GIANTS ACQUIRE DE AZA: The Giants acquired OF Alejandro De Aza (pronounced ahluh-hahn-droh dee AH-zuh) from the Red Sox last night in exchange for minor league LHP Luis Ysla...De Aza, an eight-year Major League veteran, turned around a slow start upon his move to the Red Sox, batting.292 over 178 plate appearances...the 31-year-old has now changed teams via trade for the second time this summer and for the third time in the last two seasons...de Aza will wear uniform number 45 for the Giants. IN THE STANDINGS: The Giants enter tonight's game 4.5 games behind the first-place Dodgers in the NL West and 5.5 games behind the Cubs for the second wild-card spot...this is the Giants' largest deficit since also being 4.5 games on July 12 as the team entered the All- Star break...the Giants have never fallen more than 6.0 games back of first place this season. TONIGHT'S STARTER: LHP Madison Bumgarner (16-6, 2.97) finished the month of August with a 5-0 record, a 1.43 ERA (6er, 37.2ip) and 53 strikeouts in five starts...according to Elias, Bumgarner became one of just three Giants pitchers with a record of 5-0 or better and at least 50 strikeouts in a calendar month...jason Schmidt went 5-0 with 54 strikeouts in May 2004 (1.53 ERA) and Juan Marichal went 6-0 with 60 strikeouts in Sept (2.10 ERA). MORE ON MADISON: Bumgarner, who enters tonight's game with the second-most wins of any NL pitcher with 16, will be seeking to win six consecutive starts for the first time in his career...he's also just two wins shy of matching his career-high in a season (18 in 2014). ROAD WOES: The Giants are 0-1 so far on this 10-game, three-city road trip that also includes stops in Colorado (four games) and Arizona (three games)...the Giants are four games under.500 on the road (31-35) and have lost six of their last nine road series...sf has lost 10 of their last 12 road contests, and beginning June 21, have gone just away from AT&T Park. ON THE FARM: The Dominican Summer League Giants (53-19 regular season record) won the DSL Championship yesterday, sweeping the DSL Rangers three games-to-none in the best-of-five Championship Series. WITH THE GLOVES: The Giants have committed just one error in their past 15 games (no errors in their last six contests) and have made just 59 miscues overall this season, the thirdfewest in the Majors (Orioles have 54, Dodgers have made 55). BYRD IS THE WORD: OF Marlon Byrd drove in three runs last night and now has 14 RBI in his last five games...in fact, he's driven in 14 of the Giants' last 23 runs...since being acquired by the Reds, Byrd has batted.286 (12x42) with three HRs and 17 RBI in 10 games in a Giants uniform.
