2 Wh is GBC? GBC is a nn-prfit rganizatin and member f the Central Jersey Pp Warner Cnference. Since 1966, the East Brunswick Glden Bears have prvided a quality Pp Warner prgram t children ages In 1998, the EB Glden Bears merged with the Sptswd Chargers. The new Glden Bear Chargers cntinue t serve children in East Brunswick, Sptswd, Helmetta and Milltwn by prviding a successful prgram that strives t instill team spirit, psitive self-esteem, sprtsmanship and fair play. GBC s clrs are navy blue and gld. Levels f Play: There are 5-6 squads each fr cheer leading and ftball. They are (in rder frm yungest t ldest): Flag, Tiny-Mite, Mitey Mite, Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee and Jr. Midget. The level at which yur child participates is accrding t league guidelines and determined primarily by age. Weight and prir participatin in the sprt are als factrs. Beginning in the 2013 seasn, GBC has adpted the USA Ftball Heads Up mdel fr teaching ur players. All GBC ftball and cheer caches are Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. certified. USA Ftball Heads Up cncussin certificatin is als required. All caches must have these certificatins befre stepping n the field and are required t re-certify annually. GBC has als designated a Player Safety cach wh versees the prper equipment fit fr each player, is present at all games and practices t evaluate any player suspected f having an injury. The Player Safety cach is als respnsible fr hlding instructinal caching clinics Cme n ut and jin the GBC family this year! GBC Ftball Players will be required t cmplete 10-hurs f cnditining and 10-hurs f practice in equipment prir t being allwed t participate in any game day cmpetitin. Each player will be given a game day unifrm; navy blue fr hme games and white fr rad games (Tiny Mites nly wear blue unifrms and Flag participants will be given t-shirts). In additin, each player will be given a practice unifrm, helmet, shulder pads, rib guards, girdle, hip pads, thigh pads, knee pads, rear pad, belt, chin strap and muth piece. Players are respnsible t purchase their wn cleats and prtective cup. Unifrms are prvided by the rganizatin and must be returned at the end f the seasn. $100 unifrm fee required CHEER ACCESSORIES: During the first few days f practice the girls will be sized fr the fllwing: Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite Teams (Nn-cmpeting Teams) Fr all practices, games and exhibitin yu can purchase any ALL-WHITE cheer sneaker with laces. Payless usually has a gd selectin r yu can pt t purchase the Team Cheer sneakers that the cmpeting teams wear (price t be determined). Cheer nvelty items such as tank tps and shrts will be fr sale thrugh nvelty shrtly after the start f the seasn. ATTENDANCE: During the mnths f September and Octber, attendance is mandatry. Cheer is different frm ther sprts because we need every single teammate in rder t fully practice ur rutines. When ne cheerleader is missing the entire team suffers. SCHEDULE PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER During the mnth f August all teams will practice either at Warnsdrfer Schl Field lcated at 9 Hardenburg Lane, (ff f Dunhams Crner Rad in East Brunswick) r at Heavenly Farms Field lcated at 440 Dunhams Crner Rad. A detailed schedule will be prvided during the first week f practice. Saturday August 1 st all Cheer Teams Warnsdrfer Elementary Schl Field, East Brunswick, 10 am 12 nn August 3rd August 27 th all Cheer Teams Mndays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 6:00 8:00 pm at Warnsdrfer Schl Tuesdays 6:00 pm 8:00 pm at Heavenly Farms (with the exceptin f 8/4, which is a day ff due t Sptswd s Natinal Night Out) September and Octber: We are waiting lcatin assignments frm the Bard f Educatin. We will prvide yu with a schedule when we have the infrmatin n the schls that we are assigned t. Junir Midgets: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 6:00 pm 8:00 pm Jr Pee Wees: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 6:00 pm 8:00 pm Mitey Mites: Mnday and Wednesday 6:00 pm 8:00 pm Tiny Mites: Mnday and Wednesday 6:00 pm 7:30 pm Chregraphy: Cmpeting teams will be required t attend tw chregraphy sessins. There will be tw sessins lasting 4 hurs. Date, time and lcatin t be determined. Starting September 4 th thrugh the end f ur seasn, Jr. Pee Wee and Jr. Midget teams will be practicing their rutine every Friday frm 6:00 8:00 pm at Time t Tumble, lcated at 165 Amby Rd, Suite 706 in Marlbr. Cst is $5 per cheerleader each week. Exhibitin/Cmpetitins: Please nte that Jr. Pee Wee and Jr. Midget teams are the nly teams cnsidered Cmpeting Teams Price f ticket per spectatr $25 - $30. Separate tickets required fr each exhibitin/cmpetitin. 4

