2 This reprt prvides an update n wrk undertaken by BADMINTON England in the Cunty f Hertfrdshire fr the perid March t June Feedback n the cntent f this update is welcme and shuld be directed, tgether with any queries, t the Reginal Delivery Manager fr yur regin. Intrductin: As many f yu will be aware, we are gearing up fr ur Summer f Badmintn campaign. The aim is t build n the pprtunities presented this summer by the Cmmnwealth Games in Glasgw, the Wrld Champinships and the launch f the Natinal Badmintn League t prvide mre ways in which everyne can play Badmintn thrugh the summer. Our aims are t: Achieve an impact n the Active Peple survey f 10,000 mre peple playing Badmintn every week Enable peple t play mre ften by helping them find pprtunities t play in the traditinal clse seasn Raise badmintn s prfile thrugh an eye catching marketing campaign. The pprtunities being develped with the supprt f the Badmintn cmmunity include: 400 Essentials curses giving peple the chance t learn t play New SmashUp! sessins at 317 sites acrss satellite clubs, universities, leisure centres, village halls and cmmunity centres New Battle City leagues that will allw 4,000 players t challenge each ther n the nline platfrm Wrkplace leagues with lcal businesses setting up the chance fr wrk clleagues t challenge each ther thrugh the Battle Badmintn platfrm Clubs and cunty assciatins running activity thrugh the summer t cater fr their existing and new members. The idea behind this range f activity is t supprt existing activity by prviding mre pprtunities during the ff seasn. We will als be undertaking a majr drive during this campaign t signpst any players playing during the summer int yur clubs and leagues, thereby supprting the recruitment f new members and players fr these. Everyne acrss the whle BADMINTON England rganisatin has identified a part they can play in delivering the Summer f Badmintn and I very much hpe that the badmintn cmmunity is als able t get behind this campaign and get mre peple playing. I hpe yu agree that the Summer f Badmintn presents an exciting pprtunity fr ur sprt. Natinal Update Natinal prgress n the prgrammes and wrk areas set ut belw can be fund in the mnthly Chief Executive s update. Pririties fr the Reginal Delivery Team in the past three mnths have been: Securing sign ups frm leisure peratrs t deliver the Play Badmintn framewrk. Implementatin f Battle Badmintn. Wrking with Cmmunity Badmintn Netwrks t establish apprpriate develpment/delivery plans and invest int thse plans. Encuraging schls t sign up fr the Smash Up prgramme and training activatrs t deliver Smash Up sessins in lcal schls. Page 2 f 6

3 Staffing The current team fr the Hertfrdshire regin cnsists f: Reginal Delivery Manager Michael Nyark Partnership Manager (East) Rhiannn Smith Participatin Manager (East) James Craig Wrkfrce Officer Rb Flack Cmmunity Badmintn Netwrks (CBNS) There are 4 CBNs in the Cunty Herts West, Welwyn Hatfield, Nrth Herts and East Herts. East Herts This CBN is nw set up with a number f clubs frming the netwrk. The CBN has met and decided t prgress badmintn withut Badmintn England CBN funding. The CBN will be fcussing n sustainability f existing activity and jining activity tgether. Herts West The netwrk have ppulated all activity that is in existence in the area n the Player Pathway map. They are currently putting tgether a develpment plan t then submit t Badmintn England fr investment. Investment likely t be made June r September Nrth Herts Rhiannn has ffered her supprt t Bb Green t help and supprt the prductin f a develpment plan. She has made links with Stevenage Cuncil wh have ffered t help write the develpment plan. Welwyn Hatfield Welwyn Hatfield CBN has received 1250 investment s far. The CBN is receiving extra investment frm Badmintn England as part f the Summer f Badmintn campaign. In return fr this extra investment they have rganised 3 Essential curses which will be running at University f Hertfrdshire, Gsling Sprts Centre and Hatfield Leisure Centre. Play Badmintn Play Badmintn 3 mre Play Badmintn agreements have been signed up since last update and these are: Hatfield Leisure Centre Harpenden Leisure Centre Tiddenft Leisure Centre The previus centres that wrk cntinues t happen in are: Gsling Sprts Park, Birchwd Leisure Centre, Westminster Ldge, Watfrd Central, Watfrd Wdside, Sprtspace Tring, Sprtspace Berkhampstead and Sprtpace Hemel. 