BWF COUNCIL, EXECUTIVE BOARD AND STAFF CODE OF ETHICS Intrductin BWF, as a member f the Olympic family and as with any mdern Internatinal Sprts Federatin, r indeed any ther rganisatin, needs t define the standards f cnduct expected f its staff,cuncil, players and fficials. Staff cnduct is dealt with in the Staff Handbk (part f the staff jb cntract), which als cntains assciated disciplinary prcedures that wuld apply in cases f alleged miscnduct. This dcument details the expected standards f cnduct fr BWF Cuncil, players and fficials, and the assciated disciplinary and appeal prcesses t be used in case f alleged miscnduct. Cnduct that is nt permitted 1. Persnal gain Taking, influencing, r trying t influence an BWF decisin that results in the Cuncil member r a clse family member benefiting (in mney r kind) frm the decisin, unless that benefit is declared and agreed in advance as nt disqualifying the Cuncil member frm taking, influencing, r trying t influence that BWF decisin, r unless it is clear that the benefit culd nt reasnably have been anticipated r avided. Example: Cuncil member s wife receiving a sum f mney r anther benefit in kind frm a bidding Assciatin in return fr (r arund the time f) vting fr their bid t hst a majr BWF event. 2. Failing t declare an interest Failing t register a persnal r clse family member s interest in areas that relate t the BWF s activities. Example: Cuncil member nt registering that he acts as an agent fr a ptential BWF spnsr. 3. Unacceptable persnal miscnduct Being cnvicted f an ffence likely t bring the game f Badmintn int disrepute, r t undermine persnal reputatin t the extent that BWF s reputatin culd be affected if the Cuncil member cntinues in ffice; being cnvicted f a serius criminal ffence; physical, r serius written r ral abuse f ther BWF Cuncil members r BWF staff members; fr repeated absence frm Cuncil sessins withut cmmunicating a cause r excuse fr absence t the President r Chief Operating Officer. Example: Cuncil member being cnvicted f fraud, r f an attempt t fix the utcme f a match in anther sprt Page 1 f 11

Fraudulent expense claims Claiming fr expenditure nt incurred; claiming fr expenditure nt incurred n behalf f BWF; claiming frm BWF fr expenditure als claimed frm anther funding agency; clluding with a third party t supply false dcuments; and similar actins. Example: paying a travel agent $1,000 fr a flight, submitting an invice fr $1,500 and sharing the extra $500 received with the travel agent; OR claiming fr full travel csts frm bth the Cuncil member s wn NOC and BWF fr the same air ticket. 5. Failing t c-perate with disciplinary prcess Refusing t c-perate with a disciplinary prcess; Failing t highlight suspected miscnduct.. Example: nt replying t cmmunicatins seeking infrmatin abut an alleged ffence; OR nt reprting knwledge f cash being paid t a Cuncil member frm a bidding Assciatin. Page 1 f 11

3 PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT 1. PURPOSES 1.1. The purpses f this Cde are: 1.2. t ensure and maintain an rderly and fair administratin and cnduct fr BWF-sanctined events, and t prtect the players rights and the respective rights f the BWF, spnsrs, and the public; 1.3. t uphld the gd name f the BWF and the integrity f the sprt f Badmintn wrld-wide. 2. APPLICABILITY 2.1. This Cde is applicable t all BWF-sanctined events and the players participating in them All players, at all times, shall be subject t the Cde and the Laws f Badmintn. Each player wh is entered r nminated t participate in a BWF-sanctined event shall accept this Cde, the Cmpetitin Regulatins and the Laws f Badmintn and then, in effect, is bund by them Any player wh cmmits any ffence defined in Regulatins 3 t 5 shall be deemed t have breached this Cde. Breaches f the Cde cnstitute the basis fr disciplinary actin against the player. 3. PLAYER COMMITMENT AND ENTRY OFFENCES 3.1. Late withdrawal Withdrawing frm either the qualifying r main draw after publicatin f the draw withut evidence r prf f bna fide injury, illness, bereavement r ther emergency situatin Playing anther event Having entered and been accepted int either the qualifying r the main draw f an BWFsanctined event and playing in anther badmintn event during the perid f that event Playing after declaring nn-availability due t injury Withdrawing frm a future event due t injury r illness and playing in any Badmintn event during the perid between the date f ntificatin f injury/illness and the said event frm which the player has withdrawn Early departure frm turnament Making travel arrangements which wuld preclude the player frm participatin in scheduled matches r interfere with their cmmitment t attend dpe-tests. 4 4. PLAYER ON-SITE OFFENCES 4.1. Inapprpriate cnduct During any match r at any time while within the precincts f the site f a BWF-sanctined event, nt cnducting neself in an hnurable and sprtsmanlike manner Dress vilatins Failing t dress and present neself fr play in a suitable smart manner. Clean and acceptable Badmintn sprts clthing shall be wrn Failing t cmply with the cnditins f entry f each turnament with regard t clthing and advertising regulatins Failure t cmplete a match Failing t cmplete a match in prgress unless reasnably unable t d s Late arrival fr match/n match Arriving late fr a match, resulting in disqualificatin Withdrawing frm any event in a turnament whilst still fit enugh t cmpete n the same day in anther event in that said turnament, i.e. players may nt default withut gd reasn frm ne event t cncentrate their effrts in anther during the same turnament Failure t use best effrts Nt using ne s best effrts t win a match Trying t influence line judges Trying t influence the decisin f line judges by arm, hand, r racket gestures, r rally Seeking caching Seeking caching during play except as permitted under the Laws. Cmmunicatin f any kind, audible r visible, between a player and a cach may be cnstrued as caching Failure t attend media cnference Unless injured and physically unable t appear, failing t attend any pst-match media cnference rganised after cnclusin f each match whether the player was the winner r lser, prviding that this des nt interfere with the preparatin fr the player s next match Vilating ceremny prtcl When participating in the finals f a turnament, nt participating in the final ceremnies directly after the match r nt wearing the style f clthing (e.g. tracksuit, unifrm) requested by the rganisers. Even the unauthrised tuching f such persns may be regarded as physical abuse Unsprtsmanlike cnduct Cnducting neself in a manner that is clearly abusive r detrimental t the sprt. 5. PLAYER MAJOR OFFENCES 5.1. Cnduct cntrary t the integrity f the game Engaging in cnduct cntrary t the integrity f the game f Badmintn. If a player is cnvicted f serius vilatin f a criminal law f any cuntry, the punishment fr which includes pssible imprisnment, that player may be deemed by virtue f such cnvictin t have engaged in cnduct cntrary t the integrity f the game f Badmintn. In additin, if a player has at any time behaved in a manner severely damaging t the reputatin f the sprt, that player may be deemed by virtue f such behaviur t have engaged in cnduct cntrary t the integrity f the game f badmintn. Wagers Wagering anything f value in cnnectin with an event in which ne will be, r is, cmpeting Bribes r ther payments Offering, giving, sliciting, r accepting, r agreeing t ffer, give, slicit, r accept, anything f value t r frm any persn with the intent t influence any player s effrts r the result f a match in any BWF-sanctined event.
