1 WORLD SUPERYACHT AWARDS 2017 COMPETITION RULES & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 1. EVENT AUTHORITY The Wrld Superyacht Awards is administered by Bat Internatinal Media, First Flr, Hartfield Rad, Wimbledn, Lndn SW19 3RQ, United Kingdm. 2. NOMINATIONS a. Website. All nminatins fr the Awards are t be made n the Bat Internatinal website b. Qualifying Length. Yachts entered fr the Wrld Superyacht Awards must be f 30 metres verall length (LOA) and abve t qualify. Spars, such as a bwsprit r a bm verhang, are nt t be included when measuring verall length. c. Wh Can Nminate. Any persn is able t nminate a qualifying yacht, cmpany r persn fr any f the awards listed belw, with the limitatin that the persn making that nminatin must be in a psitin t deliver the required dcumentatin (see belw) t the judges by the requested date. Nminatins unsupprted by such dcumentatin will nt be judged. A regularly updated list f nminatins will be displayed n the event website. d. Nminatin Fee. All nminatins in the yacht classes (details in Sectin 6) must be accmpanied by an entry fee f 250 t cver event administratin csts. e. Clsing Date fr Nminatins. Nminatins clse n Wednesday 30 th Nvember 2016, when all requested material must be in the hands f the rganisers. All nminatins will be published n the event website within tw weeks f their receipt. 3. SHORT-LISTING a. A shrt-listing prcess is carried ut t reduce entrant numbers t a pint where the judges are able t thrughly review them during a thrugh judges meeting. b. This first stage f the judging prcess is undertaken by Bat Internatinal Media. c. The shrt-listing meeting fr the 2017 event will take place arund the secnd week f December Entrants will be infrmed shrtly afterwards whether r nt they have been shrtlisted. The shrtlist will be published n the event website within ne week f the date f the judges meeting. Page 1 f 6

2 4. JUDGING PROCESS a. Fllwing the shrt-listing, the finalists are then included in a dssier given t the judges wh will decide the winners during their judges meeting in March The judging panel is verwhelmingly cmprised f superyacht wners. b. With the agreement f the yachts wners, judges will make visits t nminated yachts between the date f the yacht s nminatin and the judges meeting. It is ur aim that every finalist is visited by at least ne judge s that he/she can reprt t the remainder f the jury n issues that are nt readily apparent frm dcuments r phtgraphs. c. At the judges meeting, judges have the right t withhld an award in any categry if, in their view, the entries in that categry display insufficient merit. d. Judges may reallcate any entry t a mre suitable categry shuld a majrity f judges deem this necessary. e. Jury members with a vested interest in any nminated yacht will nt be invlved in judging any yacht in the same categry. f. The judges' decisins are final, and n judge will enter int cnversatin r crrespndence cncerning decisins that have been made. g. Winners will be annunced, and the Awards presented, at the Wrld Superyacht Awards 2017 Gala Evening. 5. PRIZES a. Winners will receive an inscribed Wrld Superyacht Awards Neptune trphy. b. The judges have discretin t make a special award f a Neptune trphy r ffer a Judges Cmmendatin shuld they believe ne is justified. 6. YACHT CLASSES & QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirement is that a yacht nminated fr any award must be ver 30 metres in length. Yachts entered fr the new yacht classes must have been cmpleted and DELIVERED t their wners between the 1st January and 31st December in the year f the cmpetitin (the qualifying year). Fr the Wrld Superyacht Awards 2017 event, these qualifying dates are between 1st January, 2016 and 31st December, a. New Yacht Classes. Yachts may be entered in the classes that are utlined belw. These classes have been established in cnsultatin with yacht builders and naval architects, s that yachts culd be equitably judged against ther vessels f a similar size and type. There are classes fr displacement mtr yachts, semi-displacement (and planing mtr yachts and sailing yachts. This distinctin is made because these varius types f yacht call fr very different design and cnstructin philsphies. b. Refitted and Rebuilt Yachts. A further tw classes are reserved fr yachts that have been given majr refits r have been cmpletely rebuilt and that were finished within the qualifying year. With the agreement f the Chairman, class bundaries may be redefined and classes may be amalgamated depending n the number f entries in thse classes. c. The Yacht classes are: Page 2 f 6