4 Battle Badmintn There are currently ver 3,300 peple signed up the Battle Badmintn prgramme natinally and mre infrmatin can be fund at In Hertfrdshire there has been a launch event f the prgramme within the Sprtspace centres and then the three Everyneactive centres are cntinuing t push battle badmintn t custmers. Natinally Everyneactive accunt fr mre that 10% f all peple signed up t battle badmintn Yung Peple 10 schls in the Cunty have signed up t deliver Smash Up. The fllwing schls have signed up: Within the Cunty, 1 university has a 2 HE fficer in place fr 2013/14: University f Hertfrdshire Perfrmance centres The annual Perfrmance Centre Develpment Cnference tk place at the Natinal Badmintn Centre, Miltn Keynes n Friday 30th May & Saturday 31st May Perfrmance Centre Head Caches and natinal age grup caches were invited t attend the tw days. The cnference included n curt practical sessins led by Head Cach Jakb Hi including players frm the senir squads, questin and answer sessins with GB Natinal Caches and Strength and Cnditining wrkshps delivered by the EIS. Center Parcs Natinal Schls Champinships The Natinal finals fr this year s Center Parcs Natinal Schl Champinships tk place at Sherwd Frest Center Parcs n the 10 th & 11 th May The full results will be sent alng with this update but the fllwing prvides a summary f the winners: Key Stage 3 Bys: Burnemuth Cllegiate Key Stage 3 Girls: Aylesbury High Schl Key Stage 4 Bys: Denbigh Schl Key Stage 4 Girls: Uptn by Chester Badmintn England are currently lking fr willing grups r individuals t rganise and run the Cunty and Reginal runds f the Center Parcs Natinal Schls Champinships in 2014/15. We wuld like t ensure that ur badmintn cmmunity (CBA s, CBN s, PCs etc) have been given the pprtunity t apply fr the financial investment and be part f securing a legacy fr this fantastic cmpetitin. Tny Marm the Event Manager fr Hertfrdshire Schl Games has been successful in his applicatin t run the 2014/15 Hertfrdshire Cunty Rund f Center Parcs Natinal Schls Champinships. The Reginal Rund will be run by Essex Badmintn Assciatin and Sufflk Badmintn Assciatin. Page 4 f 6

5 Clubs Accredited Premier Clubs (Clubmark) Recently BADMINTON England updated the prcesses that clubs undertake t becme accredited Premier Clubs (Clubmark). As a result clubs can nw apply and wrk twards accreditatin nline. 6 Badmintn England Yung Cach Develpment Prgramme BADMINTON England are launching their first Yung Cach Develpment Prgramme in rder t harness & develp the talent f yung caches arund the cuntry. The pprtunity will be ffered t 16 yung caches that meet the fllwing criteria: Are aged n 1 st August 2014 Hld a UKCC r 2 qualificatin (r are wrking twards) Are caching n a weekly basis within a PC/Cunty set up (r equivalent) Hw t apply: PCs and Cunties are invited t nminate thse candidates that meet the criteria and feel wuld benefit frm this scheme. These are t be sent t caching@badmintnengland.c.uk by 15 th August 2014 with successful applicants being annunced by 31 st August. If yu wuld like an applicatin frm, please cntact caching@badmintnengland.c.uk Updates Natinal Badmintn League The Player s auctin fr the first ever Natinal Badmintn League tk place last week with the six franchise teams battling it ut t sign the tp players in the cuntry. The teams will play each ther n mnthly match nights t be bradcast live n Sky Sprts and streamed arund the wrld frm 6 Octber, There will then be ne day play ff final featuring the tp fur teams in June Further details can be fund at Summer f Badmintn Activity There will be a Battle City League ran ver the summer in the Watfrd area. Claire Chambers, Reginal Activities Manager fr Everyne Active is the lead advcate fr Battle. The main rle f the advcate is t recruit individuals t be part f the league.
