1 STRATFORD GIRLS LACROSSE CLUB POLICY MANUAL The (SGLC) is a cmpetitive girl s lacrsse club with aspiratins t cmpete fr high schl varsity state champtinships. We are a member club f US Lacrsse - the natinal rganizing bdy fr Lacrsse in the United States. In Texas lacrsse is nt a UIL sanctined sprt and, therefre, the SGLC is nt spnsred by Spring Branch Independent Schl District (SBISD), Stratfrd High Schl (SHS) r any ther SBISD Schl. Our teams, hwever, d practice and play at SBISD facilities. The SGLC is a private club. Members must register and try ut annually. Prir membership t SGLC and assignment t a given team (e.g. Varsity) des nt guarantee future membership and/r assignment t the same team. Membership and team assignment is a privilege that must be earned and maintained. The club reserves the right t make cuts if deemed necessary t ensure the rster size is manageable fr the caching staff and ptimized t achieve ur bjectives t play at the highest levels f girl s lacrsse available in Texas. Cuts may als be made due t behavir r attitude issues r lack f cmmitment t and cmpliance with club plicies. Membership Eligibility In additin t a passin fr the sprt f wmen s lacrsse and a cmmitment t uphld the values f the SGLC, there are 2 key eligibility requirements fr membership in the SGLC: US Lacrsse Membership TGHSLL eligibility (High Schl nly) US Lacrsse Membership Active membership in US Lacrsse (USL) is required fr membership t SGLC. Yur US Lacrsse membership will be validated as part f the nline registratin prcess. Caches are als required t maintain membership in USL. TGHSLL Eligibility At the High Schl level, the SGLC is a member f the Texas Girls High Schl Lacrsse League (TGHSLL). The TGHSLL defines club eligibility by schl attendance znes. Girls wh live in the SHS attendance zne but g t sme ther SBISD schl r a private schl are als eligible if the schl they attend des nt have a lacrsse prgram. If a player s schl des have a lacrsse prgram but she prefers t play fr ur club, she will have t be waived by the schl she attends. Attendance Attendance at all practices and cmpetitive events is mandatry and critical t the success f SGLC. Player absences frm practices are disruptive t the develpment f the individual and the team. Cnsistent attendance at practices is nt nly critical fr prgressin f individual skills but als fr the prgressin f team skills and strategies. If players are cnsistently absent frm practices, even fr excused reasns, it will be difficult fr caches t effectively assess and develp the player s skills and 1 f 6

2 integrate them int game plans, therefre, it culd impact pprtunities fr playing time and eligibility fr varsity. SGLC players are encuraged t participate in ther sprts and schl related activities. Players are als expected t make schlwrk a tp pririty. Players are, hwever, respnsible fr managing their time and pririties effectively. Girls playing anther schl sprt that verlaps part f lacrsse seasn are still expected t hnr their cmmitment t lacrsse, even if that means ging t a practice fr bth sprts n the same day. If there are extenuating circumstances, it shuld be discussed in advance f the seasn with the cach. Belw are samples f excused and unexcused absences. The lists are nt intended t be exhaustive but rather t prvide an indicatin f the level f cmmitment that is expected. Frequent absences, whether excused r unexcused, may result in lss f playing time, ineligibility fr the varsity squad r, in extreme cases, dismissal frm the club. Players are respnsible and will be held accuntable fr cmmunicating cnflicts t the cach in a timely manner. Players are required t give the cach apprpriate advance ntice fr all practices and games t which they will be absent, arrive late r leave early. Apprpriate advance ntice fr practices and scrimmages is at least ne hur befre the scheduled start time nt within the hur befre while the cach is in transit r therwise preparing fr practice. Apprpriate advance ntice fr a game is 24 hurs. Apprpriate ntice shuld always include the specific reasn fr the absence. Team Equipment Players will be held persnally respnsible fr all team equipment issued t them. Team equipment will generally include practice jerseys (high schl), game jerseys and skirts, back pack (high schl), and galie gear. Players are respnsible fr cleaning practice and game unifrms regularly. Team issued equipment shuld nt be altered withut the explicit permissin f a cach - this includes remval f tags frm unifrms. Remember that smene else culd be using yur equipment after yur career at SGLC cmes t an end. Team equipment issued t players MUST BE TURNED IN at the cnclusin f each seasn s that it can be inventried and assessed. Equipment must be CLEAN and in gd cnditin when turned in r the player will be expected t pay t have it cleaned, repaired and/r replaced as apprpriate. Player Equipment All players (including galies) are expected t purchase and maintain the fllwing equipment fr the duratin f the lacrsse seasn. 2 f 6