3 Displacement Mtr Yachts These yachts are defined as vessels always displacing their wn weight f water when under pwer at full speed. Grss Tnnage and length are the deciding entry qualificatins in the Displacement classes. Because f this, the yacht s Grss Tnnage as well as length verall must be given in the n-line nminatin frm. It is anticipated that this class will be divided int the fur categries listed belw, but classes may be amalgamated if the number f entries warrants this: Displacement Mtr Yachts f between 1,500 Grss Tns and Abve (Estimated t be between apprximately abve 60 metres LOA). Displacement Mtr Yachts f between 500 Grss Tns and 1,500 Grss Tns (Estimated t be between 50 metres LOA and 59 metres LOA). Displacement Mtr Yachts f belw 500 Grss Tns 40m and Abve Displacement Mtr Yachts f belw 500 Grss Tns 30m t 40m Semi-Displacement r Planing Mtr Yachts These yachts are defined as vessels that displace less than their wn weight f water when under pwer at full speed. The class is divided int the categries listed belw. Shuld further sub-divisins based n size be cnsidered apprpriate by the jury, they will be added. Semi-Displacement r Planing Mtr Yachts 40m and Abve Semi-Displacement r Planing Mtr Yachts 30m t 40m Sailing Yachts These yachts are defined as vessels that are primarily pwered by their sails. They are prvisinally divided int the tw categries listed belw, but the size limits may be adjusted shuld the judges cnsider that a mre equitable cmpetitin will result: Sailing Yachts f 40m and Abve Sailing Yachts f between 30m t 40m Refitted r Rebuilt Yachts This class is pen t yachts, mtr r sail, that have undergne refits r rebuilds and t cmmercial r ther vessels that are cnverted int yachts and re-enter service in the qualifying year. Fr the 2017 event this will require yachts t be cmpleted and returned t their wners fllwing the refit (that may have started in any year) between 1st January, 2016 and 31st December, This categry may be sub-divided int a Refit categry and a Rebuild categry shuld entries warrant this. All entries are made t this single class and the Jury will decide, if apprpriate, the sub-categry int which each yacht falls. A Refit is defined as repairs and mdificatins carried ut t a yacht necessitated by the number f years the yacht has been in service. A Rebuild is defined as majr changes made t a yacht, r a vessel riginally designed fr ther purpses and cnverted int a yacht, fllwing which it is a substantially altered vessel. Page 3 f 6

4 7. REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR YACHT CLASSES. Please read this sectin carefully, as entries that are nt supprted by the fllwing material will nt be judged. a. Mtr Yachts. Required dcuments are: Specificatins list. (2 Pages) A blank specificatins list will be supplied fr cmpletin fllwing the nminatin f the yacht. Please nte that the judges will assume a wrst case if any f the requested specificatins are withheld. It is the respnsibility f the individual making the nminatin t ensure that the supplied specificatins are accurate. Subsequent t the judging prcess, Judges have the discretinary right t strip categry winners f their title shuld any supplied specificatins be fund t be significantly inaccurate. Yacht Prfile and General arrangement plan f all decks. (1-2 pages) A maximum f three (3) A4 pages cntaining: A statement frm the wner detailing his requirements fr the yacht and its anticipated use. A statement frm the naval architect, exterir stylist and interir designers t describe hw they achieved the wner s wishes. A statement frm the builder cncerning the cnstructin and highlighting any elements that it particularly wishes t receive attentin frm the judges. Phtgraphs. Yachts f 60m LOA and abve may submit up t 40 phtgraphs, yachts belw this size may submit up t 30 phtgraphs. Phtgraphs need nt be f prfessinal standard. Ideally, they shuld illustrate the yacht under way, its deck areas, guest interir areas, crew areas, and service & technical areas, including the bridge and engine rm. b. Sailing Yachts. The required dcuments are the same as fr mtr yachts with the added requirement fr a standard plar diagram shwing the yacht s perfrmance in varius wind speeds and directins. c. Refitted / Rebuilt Yachts Specificatin List (2 Pages) as fr apprpriate Mtr r Sailing Yacht classes but shwing befre refit/rebuild and after refit/rebuild specificatins. Yacht Prfile and General Arrangement Plans (1-2 pages), bth pre-refit and pst-refit. A maximum f three (3) A4 pages cntaining: A statement frm the wner explaining his refit/rebuild requirements fr the yacht that wuld make the vessel mre suitable fr its anticipated use. A statement frm the naval architect, exterir stylist and interir designers t describe hw they achieved the wner s wishes and listing the majr upgrades carried ut. A statement frm the builder t highlight any difficulties encuntered in the refit/rebuild, and t mentin thse elements that shuld receive particular attentin frm the judges. Phtgraphs. Yachts may submit up t a ttal f 40 phtgraphs that allw judges t cmpare the pre- and pst-refit cnditin f the yacht. Phtgraphs need nt be f prfessinal standard, but shuld illustrate the yacht under way, deck areas, guest interir areas, crew areas, and service and technical areas, including the bridge and engine rm. Pre-refit phtgraphs shuld be submitted in a separate file frm the pst-refit phtgraphs. Page 4 f 6

