2 Years f Swimming Experience After everyne intrduced themselves Jane Grsser asked everyne t stand up. She then asked everyne if they think the cmmittee has 200 r mre cmbined years f experience in swimming stand up. 300 r mre cntinue standing. The cmmittee has 429* years f cmbined swimming experience (cunting nly the cmmittee members that were present). Jane Grssers stated that the cmmittee has t d the fllwing fr the cmmittee t be a success that each member wants it t be. Bring ideas t the cmmittee and understand that the cmmittee have 429 years f swimming experience. Members need t take that int accunt when ideas are being reviewed. Ice Breaker Persnality/Shapes exercise After the experience exercise Jane Grsser shwed the slide belw and then asked the cmmittee members t g t different areas f the rm. 3 Jane Grsser s majr takeaways frm the exercise Differences. Each cmmittee member s persnality is different. Fr the cmmittee t succeed differences in persnalities must be taken int accunt. Assigning Rles. Task Frces shuld nt be made up f the same persnalities. The difference in persnalities shuld be lked at as a strength because differences will bring different pinins and viewpints that will make each task frce strnger. 4 Pillars f USA Swimming D&I Fcus. Cmmittee members (alng with tw USA Swimming staff members) were split int tw grups, Apples and Oranges. The Apples were the instructrs and the Oranges were the builders. Standing back t back the Apples instructed the Oranges n hw t put tgether the Legs they had in their hand. 4 they had built but culd nt shw the Apples. At the cnclusin f the exercise Jane Grsser had everyne turn arund and lk at the shapes. Jane pinted ut the fllwing. Taking the time t carefully explain an idea, bject, etc. is imprtant. Listening t what a cmmittee member is saying withut bias is just as imprtant. Strng cmmunicatin between cmmittee members is vital t the grwth f the cmmittee. Diversity & Inclusin Cmmittee Missin Statement. Jane Grsser shwed USA Swimming s missin statement and the USA Swimming Diversity & Inclusin Cmmittee Missin statement. (See slide belw.) Jane Grsser pinted ut t the cmmittee that they needed t cme up with a missin statement that supprts what USA Swimming is ding. She shwed the missin statements frm tw USA Swimming cmmittees Registratin and Membership Cmmittee, Safe Sprt Cmmittee and the LSC Develpment Cmmittee After rewrites the cmmittee came up with the fllwing missin statement. 5 USA Swimming Gals D&I Team Gals & Membership Trends. During dinner Mariej Truex talked abut the USA Swimming D&I Cmmittee Gals (slide belw) and USA Swimming membership trends. She explained t the cmmittee that the drp in the N Respnse and the rise in the White and Nn-White Respnses culd be attributed in members having t respnd t the ethnicity questin when registering. In the past members culd skip the ethnicity questin. Nw members cannt skip the questin. If they prefer nt t answer the questin they have t click n the n respnse answer. 8 USA Swimming Diversity & Inclusin Cmmittee Gals Mariej Truex brught up the rganizatinal chart slide and stated that USA Swimming really needs help with the fllwing New Membership: Ideas beynd Cmmunity Swim Team Educatin: Incrprating D&I int LSC Prgramming Educatin: Funding f LSC D&I Prgramming Educatin: LSC D&I Chair/Crdinatr Activatin She stated that the Cmmunity Swim Teams is the nly avenue fr USA Swimming t create new clubs. If that was taken away then there wuld nt be an avenue fr USA Swimming t create new clubs. (While Mariej Truex was talking Jane Grsser put fur sheets f paper n the wall with the fur categries.) Jane Grsser instructed the cmmittee t g arund the rm and place ideas that will impact each categry n the paper. Mariej Truex stated that the ideas that members submitted t the cmmittee prir t the meeting can be put in a categry as lng as they fit the categry. Audrey Bell stated that the dcuments were put tgether by the task frce t send t LSC s and clubs t encurage them t use a different criteria fr utreach rather than relying slely n families qualifying fr the Free r Reduced Cst Lunch prgram. The cmmittee then went thrugh the dcuments. Mariej Truex suggested that the task frce needs t explain t LSC s and clubs why they need t mve away frm the Free r Reduced Cst Lunch Prgram. She als suggested that there shuld be 1 r 2 suggested qualificatins that clubs can explre. This will make it easier fr them t expand the qualificatins fr utreach. Mike Switalski tld the cmmittee that Medicaid and participatin in the fd stamps prgram are the easiest ways fr families t prve that they are in need. Alicia McCnnell suggested a persn frm the Wmen in Sprts Fundatin. v. Thmas Luchsinger suggested Jennifer Hbbs frm the Pathfinders fr Autism. Jennifer Hbbs has raised ver 1.5 millin dllars fr Pathfinders fr Autism. vi. Kathy Mendez asked the cmmittee t her and Manuel Banks candidates. March Cnference Call Minutes i.