3 Wmen s lacrsse gggles Muth guard Wmen's Lacrsse Stick Cleats (highly recmmended fr safety and ptimal perfrmance) All equipment must be legal per the USL rules fr Wmen's Lacrsse in effect at the time. Players are required t pssess, wear and use this equipment at every practice and every cmpetitive event. Players withut required equipment will be subject t disciplinary actin. The fllwing additinal cld weather equipment is highly recmmended: Black base undergarments fr cld weather layering Head band r beanie fr warmth Athletic glves fr warmth Player Grievances Players with grievances relative t their SGLC experience, whether with the caches r ther players, are expected t take the initiative fr mature and timely reslutin f thse issues s they d nt becme a distractin t themselves, the caches r the ther players. Practice time is nt fr grievance reslutin -- players must schedule time with caches t discuss grievances. Parent cnferences with caches regarding player grievances will nt be granted until the player has met with the caches. Grades N lacrsse player may participate if they are failing any subject fr the prir six weeks grading perid. Simply put, NO PASS-NO PLAY. Substance Use/Abuse The fllwing rules apply t all athletes at all times: N tbacc N drinking f alchlic beverages N cntrlled substance r dangerus drug as defined by law. N athlete shuld pssess, use, transmit, attempt t pssess, r be under the influence f any f the substances named abve n r ff schl premises. This applies t all athletes and/r prspective athletes at all times. The Directr f the SGLC will maintain exclusive decisin-making authrity ver all SGLC activities and peratins including, but nt limited t, caching appintments, player evaluatin and assignment, league placements, public relatins, finances, and disciplinary actin related t player and/r family member cnduct. Cde f Cnduct Membership in requires that all players, caches, vlunteers, parents and spectatrs abide by a Cde f Cnduct (the Cde) that embdies basic cmmn sense principles, elements f high mral character and the cncept f gd sprtsmanship, cnsideratin f thers, prmtin f gd health and safety practices and cnveyance f a psitive image f SGLC, its caches, players, club vlunteers and parents. Individuals participating in r affiliated with SGLC that fail t abide by the Cde are subject t ptential disqualificatin frm SGLC events and pssible dismissal frm the Club. 4 THE CODE OF CONDUCT Players, caches, club vlunteers, parents and all thse affiliated with SGLC shall cnduct themselves at all times and in all things pertaining t SGLC n and ff the field f cmpetitin in a manner that Hnrs the Game and demnstrates respect and the characteristics f gd sprtsmanship and prmtin f gd health practices and safety t themselves and ther players, caches, parent vlunteers, fficials and spectatrs. In becming a member f SGLC, an individual assumes certain bligatins and respnsibilities t the game f wmen s lacrsse and SGLC. The essential elements in this Cde f Cnduct are HONESTY, INTEGRITY, GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, HEALTH AND SAFETY. Thse wh cnduct themselves in a manner that reflects these elements will bring credit t the sprt f wmen s lacrsse, themselves and SGLC. Only thrugh such cnduct can SGLC develp, earn and maintain a psitive image and make its full cntributin t yuth sprts. SGLC supprts and expects the fllwing behavirs fr thse participating r invlved in any way with SGLC: The cncepts f sprtsmanship and fair play are essential t the game f wmen s lacrsse, and must be taught, develped and adhered t during practices, games and all SGLC affiliated events and activities. The emphasis n winning shall nt be placed abve the value f gd sprtsmanship, fair play, player health r the skills f the game. Dergatry cmments tward thers are unacceptable, including cmments made thrugh the use f any type f electrnic device (e.g., cmputers, cell phnes, vide cameras, audi recrders), text messaging, r scial media platfrms (e.g., Facebk, Twitter, MySpace). Only psitive cmments and reinfrcement tward all players, caches, vlunteers, referees, fficials and spectatrs shall be practiced by all members f SGLC including its caches and vlunteer participants. It shuld be generally remembered that if yu can t say smething psitive and cnstructive, say nthing at all and criticism, nce made, can never be retracted. The health, safety and welfare f players and participants are f primary imprtance t all members f SGLC at all times. SGLC caches and vlunteers must always be aware f the tremendus influence they have n the student athlete participants at SGLC. They shall maintain the highest character in all things related t SGLC and be psitive rle mdels in dealing with SGLC players, fficials, administratrs, parents and event spectatrs. Anyne affiliated with SGLC shall nt permit anyne t maliciusly criticize, badger, harass, r threaten an fficial. Knwledge f the Rules f Wmen s Lacrsse must be respected and adhered t by all wh participate in the game f wmen s lacrsse, bth in the letter and the spirit f the game. Attempts t manipulate rules in an effrt t take unfair advantage f an ppnent, r t teach deliberate unsprtsmanlike cnduct, is cnsidered unacceptable cnduct. Eligibility requirements, such as age and previus participatin in wmen s lacrsse, must be fllwed. They have been established t encurage and maximize participatin, as well as prmte safety. SGLC caches shall have the final wrd as t the psitin(s), playing time, general participatin level and disciplinary matters pursuant t all student athlete members f SGLC. 4 f 6