5 8. ADDITIONAL AWARDS FOR WHICH NO NOMINATION IS NECESSARY a. Mtr Yacht f the Year. Presented t a class winner in the Mtr Yacht categries that is cnsidered by the judges t be the mst ntable yacht f the qualifying year. N entry is required, r is pssible, ther than by entering the respective Yacht Categry. b. Sailing Yacht f the Year. Presented t a class winner in the Sailing Yacht categries that is cnsidered by the judges t be the mst ntable yacht f the qualifying year. N entry is required, r is pssible, ther than by entering the respective Yacht Categry. c. Explrer Yacht f the Year. This is presented t a yacht in any f the categries (sailing r mtr yacht) that in the judges pinin best fulfils the criteria belw. 9. OTHER AWARDS These are presented n an ccasinal basis at times when the Judges cnsider that an award is apprpriate. a. Vyager s Award. Nminatins fr this award are t be made n the event website. The Vyager s Award is presented t the yacht that, in the pinin f the judges, cmpleted the mst inspiratinal cruise during the Qualifying Year. Cruises may have begun in the year preceding the Qualifying Year. Fr the 2017 Awards, this perid is frm the 1st January, 2015 t 31st December, The wner r a persn nminated by the wner (fr instance the principal f a charter party but NOT a member f the crew) must have been abard fr a significant prprtin f the cruise. Required dcuments are: A brief accunt f the cruise. Its length shuld nt exceed three typewritten A4 pages (apprximately 2,500 wrds). We d understand that many wrld-raming yachts are cntinuusly n the mve, but fr the purpses f this Award we ask yu t select starting and finishing pints that were n yur track between the qualifying dates fr this year s event, namely the 1st January 2015 and the 31st December The text shuld infrm the jury f ntewrthy events and landfalls alng yur rute. One r several charts shwing the track f yur yacht. This shuld be marked up t shw significant stpping places and shuld als indicate yur prgress by shwing dates at suitable intervals alng the track. Phtgraphs taken during the vyage. Please submit up t 50 phtgraphs in.jpg frmat with a file size suitable fr viewing n a cmputer screen (40cm x 20cm at 100dpi 15in x 8in at 100dpi). These will be screened fr the judges and will nt be cpied, printed r distributed t any ther party, althugh a small selectin f pictures frm the winning entry will be used in the Gala Evening Prgramme and prjected n the screen during the Prize Giving. The cpyright fr such pictures will remain with the phtgrapher r anyne wh has purchased such cpyright. Shuld yu require it, fllwing the judging we are happy t prvide a certificate cnfirming that all phtgraphic files submitted have been destryed. Further infrmatin. Yu are invited t submit any further infrmatin that yu wuld like the judges t cnsider. This may include cpies f lg pages, any visitr/passage certificates (such as thse issued at Cape Hrn r ther significant landfalls) r examples f amusing ver-bureaucratic paperwrk r vides describing the vyage in its ttality r shrter explits that yu have undertaken. Yu are als welcme t submit any articles (r a bk) published, any websites where the vyage is described, dcuments shwing any exhibitin that yu have had regarding the vyage r that yu have participated in. The Vyager s Award will be judged nt nly n the vyage but als the way it is described in text, phts and ther media. Page 5 f 6

6 b. The Legacy Award. Presented t an individual wh has made an utstanding cntributin t the superyacht industry ver many years. The Judges will put frth their nminatins prir t the Judges Meeting, where they will then cast their vtes n the nminees. c. Explrer Yacht f the Year. Presented t an explrer yacht either mtr r sail that the judges cnsider t be an utstanding vessel f her type. Judges will be lking fr yachts that are specifically built t either explre specific areas (e.g. ice r rivers) r mve arund substantial distances r are equipped with special explratin equipment (like scuba diving equipment, submarines, tenders fr lng distance explring). 10. ADVICE ON HOW TO MAKE THE BEST IMPRESSION UPON THE JUDGES a. Thrughly read the Cmpetitin Rules and Entry Requirements tgether with the Submissin Requirements fr the categry which yu have entered, and cmply with them exactly. b. Prepare yur dcumentatin accurately and ensure that it des nt exceed the maximum number f pages allwed. c. Any statements required shuld be written specifically t satisfy the specific needs f the Wrld Superyacht Awards, and shuld nt be general press releases. d. Select phtgraphs that will give the judges a cmprehensive impressin f the yacht. These shuld be individual.jpg files with a reslutin f at least 600 pixels, nt a pdf dcument cntaining phtgraphs, as the latter des nt prvide sufficient quality when prjected. D nt submit mre phtgraphs than are requested if yu d this we will nly pass n the crrect number f phtgraphs t the judges, and these may nt be the nes yu might have selected. e. Be timely when submitting yur material. 11. RULE CHANGES. The rganisers reserve the right t make any amendments necessary t ensure a better cmpetitin. Versin Dated: 05/08/2016 Page 6 f 6
