AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: 1) Meet the 2.0+ GPA requirement*dancer must have a 2.0+ GPA t auditin 2) Auditin applicatin is cmplete and turned in by the May 15 th clinic 3) Learn the required jazz and hip hp auditin cmbinatins at the clinics n May 15 th & 16 th. 4) Attend the May 17 th clinic rehearsal day 5) T be cnsidered fr a psitin n the dance team, the candidate must perfrm bth clinic auditin chregraphy pieces in frnt f the judges at the May 18 th auditin. Dance team is a rigrus, athletic, and physically demanding perfrmance grup. Be prepared fr this type f dancing at the auditin. Make sure yu are healthy enugh t participate. Mdificatins will nt be given. This is an auditin; yu need t be able t demnstrate what will be expected f any dance team member during the dance year.

3 Dear Dance Team Applicant & Parents: Thank yu fr yur interest in the Murrieta Mesa dance team prgram. Mesa dance team is a perfrmance/entertainment grup that perfrms at rallies, assemblies, and sprting events. This is ur primary purpse. The team will be chsen thrugh an auditin prcess and will practice fr the dance year (August-April). The size f the team will be determined by the auditin prcess and will be cmprised f highly skilled, well runded dancers, with advanced/elite dance skills. All ptential team members must already be fficially enrlled in Murrieta Mesa High Schl by May 15th, The auditin in May will be the nly auditin fr the dance team. Private auditins will nt be held. All applicants will be evaluated by the same panel f judges t ensure a fair auditin prcess. Things t cnsider befre yu prceed with the auditin: Yu must be fficially enrlled in MMHS by the first clinic day; May 15 th. Will be verified with MMHS guidance tech. Dance team is a yearlng cmmitment. The cach will expect yu at every rehearsal and perfrmance. Dance team will nt have part time members. Participating n a cmpetitive dance team is challenging due t cnflicting time cmmitments, but dable. Yu cannt be in tw places at the same time; physically impssible. Gd time management skills are a critical cmpnent t being a successful dance team member. By auditining and being selected fr the team, yu are chsing the MESA dance team as yur pririty ver anther team, grup, jb, utside cmmitment, etc. All members f the team will be placed int the advanced dance class at Mesa as part f their 7 perid schl schedule fr the schl year (fills VPA, 2 nd year f PE, r elective curse credit requirement). Any freshman wh makes the dance team will still be required t take the state mandated Fitness gram fitness assessments. Team practices afterschl Mndays & Thursdays frm 3:10 5:30 beginning in August when schl begins alng with extra August rehearsal days prir t the start f schl. Certain practices thrughut the dance year will be extended until 6:30 when guest chregraphers are hired t wrk with the team, r extra practice time is needed. Games and perfrmances will be n any night f the week and all dancers will be expected t be in attendance perfrming with the team. Schl behavir and attendance recrds will be part f the applicatin/auditin prcess. Pints will be deducted frm applicants scre per guidelines n applicatin page. Team seeks members with exemplary behavir and attendance recrds. Included in this packet is a dance team applicatin, an verview f the dance team 2.0+ GPA perfrmance plicy, vluntary participant waiver, medical authrizatin frm, cnsent t participate frm, and dance team acceptance/permissin agreement frm. These items must be signed by bth student and parent alng with a cpy f the mst recent 12 week prgress reprt r equivalent if applicant is cming frm a nn MVUSD schl. An ABI printut will nt be accepted. There is infrmatin regarding the time cmmitment necessary t be a successful Mesa dance team member, unifrms, summer dance intensive, rehearsals and team requirements. RETURN THE COMPLETED APPLICATION TO MRS. CHIDESTER ON OR BEFORE MONDAY, MAY 15 th OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO AUDITION ON MAY 18 th - NO EXCEPTIONS. The auditin will be held Thursday, May 18 3:45 in the Impact Center Gym. All applicants shuld be prepared t stay until we dismiss everybdy. *Auditins are clsed t all spectatrs and