5 Week f Octber 5 th - Cheer Octber 10 th - The Central Jersey Cmpetitin/Exhibitin day fr all cheer teams at the Sun Natinal Bank Arena in Trentn. The girls will be taken t the arena n a schl bus. Parents will need t prvide transprtatin hme fr the girls. Teams usually g ut fr dinner after the cmpetitin, s that s smething t keep in mind. Nvember 1 st - Jr. Pee Wee and Jr. Midget teams will cmpete in the Pp Warner NJ State Champinships at Sun Natinal Bank Arena in Trentn. Nvember 7 th, 8 th, 14 th and 15 th are the dates fr the Eastern Reginal Cmpetitin. If the Cmpeting teams place 1 st r 2 nd at the Central Jersey Cmpetitin, they will mve n t the Reginal Cmpetitin at the Sun Natinal Bank Arena. If either team places 1 st r 2 nd at Reginals, they will mve n t Natinals in Flrida. We d nt have a date fr the Natinal Cmpetitin yet but it is usually the first r secnd week in December. Fundraising: Fundraising is a part f yur wrk bnd respnsibility. Wrk bnd sign-up will be n-line this year as sn as the ftball game schedule is released. In additin t wrk bnd, all cheerleaders are required t d tw canning/cin tss dates. Yu will be infrmed f canning dates later n in the seasn. The Cmpeting teams will be required t d additinal fundraising if they make it t Natinals. Caching: Last but nt least, we are always lking fr caches! Little r n experience required. 6 Registratin Requirements As part f ur registratin prcess, it is imprtant t understand that this paperwrk is required in rder fr us t cmplete the required bk certificatin required by Natinal Pp Warner. We are Nn Prfit rganizatin that is funded primarily thrugh registratin and fundraising annually by its participants. Please nte that ALL frms and fees need t be remitted BEFORE yur child will be allwed t participate in any practice sessins r games. 7 Wrkbnd and Fundraising Requirements There are numerus expenses and activities in Pp Warner that require additinal fundraising and yur participatin. A separate wrk bnd check is required at the start f the seasn. Wrk bnd includes participatin in but nt limited t raffles and assistance with 3 game assignments. Hme games require help with field setup/cleanup, selling 50/50, cncessin stand, nvelty table, sptter, chain crew, etc. Wrk bnd mnies will be refunded at the end f the seasn nly fr thse families that have cmpleted all f the participatin requirements, which includes ALL 3 assignments and a mandatry fundraiser. GBC Families are required t participate in n less than 3 wrk bnd activities, but are mre than welcme t d mre! This seasn, we will be assigning wrk bnd shifts fr each hme game by level f play. A schedule will be annunced nce GBC declares which levels will be active in Yur vlunteer wrk is greatly appreciated, and shws children hw imprtant it is t give back t the cmmunity. Equipment and Unifrms All Ftball Equipment will be distributed prir t the seasn begins, as lng as all paperwrk and fees have been submitted. Cheerleading unifrms will be distributed the 1st week f practice. Additinal required equipment and apparel is nted in the Ftball and Cheerleading sectin f this handbk. Return f all Equipment/Unifrms: Equipment and unifrm return will be held at the end f the seasn, date and time TBD. The times will be annunced via , and will be psted n ur Facebk page and the GBC website. Unifrm/Wrkbnd depsits will be returned at this time prviding that all f the fllwing requirements have been met: Wrkbnd cmpleted Equipment and unifrms returned in the same cnditin they were received League fundraising participatin 7

8 Attendance Guidelines, Practice and Game Schedule The regular Ftball and Cheer seasn typically runs August 1st thrugh Nvember. The seasn may extend thrugh December fr cmpetitive teams. During the Regular Seasn participants shuld make every effrt t attend all practices, but must attend a minimum f 2 practices in a given week t be eligible t play r cheer that weekend. Any participant with less than the required practices thrughut the seasn may nt be allwed t play in playff games r cmpete in cheer cmpetitins. In rder fr practices t start n time, every effrt shuld be made t arrive at the practice field ten-minutes prir t the scheduled start time. Please have the participants prepared with water bttles, bug spray, etc. If a participant cannt attend practice, yu must cntact yur Team Mm r Head Cach Weather GBC practices rain r shine. If the weather frecast calls