Paul Hinz - Chartered Organizatin Rep (hinz@radrunner.cm) Paul has been invlved in scuts fr ver 6 years since his ldest sn Braden became a Tiger. This year, his yungest sn Cllin will jin Braden, a Star Scut, in Trp 811. During all f the cub scut years, Paul served as the advancement crdinatr in additin t helping ut n the many events. This year, Paul is beginning his rle as the chartered rganizatin representative, which is the liaisn between St. Angela Merici Parish and the Unit 811 scuting rganizatins. ~I m a scut leader because I believe in the principles f scuting and the psitive ways it shapes the character and skills f the bys. Hunter age 16- Life Scut and Current SPL, Grant age 13 1st class, and Trent age 12 Tenderft Rank. I was in the Den leadership rle fr the Tiger, Wlf and Bear years fr all 3 f ur sns. I chaired multiple events thrughut my years in Cub Pack 811. I am a Brnze Pelican recipient fr service t the Pack. ~I remember being apprached t help with scuts when Hunter became a Tiger. An hur a week was the cmmitment.. I have been blessed fr almst 10 years t spend time with 1st graders wh tday are wrking diligently t becme respnsible citizens f the wrld. 6 Trp 811 Yuth Leadership Senir Patrl Leader The Senir Patrl Leader is the yuth leader elected by the members f the trp and will serve fr 6 mnths. He is in charge f the trp meetings frm beginning t end and sees t it that the meeting is run in an rderly and timely manner. He is in charge f the utings and leads the PLC (with guidance by the Scutmaster). He als selects his tw Assistant Senir Patrl Leaders wh he assigns varius prjects. Assistant Senir Patrl Leader As the assistant, this yuth leader takes the place f the SPL when he is absent. He helps train the trp quartermaster, scribe, Order f the Arrw representative, histrian, librarian, and instructrs. Patrl Leader This leader is elected by the members f his patrl every 6 mnths. He helps with patrl activities and represents the patrl in the PLC meetings. He appints an assistant patrl leader t serve with him. Trp guide He is a leader and mentr t the members f the new Scut patrl. He is usually a First Class rank wh prvides directin, caching, and supprt as determined by the skill level and mrale f the patrl leader and members f the new Scut patrl. He is guided by the new patrl ASM s. Quartermaster He is in charge f the supplies and equipment. He keeps a current inventry and sees that the equipment is in gd cnditin. Scribe The Trp s secretary. He attends PLC meetings and keeps a lgbk f discussins. He als keeps track f trp attendance. Order f the Arrw representative Serves as a link between the trp and the Order f the Arrw ldge. He prmtes OA in the trp while encuraging year rund and resident camp in the trp. Histrian Cllects pictures fr the trp and presents slide shw during Curt f Hnr Webmaster Assists with keeping the website up t date. Chaplain Aide Assists Trp Chaplain in religius services fr the trp. Leads prayer during meetings and utings. Den Chief Meets with the Den Leaders t help their adult leader guide Scuts in their prgram. Junir Assistant Scutmaster A Scut wh is at least 16 years ld and and Eagle Scut wh has shwn utstanding leadership skills. These yung men fllw the guidance f the Scutmaster in prviding supprt and supervisin t ther bys in the trp. Page 6

7 Trp Meetings Trp Meetings Trp meetings are held every Tuesday frm 7:00-8:30 pm at the St. Angela Merici Parish Hall. Changes t lcatin will be send via , Facebk, r website. Attendance Scuts may be drpped frm the active rster if they d nt meet the attendance guidelines. A scut is cnsidered t be inactive if he missed mre than 50% f the trp meetings r attends less than fur utings in a twelve-mnth perid. Behavir By Scuting is a values-based prgram, and Scuts are expected t live t the standards f the Scut Oath and Scut Law. The Scutmaster has the discretin t deal with any behavir prblems, as utlined in the trp bylaws. Hazing and ther frms f harassment are strictly prhibited. Unifrm Class A unifrms are required at Tuesday Trp meetings, Curts f Hnr, and travel t and frm Trp utings. Class A unifrms included BSA shirt, pants/shrts, belt, scks, trp neckerchief and neckerchief slide. Scut cap is ptinal. Class B unifrms can be wrn during summertime Trp meetings frm June-August. This is identical t the Class A unifrm except a red Trp 811 shirt replaces the BSA shirt, neckerchief, and neckerchief slide. By-Run Trp Trp 811 is a by-run trp, and the yuth leaders serving n the Patrl Leader Cuncil, under the guidance f the Scutmaster, plan meetings and utings. What t Bring T Meetings Every Scut shuld bring their Scut handbk and a pen t every meeting. The Scutmaster and/r Assistant Scutmasters will be in attendance