parents. *Each dancer will be evaluated by the same panel f judges. Yur student s persnal feeling f satisfactin and increased invlvement n the schl campus will bring many rewards as being a member f the dance team is cnsidered a leadership psitin n campus. Please discuss the impact this leadership psitin will have, and the changes that will ccur in yur sn/daughter s life shuld they make the team. This invlvement carries with it a great deal f respnsibility. Yur student will be expected t attend afterschl practices, games, pep rallies, evening events, be an exemplary student in the classrm, n the campus, and cntribute t the psitive culture at ur schl. Being a member f the Murrieta Mesa dance team requires a great deal f time, effrt, a lt f hard wrk and persnal sacrifice; but it gives back fun, excitement, self-cnfidence, friendships, incredible persnal rewards, and many ther psitives in a yung persn s life. 4 Dance Team Unifrm Infrmatin Belw is the infrmatin regarding unifrms fr the schl year. The Mesa dance team is a schl spnsred team and n student will be denied the pprtunity t participate in the MMHS dance team prgram based upn the student s purchase f a unifrm. The team unifrm will remain the same as the schl year. All returning team members can use the unifrm. New team members may elect t purchase their wn custm fit unifrm and keep it as a high schl memry. Team members nt purchasing a custm fit unifrm will have a cmparable perfrmance unifrm available t check ut under a cntract t return in the same cnditin as it was at checkut. New team members can als ask t brrw, r purchase, a used unifrm frm a frmer team member. Team members purchasing their wn custm fit unifrm will be paying fr the unifrm in full n the day the unifrm is fit and rdered, unless ther arrangements are made with the Varsity unifrm vendr. 5 Prgram Fundraising/Vluntary Cntributins The budget dllars prvided by the state t the Murrieta Valley Unified Schl District d nt fund the dance team prgram. The fllwing expenses are a few examples f what the fundraising effrts supprt: special cstuming fr perfrmances, prfessinal chregraphy, jewelry, accessries, end f year party, letters, awards, fd, patches, senir gifts, etc Thrugh fundraising and vluntary cntributins we will be able t cver the abve expenses and unexpected needs that will arise during the dance year that are assciated with the dance team prgram and cntinue t ffer these expanded pprtunities. All team members are expected t participate in every fundraising activity which include, but nt limited t Snapraise, dance nights, crprate spnsrships, family dnatins, and any fundraiser added as necessary thrughut the dance year. August Dance Intensive Team dance intensive, presented by the United Spirit Assciatin Dance Prgram, is a vluntary activity in which dance team members may chse t participate. Intensive is an pprtunity t learn new material, the latest in dance chregraphy, receive instructin frm prfessinal dancers, and in general is an awesme team bnding experience. Intensive is nt mandatry, but is highly recmmended fr every dance team member. Nn participatin in intensive des nt affect participatin in dance team perfrmances. Payment fr dancers attending intensive NEED TO BE PAID IN FULL t the Mesa bkkeeper by Friday June, 9th (last day f schl/payment extensins cannt be made, this deadline is firm). USA requires ne check t be sent frm Mesa fr payment in full. Individuals cannt send mney n their wn fr payment t the United Spirit Assciatin. There will be a shrt infrmal meeting n Wednesday, August 2 nd fr all team members and a parent ging t intensive the next day. 7 2.0 GRADE POINT AVERAGE POLICY & DEPOSIT/REFUND POLICY Murrieta Mesa High Schl requires all students wh are a member f the dance team t maintain a 2.0 grade pint average r higher. All dancers n the Mesa Rams dance team MUST maintain a grade pint average. If their grade pint average falls belw a 2.0 in any 6 week grading perid, they will be placed n prbatin, deemed ineligible, and will nt perfrm in any dance team perfrmances until the next 6 week grading perid prgress reprt has been fficially psted. If the grade pint average has nt been brught up by that time the student will be dismissed frm the team.