5 Practice Rules Practice starts and ends at the scheduled time. Players must wear gggles and muth guards at all times unless specifically given permissin by caches t remve them. Never ask, D we need ur sticks? Practice jersey must be wrn at every practice and with apprpriate undergarments. All players sprint while transitining between drills and water breaks. Maintain fcus even when standing in line waiting yur turn. D nt talk when a cach is talking. The practice field is a safe zne fr learning lacrsse at all levels. Plan t arrive at least 10 minutes early t be prepared. Expect t leave practice n earlier than the scheduled end time. Ending practice early nce des nt bligate the caches t d it again. If practice times are ging t be amended permanently, the calendar n the website will be updated and the team will be ntified. Safety gear is never ptinal r at the discretin f players. Prper precautins are imprtant t ensure safety n the field at all times. Since yu play like yu practice, it is imprtant t learn during practice hw t see with gggles n and hw t talk and run with a muth guard in place. As a lacrsse player, a stick is an extensin f yur arm. Yu are always required t carry it unless therwise instructed. Many drills require breaking grups int green and white teams and players wh dn t have their jersey limit the caches ability t execute their practice plan and may cause cnfusin by ther players. Apprpriate undergarments enable the player t reverse the practice jersey n the practice field quickly and with mdesty in the presence f male caches and any ther spectatrs. In the event f cld weather, players are expected t wear the practice jersey ON TOP OF any warmth layers. Practice time is limited s hustling ensures we are maximizing the time we have n prductive activities. Lacrsse requires a high level f cnditining and a always hustling means we are als always cnditining. Even when yu are ff ball r waiting in line yu shuld be fcused n the actin and waiting fr yur pprtunity t cntribute. Drills will run smthly if every player is ready t g when it is her turn. Safety is anther purpse fr this rule. If a player misses the ball and yu are nt paying attentin, yu will nt be able t avid getting hit r injured. It is imprtant that yu have fun and get t knw yur teammates, hwever, when a cach is explaining a drill r cncept r answering a questin everyne shuld be listening. While yu may understand what the cach is saying, the girl next t yu may nt. If yu wish t make cmments, ask questins r therwise add t the discussin, please raise yur stick until recgnized. Practice is the time when everyne n the field shuld be pushing themselves t imprve. If a drill is t easy, yu aren t pushing yurself t imprve. Nbdy n this team shuld be afraid t push themselves and their abilities due t fear f failure r embarrassment. Extra effrt is t be cmmended, respected, and encuraged n any SGLC team. Any dergatry cmments r behavirs that threaten this safe zne and inhibit effrt and imprvement will nt be tlerated. 5 f 6

I understand that the plays in a highly cmpetitive league and equal playing time is nt guaranteed. If I am absent, arrive late r leave early fr any unexcused reasn frm a mandatry practice r game, I understand that I am subject t disciplinary measures which may include lss f playing time. It is my respnsibility t give my cach adequate ntice that I will be absent, late r leaving early. Adequate ntice shuld be given at least 1 hur befre a mandatry practice r scrimmage and at least 24 hurs befre a game. I have a respnsibility fr ensuring that I practice prductively by being n time and prepared, pushing myself t imprve and prviding a supprtive safe zne t allw my teammates t push themselves and imprve. It is my respnsibility t arrive early enugh t practice t ensure I am ready t start practice at the scheduled time. I understand that being n time fr practice means I am suited up with practice apprpriate and required gear and n the practice field at the scheduled start time ready t fllw instructins prvided by caches r captains. If I repeatedly exhibit actins r behavir that g against the wrd r intent f the plicy, exhibit persistent r significant lack f cmmitment t my team r persistent lack f respect fr ther club members, caches, fficials, ppsing teams, etc. I can be dismissed frm the club and required t return club issued equipment.