fr thunder and lightning, practice may be cancelled. Annuncements will be made n the website, Facebk page and Team Mm s and Caches will als ntify teams. There may be times when practice will be stpped early due t thunder r lightning. Fr everyne s safety, we ask that parents stay at practice if the weather is smewhat threatening in the event that practice is cancelled. If a participant is t g hme with smene ther than a parent, yu MUST advise yur Team Mm r Head Cach. Practice Schedule: Practices will begin n August 1 st and each level may vary. Prir t the start f the seasn, practice will typically be held Mnday thrugh Friday, frm 6pm-8pm. Sme teams may als hld an ccasinal Saturday practice. Once the seasn begins, n team may practice mre than six hurs per week, s typically, each team will hld practice three days per week. Practices will be held at Warnsdrfer Field r Heavenly Farms in East Brunswick. Cheer practices may vary based n mat/gym time needs. The Team Mm and/r Caches will advise all cheerleaders and parents f the required changes. Due t the lss f daylight as the seasn prgresses, the start time f practices MAY be adjusted. All changes will annunced in advance f any change. Game Schedule: The regular seasn schedule will be psted t ur web site (alng with a full calendar) as sn as the infrmatin has been cnfirmed. There may be sme pre-seasn scrimmages fr (tackle) ftball squads that will be annunced by the caching staff. 8

9 Additinal Game Day Requirements Vlunteers are always needed!! All f the wrk yu see ging n during the seasn is being cmpleted by yur friends and neighbrs wh have vlunteered their time t make the Pp Warner experience an enjyable and rewarding ne fr all f ur children. Please cnsider vlunteering yur time, whether t help with an extra field assignment, game day setup/r cleanup r in whatever capacity yu are able t. Game Day Snacks and Juice Bxes: After every hme game, we as the hme team ffer all participants (including visiting teams) a drink and a snack. In turn at every away game we will get the same curtesy frm the hme team. Fundraising Events Fundraisers are vital t the financial stability f ur rganizatin. All families are encuraged t participate in the fundraising events. 10 Little Schlars Prgram Pp Warner Little Schlars, Inc. (PWLS) is the nly natinal yuth sprts rganizatin in America that requires its participants t perfrm adequately in the classrm befre permitting them t play. We believe that the standards we have set give these children a sense f respnsibility and an appreciatin fr academics and athletics that will help them develp later n in life. Like such rganizatins as the Natinal Cllegiate Athletic Assciatin (NCAA)and Natinal Federatin f High Schls (NFHS), PWLS has academic guidelines and criteria that need t be met in rder fr a child t participate. Prf f satisfactry prgress in schl is required. A 2.0/70% r the equivalent shall be the minimum grade pint average acceptable t participate. In cases f dubt, cnflict f pinin, r if a valid reprt card is nt submitted, the natinally published schlastic eligibility frm shall be used and deemed final. End f Seasn Banquet Our annually awards banquet is typically held in January r February. Details will be finalized and cmmunicated twards the end f the seasn. Bard Meetings: All are welcme t attend the GBC Bard Meetings and we encurage ur parents and cmmunity t get invlved with ur prgram. Meetings are typically held n a mnthly basis. Sme meetings will be clsed t the public, but mst will be pen s parents can cme and share their thughts. The Bard f Assciates shall cnsist f 8-12 elected bard members. They are t be vted in by the general bard at a date selected by the Bard f Directrs. Assciate and Executive members f the bard may als vte fr candidates fr the Bard f Assciates. B. A member shall nt hld mre than ne elected ffice at a time, withut apprval f the Bard f Assciates. C. All Bard Members are t be in gd standing with GBC. D. Term f ffice fr all elected fficers shall be ne year, t cincide with the fiscal year f the rganizatin. E. Everyne participates under mandatry rules f play. On-field caching is allwed fr yunger age levels. Individual awards are given nly fr academic excellence, nt fr n-field activities. Safe Playing Envirnment Players are matched by age and weight levels. There are strict mandatry equipment requirements. Pp Warner prvides Caching Clinics and Risk Management Training. An enfrced natinal rule bk incrprates time-tested rules. A full-time executive staff supprts all lcal assciatins and assists in sund plicy creatin. 12