t review and sign ff any requirements earned at hme. Theme At the annual planning meeting, the PLC designates a theme fr each mnth. The patrl in charge fr that mnth is respnsible fr the theme related activities at the Trp meetings. Outings, bth majr and minr, will try t encmpass that theme. Sign up! The Clipbard The Clipbard is a physical and virtual sign-up sheet. Abut 2 mnths prir t every event, this sheet will be psted n The Clipbard n the tables at the meetings and n the website. It is the Scut s respnsibility t check the Clipbard and sign up n their wn. It is als their respnsibility t infrm their parents that they want t participate. Once signed up, their spt is reserved. This is a great place fr parents t sign up fr activities they wuld like t participate in with their sns. All f these events will require that scuts have an BSA Activity Cnsent Frm (ie. permissin slip) signed by their parents n later than the secnd Tuesday prir. All payments are als due at that time. If the Scut is unable t participate, he MUST infrm the Webmaster and the Activity Crdinatr t remve his name frm the list. If he des nt attend and did nt infrm the Webmaster and Activity Crdinatr, he will frfeit the mney he has already paid r will be asked t pay fr any fd that was purchased fr him. Page 7

8 Advancement Advancement Each scut is respnsible fr his wn advancement. The Scutmaster and Assistant Scutmasters sign ff requirements fr the Tenderft, Secnd Class, and First Class ranks. Scuts may wrk n requirements fr different ranks simultaneusly, as lng as prerequisites are met. Fr Star thrugh Eagle ranks, the Scutmaster, r delegate, signs ff all requirements except merit badges earned. Fr merit badges earned, the Advancement Chair signs ff this requirement. Trail t First Class Scuts are strngly encuraged t attend the skills meeting n the first Sunday f each mnth at Hug Hall. The Assistant Scut Masters and Trp Guides will be teaching skills that are utlined in the Scut Handbk fr Scut, Tenderft, Secnd Class, and First Class Ranks. Red Bk Each new Scut receives a Red Bk upn entering the trp. Scuts (nt their parents) shuld keep their Red Bks updated, including utings, service hurs, and leadership psitins. Scuts shuld als keep their merit badge blue cards and rank advancement placards in this bk. Scuts must bring their Red Bk t the Scutmaster Cnference and Bard f Review. Scutmaster s Cnference The scutmaster authrizes thse wh may test and pass the Scut n rank advancement. Fr all rank requirements, except fr the nes pertaining t demnstrating scut spirit, scutmaster cnference, and bards f review, the scut is tested and passed by the scutmaster, assistant scutmasters, r Junir Assistant Scutmasters. Once a Scut has cmpleted all f the requirements fr a rank advancement, he (nt his parents) shuld sign up fr the Scutmaster Cnference. At this cnference, the Scutmaster will test the Scut s knwledge f rank requirements, prvide cunseling, review requirements fr the next rank, and determine if the Scut is ready fr the Bard f Review. Bard f Review Assciatin with adults is a key cmpnent f Scuting, and the final requirement fr each rank is a Bard f Review. The Bard cnsists f 3-4 trp adults, but may nt include the Scutmaster, and it is scheduled upn cmpletin f the Scutmaster Cnference. The purpse f the Bard f Review is nt t retest a Scut, but rather t ensure that he has cmpleted all the requirements, t determine the quality f his trp experience, and t encurage him t advance tward the next rank. Scuts must wear their Class A unifrms. First Class rank and higher, the Scut must wear their merit badge sash. They must bring their Scut Handbk and Red Bk. Upn successful cmpletin f the bard f review, the scut brings his bk and advancement frm t the Advancement Crdinatr fr recrding Curt f Hnr The Trp hlds tw Curts f Hnr a year in May and September. Families are strngly encuraged t attend t frmally recgnized ur Scuts fr their achievements during the year. Page 8

9 Merit Badges Earning Merit Badges gives the Scut self-cnfidence that cmes frm vercming bstacles t achieve a gal. Thrugh the Merit Badge prgram, a Scut als learns career skills, develps scially, and may develp physical skills and hbbies that give him a lifetime f healthful recreatin. An imprtant aspect f the Merit Badge prgram is the scial skill a by will develp frm having t cntact an unknwn adult (Merit Badge Cunselr), set up an appintment, and meet with that persn. Blue Card Befre starting a merit badge, Scuts must get a blank blue card frm the Advancement Crdinatr. He then fills it ut and asks the Scutmaster t sign it. The Blue Card shws that the Scut has permissin t begin the merit badge. The Scut shuld bring the Blue Card (with all required infrmatin