1 May - 06 NATIONAL NIRF 2018 The Natinal Institutinal Ranking Framewrk (NIRF) is a methdlgy adpted by the Ministry f Human Resurce Develpment (MHRD), Gvernment f India, t rank institutins f higher educatin in India..

This year it is the third editin f NIRF survey and was released as part f India Rankings 2018 fr the Educatinal Institutins., In it, a ttal f 2809 institutins have participated in 9 categries. Cllectively they have submitted 3954 distinct prfiles, sme in multiple disciplines and categries. This included 301 Universities, 906 Engineering Institutins, 487 Management Institutins, 286 Pharmacy Institutins, 101 Medical Institutins, 71 Law Institutins, 59 Architecture Institutins and 1087 General Degree Clleges. Adpt a Heritage Prject Ministry f Turism in clse cllabratin with Ministry f Culture and Archaelgical Survey f India (ASI) had launched Adpt a Heritage Prject. Under it, selected public sectr cmpanies, private sectr cmpanies, and individuals will develp turist amenities at heritage sites. They will be called as Mnument Mitra and adpt the sites essentially under their Crprate Scial Respnsibility (CSR) activity.

3 8 th Theatre Olympics The eight editins f Theatre Olympics cncluded in Mumbai, Maharashtra after a glrius run f 51 days acrss 17 cities f India and shwcasing rich heritage and culture acrss length and breadth f the cuntry. It was inaugurated by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in February 2018 at the majestic Red Frt in New Delhi. The 8th Theatre Olympics was rganized by Natinal Schl f Drama (NSD) under Ministry f Culture. The theme f the festival was Flag f Friendship Natinal Digital Cmmunicatins Plicy 2018 Draft versin The gvernment released the draft f new telecm plicy - Natinal Digital Cmmunicatins Plicy with an aim t prvide access f bradband with 50 megabits per secnd t every citizen, attract $100 billin investment in the sectr and create 40 lakh jbs by The plicy Calls fr Universal bradband cverage, creating fur millin additinal jbs in the digital cmmunicatins sectr, enhancing the cntributin f digital cmmunicatins sectr t 8% f India s GDP frm arund 6% in 2017, enhancing India s cntributin t glbal value chains and ensuring digital svereignty. It als aims t prpel India s rank in ICT develpment index (published by ITU) t tp 50, frm 134 in The plicy further aims t pursue regulatry refrms t ensure that the regulatry structures and prcesses remain relevant, transparent, accuntable and frwardlking. Additinally, the plicy aims t remve regulatry barriers and reduce the regulatry burden that hampers investments, innvatin and cnsumer interest The draft als prpses t address wes f debt-ridden telecm sectr by reviewing license fees, spectrum usage charges, the universal service bligatin fund levy fr enhancing ease f ding business. The draft plicy prpsed t ratinalize taxes and levies n digital cmmunicatins equipment, infrastructure, and services.

4 These bjectives will be achieved by India-Sa Tme and Principe INTERNATIONAL The Unin Cabinet has apprved Memrandum f Understanding (MU) between India and Sa Tme and Principe fr Cperatin in the field f Traditinal Systems f Medicine and Hmepathy. The MU will enhance bilateral cperatin between tw cuntries in areas f Traditinal Systems f Medicine. The Ministry f AYUSH is having the mandate t prmte, prpagate and glbalize the Traditinal Systems f Medicine including Ayurveda, Yga and Naturpathy, Unani, Siddha, Swa-Rigpa, and Hmepathy Already the Ministry f Ayush has taken numerus effective steps by entering int MU with Malaysia, Trinidad & Tbag, Hungry, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mauritius, Mnglia, Iran fr cperatin in traditinal medicine. Kreas Summit The Nrth's Kim Jng-un and Mn Jae-in f Suth Krea agreed t wrk t rid the peninsula f nuclear weapns. Inter-Krean summits are meetings between the leaders f Nrth Krea and Suth Krea. There have been three such meetings s far (in 2000, 2007, and 2018). The 2018 inter-krean summit was held n 27 April 2018 in Suth Krea's prtin f the Jint Security Area, it was the third summit between Suth and Nrth Krea It saw Mr.Kim becme the first Nrth Krean leader t set ft in Suth Krea since the end f the Krean War in It is nly the third time leaders f the tw Kreas have met since an armistice agreement ended the Krean War in 1953, and the first time a summit has taken place in the Suth. The tw leaders said they wuld pursue talks with the US and China t frmally end the Krean War, which ended in 1953 with a truce, nt ttal peace.

5 The tw are hlding talks in the demilitarised zne as part f the first inter-krea summit in mre than a decade. The meeting centered n the denuclearisatin f the Krean Peninsula that is "a nuclear-free Krean peninsula" and a permanent peace deal between the tw cuntries. Mn Jae-in and Kim Jng-un signed a three-part declaratin in the Peace Huse, pledging t sign a peace treaty t frmally end the war between Nrth and Suth Krea this year. The declaratin states that the Kreas will wrk twards reunificatin and establish a cmmunicatins pst in Kaesng, Nrth Krea. The cuntries will als rganize a family reunin t be held n August 15. Suth Asia Ecnmic Fcus reprt The Wrld Bank in its twice-a-year Suth Asia Ecnmic Fcus reprt has prjected grwth rate f 7.3% fr India in 2018 and 7.5% fr 2019 and The Suth Asia Ecnmic Fcus is a biannual ecnmic update presenting recent ecnmic develpments and a near-term ecnmic utlk fr Suth Asia cvering Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The 2018 reprt was titled as Suth Asia Ecnmic Fcus, Spring 2018: Jbless Grwth? Generalized System f Preferences The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has frmally annunced that it is reviewing the eligibility f India, Indnesia, and Kazakhstan in Generalized System f Preferences (GSP) based n cncerns abut cuntries cmpliance with the prgram. The US has decided t review India s eligibility t enjy duty-free access fr certain prducts in the American market under a tax benefit scheme. GSP is a trade preference prgramme intrduced in 1976 that the US gvernment ffers t exprters frm ther cuntries t prmte ecnmic develpment by allwing duty-free entry f gds. Under the GSP, Indian exprts t the US enjy lwer imprt tariffs cmpared t thse impsed n nn-gsp exprters.

Bth Japan and India, as the third and the seventh largest ecnmies respectively, jintly recgnized T access t reliable, clean and ecnmical energy is critical fr their ecnmic grwth. T implement Natinally Determined Cntributins (NDCs) under the aegis f the United Natins Framewrk Cnventin n Climate Change (UNFCCC) The imprtance f develpment and deplyment f next-generatin technlgies including hydrgen t realize de-carbnizatin T initiate the discussin twards the develpment f Electric Vehicles (EVs) by cllabrating with "Plicy dialgue n next generatin/zer emissin vehicles". T reiterate the cntinued imprtance f cal-based electricity generatin in the energy mix in bth the cuntries T prmte the cperatin n envirnmental measures fr cal-fired pwer plants T prmte transparent and diversified Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) market thrugh the relaxatin f destinatin clause. Intra State E-Way bill system ECONOMICS e-way Bill system fr Intra-State mvement f gds wuld be implemented frm 15th April 2018 in the fllwing States Andhra Pradesh Gujarat Kerala Telangana Uttar Pradesh