filled ut) t his first meeting with the merit badge cunselr. Upn cmpletin f the merit badge, the 3 part Blue Card will be signed and tw f the 3 segments will be returned t the Scut. The scut must present the cmpleted Blue Card t the Scutmaster fr anther signature. The he presents it t the Advancement Crdinatr in rder fr the merit badge t be recrded, purchased, and presented t the scut at the next Curt f Hnr. At the Curt f Hnr, ne segment and the badge will be given back t the Scut s he can put it in his Red Bk. Merit Badges There are ver ne hundred Merit Badges available t Scuts. Mst f these are designed t intrduce Scuts t a skill r hbby. Seventeen f these Merit Badges are designated as Eagle-required. A Scut must earn thirteen f these seventeen and a ttal f twenty-ne Merit Badges t earn the rank f Eagle. A list f them are n the Website. T earn a Merit Badge: The Scut develps an interest in the merit badge and may begin wrking n the requirements. The Scut discusses his interest in the merit badge with his Scutmaster. The Scutmaster signs a blue card and prvides the Scut with at least ne cunselr cntact. The Scut cntacts the cunselr. The cunselr cnsiders any wrk tward requirements cmpleted prir t the initial discussin with the Scutmaster. The Scut, his buddy and the cunselr meet (ften several times) The Scut finishes the requirements. The cunselr apprves cmpletin. The Scut returns the signed blue card t his Scutmaster wh signs the applicant recrd sectin f the blue card. The Scutmaster gives the signed blue card back t the Scut. The scut turns in the cmpleted blue card t the Trp Advancement Chair wh reprts the merit badge t the cuncil The Scut receives his merit badge. Varius trps thrughut the Orange Cunty Cuncil put n Merit Badge Days giving scuts a chance t earn bth types f merit badges. Althugh we generally have n prblem with the nn-eagle Required Merit Badge, Trp 811 recgnizes that many Eagle Required Merit Badges put n by these trps fall shrt f ur expectatins and blue cards will nt be apprved fr earning these Eagle MBs and MB Days. 10 Fundraisers Pancake Breakfast and Spaghetti Dinner These are ur biggest fundraisers fr the year. The mney we raise ges int supprting the prgram the bys want t run and t raise mney fr the Scuts t g t camp. All Scuts are expected t participate unless excused by the Scutmaster. Pancake Breakfast ccurs in March and the Spaghetti Dinner in Octber. Bth events will take place at St. Angela Merici Parish Hall. Scuts have three main respnsibilities. The first is t sell Tickets. 4-6 weeks befre the event, Scuts will receive an envelpe with 5 tickets inside. If they need mre, the Scut will ask the Fundraiser Cmmittee fr them. Each scut MUST sell a minimum f $60 wrth f tickets therwise they will be asked t pay $60 t the Trp directly. Once a scut sells his minimum, he will receive 50% f every sale he makes (i.e. $60 in sales = $30 in scut accunt). This will g int his scut accunt. The secnd is t assist in the set up and take dwn f the hall befre and after the event. This includes table and chair placement, decratins, and clean up. The third, is t help serve all f ur guests. This includes busing tables, serving guests their fd, supplying drinks and dessert. Scuts will be mnitred clsely by the Scutmaster, Assistant Scutmaster, and Senir Patrl Leader t assure that n single scut carries all the wrklad. This is a shared effrt amng all scuts and as such, each must share the respnsibility. The SPL will make the final assignments. At n time, during these tw events will electrnic devices and cell phnes be used. Scuts fund using these devices will be asked ONCE t put it away. If the Scut is caught using it again, it will be cnfiscated. All parents are strngly encuraged t vlunteer. Adult rles will be psted fr yu t sign up. Scut-O-Rama Trp 811 als participates in the Annual Scut-O-Rama sales. We require that each scut sell a minimum f 5 bks. Vlunteering The success f Trp 811 is in large part a result f parents wh see the value in the By Scut prgram. This is a vlunteer prgram but as ne leader says Scuts win when parents pitch in. Please cnsider ging t at least tw utings a year. This will ensure that ur Scuts will have adult supervisin at every event. By simply being registered, yu are part f Trp 811 Parent Cmmittee. We meet the secnd Tuesday f every mnth and discuss budget, plicy, and unit events. Yu may als be called in t sit n the Bard Review fr Scut Rank Advancement. Yu are als welcme t g n all the utings with yur sn as lng as yu have cmpleted the necessary training. This is imprtant because withut enugh adults, we will nt have enugh drivers driving the scuts t the varius events. Further, we ask that yu participate in the tw Fundraisers and the Curts f Hnr.
